We are thinking of moving to Winston Salem Clemmons Advance areas for retirement. So are several family members. Any suggestions when buying a house?

I have a friend that has a son that lives in NC and they just recently gave up on the thought of moving there as the real estate is similar to what it is like in probably all states. Slim pickens. Her son will continue to keep his eye open, but for now they are staying put.

Oh that is something that is attractive - tge real estate market here ( seattle Tacoma) is horribly expensive. Looks like you can buy a nice house there for $300-$400K

Her husband is handy, but they are retired and he doesn't want to remodel a home to their liking.

I think you will do better there than if you were in looking at Raleigh or Charlotte. The traffic is also much less in the Winston area. We live an hour from Clemmons. We travel to Bermuda Run and Winston Salem for medical care - another excellent reason to live there - and seldom encounter any significant traffic regardless of appointment times. Since we don't go through the residential areas that often, I, unfortunately, can not make any recommendations on where to live. You would just have to visit and figure out what suits your needs. You will have to get used to the heat. I had an aunt who grew up here and moved to Washington in her late teens. She could never stand the summers here again.

I agree with lisae. Winston/Clemmons is a great area. I would live there over Charlotte or Raleigh any day. I used to take my car for service over there, and I always loved going. I am an hour from Clemmons. Always an easy drive, and everything you could want/need is in the area. I have tons of realty friends. If you need a realtor for that area, PM me, and I can ask if they can give me a good name.

It is a lovely area, for sure. I love Winston-Salem, although I live in the Raleigh area. Just be aware the real estate market here is as hot as anywhere in the US right now. Have your financing in order and be prepared to move quickly if you find "the one."
