The thread on craft fairs had me wondering how many of you use or don’t use cash.
I use both cash and credit cards, depends on the situation. For small items, less than $20, I tend to use cash. I always have cash on me.

I always carry cash. For small purchases or for fast food places, I use cash. For groceries or larger purchases. I use a card.

It's pretty rare I use cash. I use my credit card for everything I can, for the airline points. I typically have around $20 on me, just in case.

We always have lots of cash.
It’s easier for me to give my kids cash when we go out and separate (for example, we go to the mall and they walk around with their friends while I walk around with the moms or we go to a restaurant with friends and all the kids sit at a table while the moms sit at a table way on the other side). And their grandparents are always giving them cash, so they always pay for everything in cash.
We go to lots of vendor and artist type events (like conventions, craft shows, flea markets) where it’s just easier to have cash.
I consider cash to be our “fun money.” I don’t have to track spending, keep a balance, etc. I don’t budget it the way I have to budget and balance our bank accounts to pay bills and actual living expenses. Cash is for all the extra things that I don’t want to come out of our household budget.

I almost always use my check card. Occasionally I use my credit card.
While I have cash on my, it is hardly used.
Only time I do use cash is for school stuff - a.p.e events, fundraisers, etc.

I pull $200 bucks at the start of the month in case I run out of funds by the end for gas. I rarely need it.

Almost never. I do keep some, maybe $100 in ones, fives, and tens, for an emergency but rarely use it. I did use some of it not too long ago when I forgot to include a tip in an online delivery restaurant order but fortunately I remembered before the guy got here and I handed him a cash tip. I also used it once fairly recently when some neighbors had a guy trimming some branches and I went down and asked if he had time to do a quick job on one our big bushes. I gave him cash for that.
Otherwise, never. I used to use it for small purchases until dd cured me of that. lol. She reminded me that I get Amazon points for everything so why not take advantage of that. Now I just use a credit card. And, my old one recently expired and my new one has the "tap" capability... lol at me, I feel like I've entered the Space Age. hahaha

I use cash a fair bit - it’s just the way it is here. My nail salon is cash only, and I will use cash at places like the bakery for small purchases (under €5)

Very very rarely use cash. I use credit card or Apple Pay. My kids almost exclusively use Apple Pay.
My nail salons, waxing etc almost all use Venmo. I don’t know anyone who uses cash.

I/we don’t get a lot of cash in hand so to speak so we’d have to go to the atm if we wanted a real amount so we tend to use cards for that reason.

I picked both. It depends on what I am buying, the cost, and who I am buying from.
Some places require a minimum, so with little purchases I will use cash. If it is a small local establishment I often try and use cash to lessen their processing fees for electronic or card purchases. Always card for things like gas.

I have to pay for parking at my son’s weekly speech therapy group and if I bring cash the attendant only charges me $2 instead of the usual $4 for how long I park. That’s the only time I ever use cash.

I always use my credit card for the miles. I don't have a debit card because you are on the hook for those while the bank investigates fraud charges. I have an ATM only card. I also don't want anyone to have access to my checking account. If my credit card gets stolen, so be it. I'm not on the hook for those charges. My dd had about $500 in fraud charges to Apple on her debit card and was out that money while they investigated it. After that, no more debit cards.
I may have a 20 dollars in cash in my wallet but I never use it for anything. Whenever my kids are given cash as gifts, etc. they give it to me and I transfer the money into their account. They use their credit cards and if it is on the card that I pay for, then I just move the money out of their account.

I almost always use my card. But when we lived in Belgium, we used a lot of cash for the pâtisserie or in the markets. In fact, I used to buy rolls of 1€ and 2€ coins from the bank.
Here, I do use cash for small purchases at small businesses. I know it used to be about $3, but i don't know if now it’s just a percentage. I don’t want them to pay a $3 fee on a $2 purchase.

I use my credit card for everything (except gas) regardless of price because I get cash back for every purchase. The only reason I use cash is for gas is because ARCO doesn't take credit cards.
I NEVER use my debit card.

Before COVID I was a 100% always use cash person. I took my money out for the month and when it was gone, it was gone. Since I'm still on lock-down and do curbside for groceries, I use a card. I will go back to using cash though when I can. I find it's the easiest way to keep me on budget

I almost always have some cash in my purse and we always have some cash at home. It really depends on the situation for when I pay with what. Big purchases in a store, groceries, Target anything online (obviously) I will use a card. Small businesses, small purchases especially, I try to use cash whenever possible because those fees add up so fast. In some cases you don’t have an option, if you want the item you have to pay with whatever forms of payment the business accepts.
Most people don’t know that if a business routinely has a lot of very small transactions they will end up paying a higher percentage for their merchant fees compared to someone who tends to always have large transactions. So for that reason I don’t like to even use a debit card for purchases under $15-20.
For all the people who never carry cash, consider this. All of those perks you’re getting from your credit card company for using your card everywhere are being paid for by someone, somewhere down the line which means that ultimately it ends up costing everyone, everywhere more. No business is just going to eat those costs, they’re going to pass them along to the consumer in the form of higher prices. One way or another, you will end up paying for the perks you get. That’s the main reason why DH decided that he was only going to upcharge for those people who are costing him more, because it isn’t fair for everyone to pay a higher rate if they’re willing to pay a different way.

I needed cash for birthday gifts and so I used the atm and the fees were over five bucks. My check is directly deposited, I use a credit Union that’s a 45 min drive and I work Monday through Friday and occasional Saturdays so going to the bank is a pain. The only way I have cash is if my husband takes some cash back at the grocery store. I need cash for the cafeteria at work but otherwise debit or credit card.

I very rarely use cash. I typically have a couple hundred dollars in my wallet for emergencies, and have a larger sum of cash in our safe for emergencies, but day to day I only use my debit card unless there’s no other way to pay.

I once found myself with no cash and had to use my credit card for a $3.00 purchase and it just felt silly to me. But, that is me.

I haven't been to an atm in probably 10 years. I never carry cash unless someone gives it to me - usually my kids who ask me to venmo them and give me the cash someone gifted them.

I never have more than a couple of dollars of coins in my wallet. I use my debit card for everything. BUT DH takes out cash every week and uses it for small purchases and tips etc... Typically I'm only paying for groceries or the occasional scrapbooking purchase - he gets everything else usually

We use cash at craft fairs and to get my hair done and a couple other places. We use the Costco Rewards credit card everywhere we can. We also pick up things for our Daughter and family from Costco. Our fuel for our vehicles is purchased at Costco. We pay our car insurance twice a year on our credit card. Our Health insurance and phone bills go on the card. We pay it monthly and get a percentage back at the end of the year up to $1000. Last year we got back $650. We bought a fifteen dollar item with the cheque, took the rest in cash and put it in our bank account. We also have their Executive membership card for around 125 dollars. They paid us back over 150 dollars last year.

I own a salon so I always have cash from the register there. I pay cash for most things instead of depositing into bank just to use card.

I currently have cash on hand because it was a wedding gift from friends two months ago. Otherwise, I haven't carried anything but some change for the last couple years. I can't tell you the last time I went to an ATM or the bank.
My husband, however, always always always has cash. His mother did the same thing and used to have several hundred dollars stashed in various places in her house at all times. He doesn't keep a bunch in the house but he always has some on him.

My preferred method of payment is cash.
I always have cash on me. I try to anticipate my cash needed for the day, and plan accordingly. I usually have a couple $20's emergency cash stashed away in my purse. I also have-use the Am Ex Bluebird (pre-paid card), that I 've had since the walmart savings price-match rewards days (it would automatically transfer the savings money to the card). I will add my birthday and Christmas money to it, so I don't have to carry that cash around with me. To me, the pre-paid card is like cash, because I don't owe a payment on it monthly like I do with my credit card (I pay my credit card off in full every month, so I try to not use it unless necessary).
I spend less if I pay with cash, because I don't like parting with my cash, so I think twice about purchases. I always have my debit card and credit card with me, so I can always use that if needed or necessary.
