I’m seeing actual vets talk about it on TikTok and now I’m a little freaked out. Apparently, it is highly contagious and antibiotic resistant. They say we need to isolate our pets, Covid style—avoid groomers, dog parks, kennels, etc. I was going to take my dogs to tan off-leash hiking trail they LOVE this morning, but am now having second thoughts. Have you heard of this?

Haven't heard anything about this. Vet didn't mention anything either.
We don't go to the dog parks here as they are grounds for fights, disease, infection, and injuries.
Dogs just went to the groomers on Saturday and nothing was said there.

I read about it this morning and it has me very concerned. Our two year old Golden has been sick for a month - not eating for a couple days at a time, barely drinking and sleeping a lot. We have been to the vet three times and the vet hospital twice in that time. His blood work is always good, his vitals are good but they did see something in his lungs on the x-ray last week. He has been on antibiotics since that appt on Thursday but still no change.
Oddly enough though, he never plays with other dogs and has never been to a dog park. We have about an acre, all fenced and no dogs come in so I am very confident that he has not caught whatever he has from another dog.

That does sound concerning, Katy. I hope you really enjoy your week off despite this development.

I was going to let my pup go to daycare, but since it isn't necessary, I'm passing.
I do have the mobile groomer coming tomorrow. I'm hoping she sanitizes between dogs

I had not seen this. Our dog has been fighting an eye discharge since July - she just got cleared from it - and now is at the vet today for a possible UTI. We went to a football game on Saturday and she was in her crate too long. Since COVID, we forgot she is just not used to that. We felt awful - she had an accident and then wanted to go potty every hour, and tried to potty 2-3 times when we took her out. She seemed much better yesterday, but today I saw blood in her urine =(

My son sent me a few articles on it. He lives in the Pacific Northwest where there have been cases and is really worried for his 8 year old pup. Our 14 year old Sadie is a large dog and on borrowed time already so we'll definitely be steering clear of other dogs.

I just located the local dog park and was going to take my pup today! I am considering your post to be an in-the-nick-of-time warning and will stay home. Especially since I am now in Oregon where these infections seem to be taking place so much. Thank you katybee!

I have seen quite a bit about it. My pups do go for lots of walks, but we aren't big into dog parks, so avoiding them is pretty easy. My son's dog does go out a lot and visits places frequently that could make her sick. Will talk to him this week and see if he's heard about it. Thanks for the reminder.

I just read about that today. My dog had a spontaneous pneumothorax about 6 years ago, so I already avoid dog parks. I was going to take him to get his nails clipped, but I think I'll put that off for a bit.

I have heard about it because a friend of mine does competitive rally with her labs and some cases were showing up. I also read an article last week in either the NYTimes or WaPo.

my dog is 15 so he will be extra isolated. he's almost due for a grooming but we may postpone it just a bit until this blows over for the most part.

I was blown away after I learned how many diseases birds can spread with their droppings.

Yes, I saw something on the news about it this morning. My dog goes to a sitter's house instead of a kennel but he needs to be groomed as he is shaggy and his nails are long. I think i might hold out until this passes and he can just be shaggy for the time being. Better than getting sick!

I have heard about it, not in real life, just in the news.
My dog doesn't get groomed professionally and she kind of ignores other dogs at the dog park now that she's getting to be middle aged (lol she's five, maybe it's like dropping a 40 year old at the mall and telling them to go play with the other 40 year olds?) so we don't really go anymore.
We just walk on trails or at the park on the jogging path.

Off and on again sick. Had I not done some I garner searching we would have lost her. Requested the blood draw and drove it to KState vet school myself. It's it on on around here. Also check for all tick borne diseases

Yes, I’ve seen several articles mention it. I hope everyone’s dogs stay safe and healthy, and for those that are ailing that they feel better soon!

I learned about it at the end of last week and was unable to make alternative arrangements for our dog while we’re away this week and I’m so stressed out that he’s being boarded. 🥺

I have a client whose dog had a cough and just passed away 😢. I wonder if something like that is up here too.

I am very freaked out. My dogs don't socialize with other dogs unless it is through the fence. I am still freaked out that would be enough to make them sick. They are both due for vaccines. I am going to put it off unless my vet will let me do them at home.

I still take my dog to the groomer. He has to go. We do a pass through appt where he is in and out in about an hour. I'm willing to risk it. He also goes to the vet fairly frequently due to his age. Can't stop that. He was never much for other dogs so we don't go to dog parks.

She has high a ph leve in her urinel, some crystal formation red and white blood cells. So they are going to treat with antibiotics and recheck urine in 2 weeks. If things don’t normalize they would need to do blood work. They said possiblly Saturday was cause but also possible coincidental - Worse case is kidney stone or mass they said she needs to drink more. any idea on how you get animals to drink more? with the cat, we add water to his food, i guess i can do the same with the dog? She is a Portugese water dog. She is supposed to go to the groomers on Monday. I think she is there by herself and they clean btwn dogs. I will confirm that. At our old groomer, she was among lots of animals so I would be a lot more worried. I try to keep her on a grooming schedule bc of her hair and her nails are black, so it's really hard for me to clip them (plus she hates it!)

Our kitten was getting crystals in her urine. We tried everything to get her to drink water, but she just doesn't! She only gets wet cat food, the stuff with gravy, so she get hydration. Seems to work because the litter box is full of urine. So for a dog, I would add wet food to his diet too to get more hydration. Mixing with the dry food.

It’s been a problem in our area for a while. They were closing the shelters at times this summer because it had become such a problem.
