peppermintpatty I am not an antivax dog Mom. I am overprotective dog mom. Both my girls are not due for vaxxes until Mid-January. I spoke to my vet. She had three cases this week. Two were groomer related. She is taking precautions. She is sending my scrip in. I can do the vaccines. I am trained to administer vaccines. I am saving a ton of money too. The girls already had their wellness checks for this year. She is also going to be doing home visits or allowing parking lot vaccines and wellness checks. Feels like Covid precautions all over again. pantsonfire I guess that would work if you have the privilege of owning a vehicle or could have a trusted friend/relative to take time off their schedule to drive you and spend time waiting.

Harper doesn’t go to dog parks nor a groomer. I trim her toenails myself. She was boarded for four days last week but I know he sanitizes everything in between but I haven’t heard of any cases in this area. She also gets a lepto vaccine. Can’t remember if it’s every year or every three years. We had numerous cases of that around here a couple years ago.
ETA. Segment on GMA today.

I've seen this on the news and TT. My dogs don't go anywhere other than the vet and groomer. They were at the vet last week and nothing was mentioned. They're going to the groomer today, first appointment, 7am.

I learned about it at the end of last week and was unable to make alternative arrangements for our dog while we’re away this week and I’m so stressed out that he’s being boarded. Same. Our two go the kennel tonight to stay until Saturday evening. I can't find any reports of it being diagnosed in our state yet, so we're hoping it's a non-issue for the dogs.

I am very freaked out. My dogs don't socialize with other dogs unless it is through the fence. I am still freaked out that would be enough to make them sick. They are both due for vaccines. I am going to put it off unless my vet will let me do them at home. Why put off necessary vaccines because of this? That is more important. Your dogs will be fine. Vaccines do not magically stop working the day of expiration; blood titers show that in most cases they last at least another six months and often much longer. The expiration date is to give a consistent baseline for everyone to know when to get a booster and is basically the earliest point the protection could wear off. Unless there are other risk factors, there's virtually no risk of delaying the vaccines a bit until more is known about this illness.

My oldest is a dog groomer and pretty freaked about bringing something home to her dog. She has implemented our “parvovirus in the shelter” protocol from when we did a lot of rescue stuff. Changes out of her clothes and shoes in the garage, straight to the shower, bagged clothes go in the washer immediately. Her shoes for work go in a plastic bag outside work and never enter the house or car, but she started that long ago when some idiot brought ina puppy to be groomed with distemper.

Poor Hope. We live around a lot of wild animals so it is a highly suggested vaccine. She will keep getting it. Maybe ask about a pain shot is possible to help.
