Earlier this year I started a thread asking on opinions about whether to take my DSLR on our overseas trip, or just stick with my iPhone. On that thread, scrappinmama suggested getting a gimbal. I bought one from Amazon before my trip, but it had trouble holding straight with the weight of my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I bought another one while we were in Bangkok, and that worked quite well, although the battery didn't last long. I lent it to DD when she went to Vietnam in September, but it didn't work for her. When she got home I tried to use it, but it is well and truly knackered. So, I am in the market for another gimbal. I'm not in any hurry to buy one, because I don't have another trip planned yet. But if I can get a good Black Friday deal, I will probably buy one now. I have spent a bit of time today reading reviews and watching videos, and I quite like the look of this one: Hohem iSteady M6 Kit with AI Magnetic Tracking Part. It's bigger than the other two I bought, but I have watched videos where they're using a 14 Pro Max, so at least I know it can hold the weight. And it has lots of cool features that my other two didn't. Does anyone have a gimbal (for their phone) that they love?

I have one I don’t love because it is too big, or at least it feels too big for me. It is about 5 years old. Are they much smaller now?

The one I am looking at buying is bigger, but with that comes a much better battery. I am willing to go bigger to get a battery that lasts for 8+ hours instead of less than 2 hours, and that can easily hold the weight of my iPhone Pro Max, which one of my smaller ones couldn't.

gorgeouskid that is the exact model I had on my Amazon Wishlist, before I found the other one I linked! I just need to decide how much I want to spend.

I have never even heard of a gimbal so I had to look it up. That's why I like this place, always learning something new.
I can't see myself ever having need of one and I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone with one but if I did I probably thought it was a selfie stick or something.
Is it mainly used for content creation, like for tiktok or IG?

Is it mainly used for content creation, like for tiktok or IG? It helps you get smooth videos, especially moving videos, like if you are walking or in a car. You can even set them up to follow a person/object as it moves. They use it for photos too, but I don’t really understand the need for it on a static photo.

I've never used one for my phone, so I don't have firsthand experience to share. But the gimbal I use with my camera is a Zhiyun Crane. They make a full line of phone gimbals called the Zhiyun Smooth. Looks like they have Black Friday pricing on now, too.

Like I said, mine feels too big and bulky for me. Maybe I should look into one of the compact ones.

They look really good tallgirl. I think they're a bit out of my price range though - the phone gimbals are $500-$600 Aussie dollars even with the discount. Zee I used mine on my overseas trip, so I could get smooth videos while we were walking (my inspiration: tallgirl ) I also used it as a selfie stick and a tripod with the remote control, but that was not the main reason I bought one.

Oh wow. I’m in Canada so the exchange rate is a bummer for me too - but mine was under $300 when I bought it a few years ago, and I thought phone gimbals would be even cheaper. That does sound like a lot!
