#1. I think this is the most ridiculous "tradition" possible. It is just stupid!
#2. Did anyone else notice the condition of the turkey's tail? I have never seen a turkey tail that looked like that. It looked like someone had removed every other feather. What in the world happened to the poor turkey's tail? Surely someone didn't pluck the feathers when the bird was alive.
#3. Why do they always get a white turkey? Why not the dark feathered bird?
You can see a bit of the tail in this photo.

I think it's a hilarious, light- hearted tradition. In fact, my favorite episode of West Wing is Shibboleth, where CJ is in charge of the turkeys to be pardoned. I LOL every time! But then I worked in government PR and there were plenty of ceremonial events that our governor participated in that might have seemed ridiculous to people. So from my perspective, it just goes with the territory.

Wild turkeys are brown; typically you won't find them in the grocery store.. Domesticated birds, raised for consumption, are white. Their tails are probably ratty looking because the birds will pick at each other in confined spaces, like a turkey house. All this "knowledge" is based on my experiences growing up in rural North Carolina. Things may be different in other parts of the country.

It is silly. We aren't the only ones who think that. Per Obama's autobiography, he didn't think much of it either.

I think it is cute and fun for the kids. It is silly but I look forward to it. I would love to see a wild turkey at the WH. That would be a comedy movie. Wild turkeys are insane. I am on the fringe of rural. Lots of wild crazy turkeys around here. Legacy Girl That is one of my favorite WW episodes too.

I think it’s a fun tradition and I thought the names were great.
I’ve never paid much attention to what turkeys look like, but I thought these were beautiful birds. They were so white with the red, white and blue.

Wild turkeys are so much more attractive. We have a bunch that live in the woods behind our house and I love seeing them. What is really fun is when they show up and the deer are there and they run after the deer and scare them!

Have you ever seen a compilation of his turkey pardons? The dad jokes get increasingly worse and his daughters look increasingly mortified lol.

I have seen one of the last ones where his daughters were definitely too old to want to be on camera with dad when he was making jokes, even if he was Potus.
