Do you prefer to watch foreign language tv/movies with subtitles or dubbed into your language?
I prefer subtitles. I don’t like when the mouth movement doesn’t correspond to the sound coming out of their mouths. Downside, I have to give 100% to the show and can’t do anything else while watching.

Definitely subtitles. I get what you’re saying about having to give your full attention, but I watch so little TV, that when I do watch something, I do it mindfully, rather than as a distraction. 😊

The only foreign language things I watch are food related TV shows on Netflix ... they come with subtitles!

I live in Norway, where only TV shows for the very young are dubbed.

I rarely watch movies or tv as it is and foreign language even less often but...if it's a language I have some familiarity with, I prefer subtitles but if it's one I have zero knowledge of, dubbing please

I voted for subtitles.
Call My Agent was the first foreign language series we've watched, as far as I can recall, and I was really nervous about whether we'd be able to follow along with the subtitles and really get into it, but we did and loved it (for all four seasons)!
Hearing what they were actually saying felt more natural. I even thought I was learning a little french along the way but it turns out I wasn't, well, except for a swear word here and there. 😂
Since then we've watched all of Lupin and The Empress with subtitles and loved them too.

Definitely subtitles. I posted on another thread that dubbing is far more distracting to me than having to read subtitles.

love watching the Korean and Chinese dramas on YouTube. The only thing offered are subtitles. That makes it easier to follow, especially when things pop up that are culture specific that you need to stop and Google.

I won’t watch anything dubbed, it ruins the experience for me.

Definitely subtitles. When I was learning French, I was watching Friends that was dubbed. It made me crazy to not have the mouth movements match the actor. For me, it’s easier to have the words up if I miss hearing some words.

I've gotten used to subtitles, and when I watch something in French, I like to confirm my understanding of the French with the words. I have a rudimentary knowledge of French.

We've watched a variety of foreign films/series. You can find some real gems.
We are currently about 5 out 6 episodes into a Netflix series called High Water, it's totally in Polish with English subtitles. It's very well done but we are approaching the flood event and I need to be in the right mood for that, especially since we are having storms here. There are a couple of characters I don't want to die.

I watch a lot of Korean dramas, I always have subtitles on as I find dubbing makes everyone sound like they only have one emotion.

I prefer dubbing, if it's done well. With my fading eyesight, I cannot watch the screen and read the subtitles quickly enough to understand what they're saying. I can normally catch only about half the sentence before the screen changes.

Subtitles here. We watch a decent amount of foreign tv & movies, so we just hunker down and give them our full attention.
It's fun traveling to other countries though where the films are english speaking & the subtitles are in that country's language. It kind of helps me pick up on some words/phrasing too.

I prefer subtitles as the actors are much better in expression than the dubbing. Plus I love hearing the languages. I have to admit that I've watched a lot of kdramas and my vocabulary of understanding has been growing.
