All I can say is wow! It is amazing how much he went through! It just emphasizes that no one ever really knows what another person is going through and that we should all practice grace with each other. I learned a lot from listening to him read the book. It is so sad that he will never be able to follow through with his dreams. He was sober (which is being reported by his friends) and was in a really good headspace at the time of his death.

I just finished listening to it 2 weeks ago. So hearing of his death wasn't as shocking as it might have been. I believe he was sober. I suspect though that his lifelong heavy smoking habit may have been the contributing factor. He says in the book near the end that he has to give up smoking because his doctor tells him he won't live to 60 if he doesn't.
It was very honest and really brought home that addiction is a disease. No one would choose to go through what all he did repeatedly without a force beyond their control in play.

I read it earlier this year. It's a miracle he survived so much! TBH, I came away thinking that he wouldn't be with us much longer. I didn't expect to lose him this soon though. I wonder if maybe once he had his whole truth out there (via the book), he somehow gave himself permission to let go.

Oh, I don't doubt that he was trying to quit. I think he put everything he had into getting healthy but you can't erase the damage of 40 years of heavy smoking quickly if at all. And his body had been through a lot from surgeries to repair damage to his colon from the opiates.

Just started it, and can’t wait. I actually already planned to read it before his death. The timing of his book is just so crazy. A way for people to know more than just “Chandler” 💔

His death has really upset me. I feel like he was lonely and sad. I don’t want to read his book because I know what drug addicts and alcoholics and their families go through. He tried really hard to overcome these things and that’s alot more than most do. I’m sad and instead of being happy when I watch friends, I am melancholy. Boo, hiss to drugs. I just feel sad and perplexed and then sad again.

I want to read or listen to it too. I think he was my favorite character on the show. He was my age... so sad...

I agree with your take on his book. It’s so raw and personable. We will never really know what he went through, but by listening to him tell his truth, the reader gets an inside look into his life. I highly recommend it, and I enjoy listening to his voice. Thank you Matthew for writing and recording your life story for us. Rest in peace, dear one.
