Last month I ordered a couple backpacks off Amazon, to find one to use as a carry on. I put some stuff in each of them, tried them out. I decided I'd keep one and not the other after they had been sitting in my office for a week. I had a few other Amazon returns to make so I packaged up everything and dropped it off at the post office.
When I went to pack my bag I was looking for my ereader and the quilted cover my mom made. Looking, searching, then it hits me, did I double check all the pockets on the backpack I returned? Realize that's probably what happened and was upset at myself but it is what it is.
Go on my holiday. After I get back I get an email from a stranger that said he found my ereader in a backpack he ordered! Found my email on the ereader. He said he'd mail it to me. That was 10 days ago and I got it today!!! There are good people still out there.

Wow that’s amazing. I know there are good people out there but it’s nice to be reminded since we see much more bad than good lately.

That almost brought a tear to my eye. I am so sick of liars and cheats and I need to remember that the good people most definitely outweigh the bad. So glad you got your things back. If you write to thank him tell him that there is a message board full of people who think he is a stand up guy.

That is a wonderful story.
Also shows for sure that not everything you get from Amazon is new!

Also shows for sure that not everything you get from Amazon is new! Do you consider clothes returned to a brick and mortar store “not new”? Or is this just your way to shade the big bad Amazon?

That is a wonderful story. Yes, there are great people out there. Some 40 yrs ago I was robbed by two thugs who took my wallet. They must have been terribly disappointed because I had no more than $10 but it did have my paycheck. They must have taken their measly gains @nd discarded it because two days later two ladies showed up at my door with the wallet and everything in it but the cash.

Actually, I'm about as big a fan of Amazon as it is possible to be. As my monthly credit card bills show. Hope that answers your question.

What a great story!
I have questions--- Doesn't Amazon inspect returned packages before restocking them? So the reader didn't have a password and that's how's the guy found the email address?
On a side note, someone gave me a chip n dip bowl as a wedding gift 32 years ago. I didn't register for it. It was an odd, inexpensive gift and we never opened even opened the box. it was a lovely thought but we decided to return it so we could use the store credit to fill in what was missing in our china registry. We sent the gift giver a thank you note. "Thank you for the chip n dip bowl, blah blah blah". We get a call asking us if we also liked the one set of silverware they tucked inside the chip bowl. They put it inside the box because they didn't want it getting separated from the bigger box. OMG, we never knew it was in there because we never opened the chip box!!! Stupid us!!! So someone out there bought our returned chip and dip bowl and got an expensive silverware set bonus tucked inside. We never told the gift giver we returned the bowl and just thanked them for the silverware too.

Sweet story. What a nice person.
I don’t have a password on my kindle. If someone steals it, they can… read my books?

With all the stories of Amazon just sending all returns to the landfill - I'm glad to know some returns get restocked and resold.

While I’m delighted that the OP got her device back, I don’t really like the thought of items being resold without inspection. My mind fills in all sorts of scenarios where that could play out badly. You’d be surprised what we find in pockets and compartments of things donated to our hospice thrift store.

I had the tags on the bag, it was unused. Other than putting stuff in it and trying it on. But you'd think they would check that it was all intact and in good shape. Oh that's crazy that you never looked in and never told them either. With all the stories of Amazon just sending all returns to the landfill - I'm glad to know some returns get restocked and resold. Yes I was surprised it was resold. I had watched CBC's Marketplace episode on how people buy these huge lots of Amazon returns www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1yqcagavfY When searching for that video I see CNBC has the same story www.youtube.com/watch?v=66qOop6J8Q8

I think amazon bundles them up into giant pallets and sell them to resellers. i've seen people buying bundles from $50-$500+. some are great some are total duds. just like USPS sells dead mail to resellers. i saw a video of a vendor in las vegas selling them at a flea market for $1 an envelope.
