We are doing both actually. Regular Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday with my parents/sister/nephew etc. The only day that works for everyone.
So on Thursday we decided to do a bunch of appetizers. I didn't feel like cooking two big feasts close together and didn't want the same old regular weeknight dinners. Dh absolutely adores pigs in blankets with puff pastry and I generally only make them at Christmas so we'll have that, sausage balls, chaucuterie board with cheese from the cheese store, veggies with dip, cranberry brie bites and pumpkin pie. Or maybe a different dessert, I don't know yet. Possibly shrimp cocktail.

Being of Asian heritage, all our holiday meals are non-traditional. We always mix traditional stuff with Japanese/Hawaiian stuff.

We usually do traditional for Thanksgiving, but very non traditional for Christmas. But, if I was going to do two dinners so close together, definitely would do non traditional for one of them.

We really aren't doing Thanksgiving at all this year.
My Dad passed away this past June, and I am just not up for making a big meal. My Facebook memories has been full of him helping me make his mother's dressing recipe every year so it is very hard to see.
This year, both DH and DS have to work overnight both Wednesday and Thursday so will be sleeping from about 11ish to 8pm on Thursday.
DD is coming in town Wednesday evening, and if not for her I wouldn't be making any effort for food this coming weekend.
I decided to just have a really big breakfast/brunch together (DH and DS will be in by 7:30am) around 9.
So we are having sausage stuffing balls, baked ham, smoked sausage, homemade biscuits, oven fried potatoes, baked veggie omelet, homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, and a fruity punch with some sparkling wine added.
DD and I will probably spend the day watching movies.

Not a fan of Thanksgiving, and haven't had a traditional meal for it since ds22 was born. We are generally in England over Thanksgiving, and this year we will be in London.

It's not really non-traditional, but it's different. We're having chicken for dinner. A turkey is too much food for the 4 of us. Since we have no family within 1,000 miles, we just stay in our lounging clothes and have a casual Thanksgiving. We usually decorate our trees in the evening.

We are because we're going to see my kid in NY. I did tease him that he would have to make dinner in his tiny kitchen, but we're actually going to the parade and then Italian for lunch.

We are having bacon-wrapped quail instead of turkey. Sides will be traditional with a Texas twist. 😀

We are pretty traditional for Thanksgiving. Comically enough, I made Cornish hens, Stove Top, and corn tonight. Thursday will be turkey, etc.
Last year for the first time, I went off script for Christmas and made manicotti

Being of Asian heritage, all our holiday meals are non-traditional. We always mix traditional stuff with Japanese/Hawaiian stuff. If we are hosting, you’ll be getting a mix of Japanese and Korean food. We do a bunch of the more labor intensive dishes. If not for Thanksgiving, then for Christmas. Especially if we are with my DD who grew up in those countries. So for her, that type of food means the holidays, not traditional American food.

That’s what I was told it is called. Yoku shiranai ne. Have you ever had Japanese spam with the picture of the fish on it? It’s decent. You are Nikkei jin desu ka?

Do you call thanksgiving kanshasai? No, that is what people in Japan call it. We (my family) have been here too long (since the late 1800's) to call it anything but Thanksgiving. Have you ever had Japanese spam with the picture of the fish on it? I've never seen or heard of this. I do like Spam Musubi though. You are Nikkei jin desu ka? Hai! My mom's side of the family landed in Hawaii in the late 1800's. They came to work on the sugar cane plantations. My dad's side arrived in California in the early 1900's.

You know more than I do. My son loves his Japanese heritage. Did you go to Nihongo gakkou? My son did that but can only understand a bit. Everything is Hai or Iie. lol I tried!

I don't like Thanksgiving foods so I always do something non-traditional. We did go to a pot luck last night so DH got his turkey and dressing.
I plan to do pork tenderloin with roasted vegetables. I have made pizza for Thanksgiving. It is really just another day that I cook. The only thing special I do is use good china.

Did you go to Nihongo gakkou? I was forced to. LOL! I hated it. For one, it was every Saturday morning. I wanted to watch cartoons! Second, it was geared towards kids that came from homes that spoke Japanese. We did not speak Japanese in the home, other than basic words and phrases. My parents were no help on homework. But, I did like hanging out with my friends, most of whom I went to elementary school with. I was so glad when I was finally able to quit. I did take Japanese in college though. I do wish I knew the language better, but it is what it is.

For the past few years I've been ordering ribs from a really good barbeque place. They are amazing. They sell turkey too, but when it came time to order the first time everyone said they liked ribs better.
Since mom died and then covid Thanksgiving has become a really small affair. So the meal will be ribs, mashed potatoes, green beans (all from the rib place). I'll make brussels sprouts and my sister will make mac & cheese and pies. Maybe I'll make stuffing. I really like stuffing.
This year Thanksgiving day will just be my sister, my dad, and me, because the kids do Thanksgiving day with their father. The next day my sister can't come but we'll reheat everything for dad, the kids, maybe their father, and I.

We are doing 2 things different. One, we are having chicken instead of turkey - the rest will be the traditional sides Two, we are spending the day with just the 3 of us. Not going to the family dinner as usual.

Yes! For the past several years, we so chill (made in the crockpot) and several sides. We cook for 30+ and realized we spent all day in the kitchen and didn’t have much time for actually socializing. If someone wants a traditional meal, they can cook at their time and their house.
And then usually later, we make a traditional meal just for us! It’s made it so much easier and nicer on Thanksgiving for us to do this. Everyone in our family knows the deal and is good with it!

We're going out for Thanksgiving dinner, this year. Everyone has been really busy and we were waiting on the referral for DH to go to IU Health in Indy for his liver disease. So we didn't make plans. The restaurant has their take on traditional thanksgiving food and some not so traditional. Most of us are going to have prime rib?

For the past 10-15 years we always have lasagna as it was just us and our son and he didn't like turkey. One daughter loves in Canada and didn't celebrate US Thanksgiving and the other daughter always does something non traditional.
This year we have moved and we are going to the Oregon coast with our 2 girls and their husbands. Our youngest daughter & her dh are cooking.
They are making Spinach Chaat, samosas & Chutney, pani puri, Butter chicken, Pork Vindaloo, curry veggies, tumeric basmati rice, naan.

We usually go to the beach with a very large group of friends. Food is a Thanksgiving twist on finger food like Hawaiian rolls with turkey, cranberry, and brie, or deep-fried balls of stuffing on sticks. This year we're going to DD's out west. Her DH is a great cook and he's giving me the day off. He's making lamb shanks, portobello Wellington, and sticky toffee pudding. Other people are bringing stuff. Should be awesome. I've sent aprons from Etsy for him and our granddaughter with their names on them. Should be really cute.
