I was in the middle of a training and I get a call from a sergeant at the Santa Barbara PD informing me that a car had driven through our very tall, thick hedges and “made contact” with the house. My neighbor had given him my phone number. Apparently, a man had a medical emergency and blacked out. He took out the hedges and clipped the corner of our front porch. I’m 100% sure my dog was in the room of the window you see (which is my bedroom). She is OK, but traumatized. I’m sure the huge crash was followed by sirens (police, fire, paramedics) and people gathered around and talking and then a tow truck. My SIL came home as soon as I called her, but it was all cleared away by then. My dog won’t come in here now and is sleeping with my SIL tonight (she has never done that). The driver just missed our gas and water lines. And the only damage is to the porch, so we get to stay here. And the driver, from what I’ve heard, is OK. So all in all, it could’ve been much worse. Though I am going to have to get used to a lack of privacy and security (at least for a while).

Goodness! That is scary, but glad it wasn't worse than it was as you mentioned.
Hope you can get your porch fixed quickly and a possible solution for some privacy as trees/bushes don't grow that quickly.

Wow how scary. I’m glad no one was hurt and hope you can get the porch fixed soon snd get a new hedge for privacy. I hope your dog recovers from the trauma and returns to your room not that I blame him. What a crazy thing and so lucky they missed the gas and water lines.

Thank goodness no one was hurt but I feel for your dog. It is at times like this you wish they could talk and you could reassure them.
I wonder if a thundershirt would help him.

Yikes. Thankfully no one in the house was hurt. I hope the driver is ok, and that your dog will soon get past the fright from that experience.

Wow! I'm glad everyone is okay though, that he missed the gas lines, and that your dog is okay too. He'll get over the trauma of it since he has you and SIL to show him that there's nothing to be afraid of now. Offer him some yummy treats in that room.

I can't imagine getting that call! Glad everyone is ok. I wonder if you should call the vet? Maybe your dog could use a couple days of puppy Prozac or something.

That happened when I was 5. It hit my bedroom and threw my bed across the room, left a hole in the outside wall.
Luckily, I was in the next bedroom over while my babysitter was reading to me. If I’d been my little bed, it would have left a mark.
I hope your doggie gets over his trauma soon.

The driver's insurance may cover the cost of replacing the hedge, and it should be with things of reasonable size.
I say this because last year a newspaper delivery driver took out a bunch of arborvitae at the back of my yard and my neighbor's. The trees on that berm actually belong to the condo association/the condos located behind our houses. They were replaced with 8 foot trees, not little baby ones, and plants and fencing in my neighbor's flower bed were covered by the insurance also.

I’m so glad it wasn’t any worse than it was, but it still had to be freaky as all hell to get that call. Unfortunately it’s not as uncommon as one might think. My sister’s in-laws had that happen TWICE (once when mom and dad lived in the house and again years later when her BIL and his family were living there). DH was at work once when someone drove right through the front wall and windows of the building he was working in, and only missed him by about three minutes. He had been standing right where the car came through just before it happened, but he went to help someone and was on the other side of the store. And another time, an elderly woman drove through the retaining wall in front of my business. She thought she had the car in reverse but instead it was in drive and she plowed straight through the cinder block wall. 😳

Crap, that had to be scary for the pup. The good thing is that dogs easily forgive (but don't often forget). My pup was chased down by a coyote near our home. He was adamant that he not go near that place again. Sure enough, he was fine with it after having more positive experiences with it. Treats and hugs in the room he was traumatized in will eventually win him over.

Oh wow! Your poor little traumatised doggy! I can understand him being nervous now - if I had been in the house when a car crashed into it, I think I'd be nervous too, every time there was a bang of some kind.
