So very sad. I just finished reading his book a few days ago. He had worked so hard to overcome his addictions but they had taken a real toll on his body. Such a loss.

I am very devastated. I watch Friends every single day. My husband and I were talking about him just last night how he really made us laugh the most. Rest In Peace Matthew.

I think it will end up being a heart attack. The article said he had come from pickle ball. Maybe his heart was already weakened. 54 too young. A seemingly healthy 44 year old teacher/colleague just had a heart attack at home a couple weeks ago. It was a rough few days in the icu but last I heard he should make it

I canāt tell you how many times I have listened to his book on Audible. The book is so honest and raw. He said that when he dies - people will be shocked, but, no one will be surprised. He forgot that part that we will be devastated. RIP Matty. š¤

Various folks on Twitter are already taking this occasion to blame the Covid vaccine for his death. I swear people are ghouls.

He brought me a lot of laughs back in the day. I'm sad that he didn't have longer to find the happiness he wanted. May he rest in peace.

This is so very sad. He is way too young, and I was hoping to see him in another TV show or movie one day. Various folks on Twitter are already taking this occasion to blame the Covid vaccine for his death. I swear people are ghouls. Oh yeah, the good old "hash tag died suddenly." It happens pretty much every single time someone well known dies. They really are ghouls. A seemingly healthy 44 year old teacher/colleague just had a heart attack at home a couple weeks ago. It was a rough few days in the icu but last I heard he should make it I worked with a guy who was super fit, and did a lot of running. When he was in his early 40s, he was out for a run, and had a heart attack (caused by an undiagnosed heart condition). He was in a coma for months, and when he came out of it he had an acquired brain injury. He couldn't talk properly and was unable to work again. He eventually died from pneumonia a few years later. So sad.

This makes my heart hurt. I feel like I knew him - goofy, funny Chandler Bing. I know that's not really who he was, but I am feeling like I just lost a friend. Wishing you eternal peace, Matthew.

So sad. This happened to my cousin. Super fit, undiagnosed heart condition. Sitting on Hampton Beach, massive widow maker heart attack. Was there for a while before someone (he was there alone) noticed he hadnāt moved in a while. Small comfort he was at his happy place. He was 47.

Someone posted his last tweet and it was about warm water swirling or something like that. So sad. He had so many demons. That Instagram was posted 6 days ago. (Now 7 I suppose.)

This one hit me hard, but I have had 2 months full of a lot of loss in my life.
Everything I had read about him lately, including his book, talked about how he had been clean for a bit of time now. I would be really sad to hear that he had relapsed. But as others have said I'm guessing it was some other medical event, heart attack or he had a history of gastrointestinal issues that had almost killed him before.
And you would be amazed how many people have asked me in the last month if I thought my husband's death, or the other deaths in my life, are related to the covid vaccines. People can be so insensitive.

From the article - Our sources say he was found in a jacuzzi at the home ... and we're told there were no drugs found at the scene. We're also told there is no foul play involved. The passage you quoted also says nothing about alcohol. Where in the TMZ article was anything stated about alcohol? sorry, that was MY thought, no drugs, but maybe alcohol. I should have been more clear.

This one bites. Hard!! I watch Friends just about every night going to bed. My 19 yo daughter binged on Friends several years ago and she loves the show. She texted me last night in shock.
My first thought was I know he's had addiction issues so I hope he hadn't relapsed. As I read the details (what little there were), I began to think cardiac event. I know the years of abuse on his body had to have had an impact on his heart. The fact that he did 2 hrs of pickle ball just before, leads me to think he had a heart attack and that's possibly how he drowned.
RIP Matthew Perry aka Chandler Bing!

The timing of his death is eerie -- it was just a year ago his book came out and there is an interview done with him about how he wants people to remember him (and its NOT for his character on Friends).

I also just read his book not that long ago. He really went through so much - I feel for his parents, he was so sad about them when he had his previous medical issues.

I was just going to mention the same thing... I just read a quote today in which he said something along the lines of, "When I die, people will remember me for Friends, but I wish they'd remember me for the ways I tried to help others." He had built a halfway house for recovering addicts and worked to help others struggling, if I got the story straight. I'm sad about his death too. Very sad.
