Hi everyone! Another pretty cold day here ... minus 10 Celsius ... yay! I'm waiting for a girl to come over to pick up three pair of boots that she bought from me ... I love FB Marketplace! My feet have grown an entire size over the past year ... so weird! Today, instead of breakfast at Denny's, my mum and I are meeting Molly there for lunch ... but Molly needs to go to the Apple store first to have her phone looked at because she spilled apple(!) juice on it and now the power button is sticking ... I hope they can fix it ... Then Molly is going to my mum's place to help her pack ... I got a bunch of boxes to give them so they should be able to get a lot done! OK, the update with my job: Basically, no one is budging. They are expecting me to return to that horrendous position in a month. I am beyond stressed out. My union rep is not helping. His best advice is to go on long term disability ... I cannot live on 70% of my wages ... I am single and have a mortgage and a new car I will speak to him again tomorrow and come up with something ... I don't know what ... sigh! Moving on! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... it's early but I thought I would give my American friends a little tip Can you even imagine? What is even in the middle?! Hot dogs? Ugh! No idea what dinner will be ... my Hello Fresh Box gets delivered today so we'll see what is in that! Thinking of you at this time jeremysgirl! Hope your dh is still doing well taylortroop! Hope your Dad is still doing well Delta Dawn! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a relaxing Sunday everybody!

Normal Sunday here. We were awake a bit early, as we changed our clocks back here last night. DH did his regular Sunday breakfast bakery run and then we went to church. Earlier this year, a new priest joined our community. He is in his 80’s and has just retired after teaching at Yale for many, many years. He is a really lovely old man, but recently it is becoming clear that he is ageing rapidly, possibly dementia related. He forgets what language he is using to say Mass - one week, he switched from English to German after the introduction - and he has difficulty remembering things like where to stand at times. It is so sad to see this happening.
After lunch, I went for a walk and DH is getting ready for the new work week. Usually, he’d go into the office for a bit after being away for so long, but the new office opens tomorrow and he doesn’t yet have an entry card. I have also been knitting - just one sleeve to goon Sophia’s new sweater. I need to think what I am going to knit next - probably a sweater for me, as I won’t have one in progress.
Dinner tonight will be chicken in a creamy mushroom and white wine sauce, with noodles. DH is cooking, as usual on the weekend.

Dinner was going to be roasted lamb, on the grill. However given that it is now pouring out that plan will be moved to the oven...roasted lamb with rosemary and garlic, roasted potato and carrots to go with.
DH and I just moved all the furniture from the den to the kitchen , and rolled the 9x12 carpet up, Said carpet will be delivered to the "Clean Team" tomorrow where they will clean that sucker...It is so over due. I have cleaned it several times with my carpet cleaner...however it is in dire need of a professional cleaning. It is a bother to do all that moving, however We save 30% doing the delivery and pick up ourselves.

sueg , that's very sad to hear about your priest. He must have been a brilliant man. leannec , ods told me that he is allowed to teach one class outside of his credentialed subjects. That doesn't make any sense to either of us. He was a history major. Would you want him to teach your kid's chemistry class? It still makes me SMH that this is happening. Might you get an employment lawyer involved?
I baked my cake in the early evening and I'll frost it this am. Dh tried a bite from the edge and said that it's very light and tasty. Other than that, it's a puzzle while dh watches football. I'm really tired for some reason. Dinner will be oyako donburi that I didn't make the other night. Enjoy your today, my tribe.

If I have to I will go in for a few days and then take another leave of absence ... I am not qualified to teach these subjects ... they believe that just because I am a long time (over 20 years) teacher I should be able to do it ... WTH???

Hey all. Dragging today as I slept terribly, insomnia is the worst! We're supposed to go out to dinner tonight, but I feel more like takeout right now - hopefully I'll perk up.

Just got back from our walk ~ nice, brisk weather. We loved looking at all the Halloween decorations. There seems to be more creepy clowns this year. Dinner will be chicken noodle soup.

The cold wet crappy weather has arrived and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better moving forward.
DH is having a good day, probably directly related to the fact that he finally had a good sleep last night. As per the recommendation from the hospital since he was exposed to Covid in his room, he did another test today. Thankfully he is negative. I can’t imagine him having a Covid cough right now!
I made a large pan of lasagna a couple of months ago in anticipation of his surgery. I took it out of the freezer yesterday so tonight's supper will be lasagna and salad. Easy peasey.

Happy Sunday!
Rainy and cold day here. I’m hoping it will stop raining this afternoon so I can get a walk in. I am not a cold weather person so it’s hard for me to mentally prepare myself for outdoor walks now. Time to get back to the gym and treadmill.
DGD’s spent the night. We lost power around 8pm so the youngest started telling spooky stories. She has quite the imagination. They have already left so I am doing some cleaning and laundry.
Dinner is chili.

sueg , that's very sad to hear about your priest. He must have been a brilliant man. Oh, he was, and still is in many ways, just not his memory. He was a professor of Islamic Studies and Arabic is just one of many languages he speaks and reads. we are a very multicultural community - our Mass is in English, but we have people from all over the world - numerous European countries, as well as Africa and Asia - and he will speak to us i our native languages, switching easily between them. He also gives very interesting sermons. I guess he has been preaching for so long that the words are just there in his head.

leannec I'm sorry that it has come to this. If you go back to work for a few days and then go on leave again do you get full pay? And for how long? sueg that's so sad about your priest. I hope the diocese will take care of him I have someone hopefully coming to buy my riding lawn mower today. He better bring a friend to help lift it into his truck! Yesterday I went to starbucks on my way home, drive thru, and ordered my usual venti nonfat chai latte. When I got half way home I took a sip of it, and realized it was green. Matcha - gross!!! So today I went back after a walmart run for my free replacement drink, and they threw in a free pastry too.

it is a major pain in the ass, but I guess do what you have to do. But then that brings up the question of what will happen next year. Look for a new position? Because clearly this principal is not willing to work with you. But will she bad mouth you to the other schools?

Hi friends!
We (well, mostly DH) got an early start today and our dinner for the week (vegetable beef stew) is already made for the week.
We actually went to look at a house we saw on realtor and we both loved it -- the roof, windows, and siding are all less than a year old; the appliances except washer and dryer are all so new they still have the informational stickers in/on them - and they all come with the house. We might put in an offer... 😳😬
I think dinner tonight will be salmon, rice, and broccoli. We considered going out, but we're both tired from this morning/afternoon's adventure.

I don't give a shit at this point ... I'm so over this whole insane situation ... the students are the one's who will suffer.

I slept for almost 9 hours and still can’t stay awake this afternoon! It’s rainy and gloomy here.
DD is making pork carnitas but I think it will just be her and her SO eating that. She’s bringing most of it work for their office day on Tuesday. I’m making butternut squash soup and ds is cooking chicken wings. There will be lots to pick from!

We had planned to make a butternut squash & carmelized onion galette, but it's so dang hot I don't want to turn on the oven. 78 degrees still at 5PM...don't get me wrong, I love this weather (it's supposed to get colder within the next week), but definitely do not want to heat up the oven right now. So we may switch up the dinner plans and do a pasta dish for tonight and save the galette for later in the week. Hope your job stuff gets sorted, leannec.

scrapmaven . That unfortunately is the law in many states. In fact, because so many schools cannot find teachers technically you can teach up to 40% outside your certification area. I know I’ve said this before, but as a high school special education teacher, I was certified to teach any subject. Over the years, I taught credit bearing math, science, English, history. Did I like it? No, I had to spend many summers, learning subjects, or rather relearning. Long after I graduated with my degree and my masters degree they changed the rules here in New York State about 10 years ago. Not only were you a certified special education teacher, but you had to pick a subject areaa, take the state test in it and then you were certified. But that doesn’t mean that you also couldn’t teach one or two subjects out of your area. Does it stink? It sure does.

christine58 , it's just blatantly unfair to the students who need the knowledge and I'm sure very challenging and frustrating for the teachers who have to teach a subject that is out their realm. Perhaps this needs to be fixed at the top by paying teachers the salaries that they deserve, so that good teachers will stay in the field. I frosted my 6 inch cake w/a chocolate ganache frosting that was part of the recipe. Dh really enjoyed the cake and said it was very light. So, far I've baked 2 recipes from the mini cake book and it's a hit.
rymeswithpurple, if you make an offer I'll cross everything I can in order for you to get the house.

I get that BUT what are districts supposed to do when they can’t find teachers? In NYS we have what’s called Regents exams that every child has to pass in certain subjects like earth science, biology, global studies in 10th grade, English language arts in 11th grade. There are more than that but I don’t want to go through the whole list. It might be unfair to those students but I’ll tell you this, I worked my butt off to teach those children what they needed to know and I did not have one failure on any of the regents exams that I gave over the last 15 years that I was teaching. Prior to that I was teaching elementary school special ed, kids. I pride myself in the fact that my students got the knowledge that they needed as did everyone of my special ed colleagues. You’ll never got it districts to increase their school taxes, if they have them, to pay teachers what they deserve. We are the first line of attack.

I am not qualified to teach these subjects ... they believe that just because I am a long time (over 20 years) teacher I should be able to do it ... WTH??? This is no refection on you at all, so generally speaking - as a parent, I wouldn't want a teacher to be teaching my kids maths or science, or English, or any subject that they're not qualified to teach. It doesn't make sense. My ex-SIL is a PE teacher, and she also had to teach (at different times) maths and geography. I don't think she was too keen on it either.

DSO and I had a busy day on Sunday. A friend of his bought a house that they are going to demolish. We are taking their big pergola to put up in our backyard. We spent hours yesterday cleaning the corrugated plastic roofing panels. I think we got through about thirty panels, scrubbed clean on both sides. I am not used to manual labour hahaha, and I was exhausted. I was hoping that DD (who had run a half marathon in the morning and probably couldn't be bothered cooking) didn't want to come over for dinner, because I also did not want to cook. Luckily DSO suggested Fish & Chips.

More wedding errands today which seem to be never ending. I also turned my head to the side and pulled a muscle in my upper back. In the mean time the dog vomited peanut butter I think on my off white wool area rug. I’ve been steaming it but I can still see it. I made MrsCorbini’s (the name of the neighbor who gave me the recipe)chicken for dinner It smells awful to me so I couldn’t eat it. I made us Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Hopefully it smells better tomorrow. Thinking of you jeremysgirl leannec what an ordeal.

Well, I was going to have pork chops AGAIN (too many pork chops!) but then my brother brought out some ribs and beans for me, my sister gave me ricotta/spinach lasagne from the deli (or vice versa, I’m a little unclear on what came from whom), and my neighbor brought over some kind of bean soup. So I’m set for the next few days and the pork chops are going in the freezer.

I'm so sorry to hear about your job troubles, leannec. I was really hoping you'd have good outcomes to share. I'm steamed on your behalf. It sounds like they are really trying to push you out. It's an untenable position. I didn't get a chance to say congratulations to you, lucyg on your good news. You've been in my mind. As has jeremysgirl over there couple if especially tough days. We ran errands and spent some time snuggled on the couch. We ordered Chinese good for dinner...Kung paonchicken, pork dumplings, wings, sweet n sour chicken and crab Rangoon. How are we staring down another Monday already? Take care, everyone.

well.. we rolled out of bed at 3:45 am.. left for airport at 4:30 am.. flew to maui and arrived about 9 am their time.. our rental was available at 3 pm. picked up the car and went to Cafe O'Lei.. not far from airport and had a leisurely brunch. dh had mahi mahi and I had chicken lettuce wraps. bought some groceries there, found out our rental was available early so went to whole foods to finish our shopping.. and flopped down in the airconditioning.
we walked into town and dh had a pesto flatbread pizza, and i had a salad with chicken. I'm about to get up and serve up strawberries.
hugs to all who need them. I am exhausted and doing nothing tomorrow but getting organized. and reading.

Thank you, tmarschall ! Have a wonderful time on Maui, ntsf . My dad and step mom used to live there (Upcountry) but I haven’t been back since my dad died in 2007. There used to be a scrapbook store in Kahului that specialized in Hawaiian/tropical themed items. It’s probably gone by now, right? P.S. it’s still open! But it’s in Wailuku now, near Kahului, in case you’re interested. I saw at least one more Maui scrapbook store when I google searched, too. island-paperie.business.siteETA oddly enough, the web page says it’s open noon-4:00 on Monday and closed the rest of the week. That sounds crazy and I thought it might be a mistake, but who knows.
