Coffee? Books? Boutique? Nails?
What kind of shop would you open if your fairy godparent waved their wand?
I’ve always dreamed of a coffee shop and baking muffins. I suspect I’ve had too much Hallmark…

I would like a craft store of some sort. Yarn, with a space for classes and people to sit and knit/crochet. Maybe a small attached cafe, or be located near a cafe I could 'partner' with.

I have dreamed this all out. It would be called the Spin A Yarn Cafe. I would sell yarn and I would also have a spot where people could sit and drink coffee or tea and work on their crafts.

Another for a craft cafe. I would want to own it but really my dream would be to actually have one available to enjoy. I would love to bring some crafting stuff and sit and drink coffee and chat with other crafters, or just sit alone and listen to my stuff on my ear pods.

Oh this is a great idea. Amazing three people thought of something similar. I would absolutely spend time at a place like that.

Most of us probably wish something like this existed in our communities. Like KelleeM I would be there constantly. Most local coffee shops here don't have adequate lighting and comfortable seating to make something like this happen.

I have dreamed of opening a little bookstore, and more specifically, an English language bookstore somewhere tropical. Or a combo quilt shop bookstore. I’ve even browsed bookstores for sale online. I’m just not quite ready to give up my day job.

jeremysgirl - There’s such a place very close to where I live. It featured on a program recently that helps small businesses maximise their potential. I haven’t been but it’s in popular I gather. Personally I preferred it when the premises was a pub 🤷🏻♀️ Sacrilege I know 😬 What would I do…well before I had arthritic toe joints it would have been shoes but I’m not sure now 🫤

Something to combine my favorite things: quilts, cats, and books.
A place that had space to work on quilts and a cozy area where you could curl up near a fire with a good book.
And lots of snuggly cats to curl up on laps while reading and to "test nap" the quilts. None of my quilts are ready until my cats have slept on them and given it their "nap of approval".
Oh, and there would also have to be baked goods/baking classes because while I am not ready for the tent, I do love some baking.

I would love to have a little gift shop. We no longer have brick and mortar Hallmark stores around here. As a child I always dreamed of owning one combined with a coffee shop.

Your dream shop is right here in my small town. They have classes, have knit and crochet night, a knitting Saturday, a charity knitting night and once a month they have a Finish Up Friday when you can BYOB if you wish, have a great time and get those projects done.

Book store that carried journaling supplies with a resident cat and an attached cafe. Also with an area large enough for patrons to settle in for awhile and places to meet for book club or knitting club or whatever.

Not exactly what you describe but have you seen something like this? cat cafe uk Their mission statement explains what they do. I'd never heard of such a thing until my son went to one. Some people know I do have my own shop, selling mainly candy and ice cream. The bizarre thing is, that as a 14 year old school girl, I had a Saturday job in Woolworths on their candy counter when they had counters with assistants standing in the middle of them to serve customers. I never thought that 50 odd years later I would be back doing a similar thing. Is it my dream shop? Probably not. I think I'd like somewhere larger so I could have a proper ice cream parlour or a lovely tea shop with fresh cakes every day.

Been there, done that. Never again. ETA: I still sometimes have nightmares that I’m there before or after hours and people are banging on the door to get in. Or I’m having a closing sale and the line of people waiting to check out is endless. 😱😱😱

Used book store with coffee and tea (good tea!) all day and wine after 5. A resident cat would be nice. The little town where I went to grad school had something similar to this and it was wonderful.

I don't watch Hallmark movies. I would sell it and visit it. Having your own store is so much work. Just being there when it is open is only half the work. Couldn't do it.

Anything child friendly that opens before 10 am and allows you to bring your amazon returns. And serves coffee. Lots of coffee.

Nope. Wouldn’t want the headache of running a business and dealing every day with the general public. But I sure would visit (and BE the general public!) any of the above-mentioned dream shops!

A gathering place. A combination Friends tv show type coffee-tea shop and a bar. Lots of areas, nooks, alcoves, a bigger area that is roped off or pony wall (for High School reunions, showers, Birthdays, etc...). Lots of seating (couches, bistro tables, oversized chairs, benches, etc...). An outdoor patio area. Things to do (photo area with props, cornhole, billiards, etc..). The music on a lower volume....so everyone can hear each other. A dance floor area. If there is a band, musician or karaoke, it's starts at 7:00pm.....NOT 9:00pm-10:00pm.
Basically a gathering place for people, that is within the parameters of "normal hours" not late night (we are meeting up >> at 9:00pm or 10:00pm) and not nightclub hours.
Although I am a night owl (bedtime at 1:00am+), when going out socially....I prefer to be home and in my pajamas by 10:00pm-11:00pm......NOT meet us at the bar at 9:00pm or 10:00pm. When going out socially....I prefer a 6:30pm -7:00pm start time.

Or I’m having a closing sale and the line of people waiting to check out is endless. 😱😱😱 Same. I opened my dream home decor store (think Magnolia market, in their early days, with some brand new items but also vintage/antique stuff). When it was good, it was good. But man. When it wasn't, it was a nightmare. Sure, part of why it was a nightmare was because I was located in an old historic building with bare bones heating/cooling. But the majority of the nightmare came from customers who demanded to know where I got 'xyz' and demanding we stay open past our posted hours or open early so they could browse without other people being in the store and knowing what they bought. *eyeroll* Never again.

A friend of mine used to own a yarn shop called Knit This, Purl That! in my old town. She sold it to another woman I know but I just Googled it and she moved it to DS's town.

I'm in the group of would rather visit one than own one. Lol. So many that are described sound like lovely places where I would enjoy spending my time.
What I would like to do is own a space where I can cook in a fabulous kitchen and have one huge round table that seats 16-18 people. I'd want to host meals periodically to gather interesting people for great food and stimulating conversation. You'd have to get on the email list and then the first set number that RSVP each time become the customers for that event. So not really open to the general public but I'd want to gather that email list from various and sundry places to get an eclectic mix of people. The menu is whatever I decide it is. Eat it or not but don't tell me all about what you don't care for or won't eat - anyone doing that gets blackballed from the email list! I guess basically I'd want to elevate hosting regular dinner parties into more of a business venture.
I would have to have that magical money though because I'll probably be very flighty about it. Maybe three dinners this month, a lunch and a dinner next month, and then I might take a whole month off. Not really a sustainable business model!
