what would you put in it? As most of you know, I am going through a divorce, and while I love the holidays, the past few years, they have been a bit depressing, too. My kids are great, but they are all adults, none live at home. I am finished with my decorating (I know, but it makes me happy!) Last year, I started a couple of fun new traditions with my kids, and I am looking forward to those again. Last year, the kids and I did not exchange gifts, and we will be this year, but it won't be much. And that's okay with me. It made the season so much stressful last year. One of the things I have missed the most about my kids being young at Christmas time is filling their stockings. I always had so much fun doing that, and they always knew that whenever they woke up, they could open their stockings. I think I am going to do stockings for them this year, even though two of my kids live far away. I will probably just mail theirs because they won't be home for Christmas. I thought to give myself something fun to look forward to, I would find some nice things and fill my own stocking. Sounds weird, I'm sure. But no one else is going to do it for me. LOL I am going to start with one of these: teema.co/They look so versatile, and I can see myself wrapping up in it at the office when it is chilly, or at home. Plus, I am hoping to go to the beach next summer, and I can use it then, too. I started a charm bracelet this year, and I will get a charm for that, but I'm not sure what yet. That's all I've got so far. Sooo...if you were filling your own stocking, what would you put in it?

What a great idea! I haven't had a stocking in YEARS, and also live alone. I think I would put some stamping supplies in mine, and also some chocolates from the local chocolate store.
Maybe I'll treat myself this year.

Ooooh those look awesome! I am a lip balm collector, but they usually come from CVS or Walmart. LOL Maybe I should treat myself to something a little more indulgent for winter.

I got a set of Laneige lip sleeping masks from Sephora that someone linked here on another thread. I'm dividing those up in stockings for my daughters-in-law and me. I also got the Peter Thomas Roth mask set to do the same with. I like to get small travel sizes of good products as they come in handy when trying to pack light. A pass or membership to the local car wash would be a lovely gift to yourself. I also like getting a pretty new tea towel. It makes washing up the dishes so much more pleasant with a pretty towel.

OP - Check out all the mini sets available at Sephora. There might be something you want to try or even need! I would also add in a cute monthly calendar for my bedside or home desk, a new pen or marker, a blank journal, perhaps a sweet or two.

I always fill my own stocking! I put in a chocolate bar that I like, a magazine or two (because they are so stupidly expensive now that I refuse to buy them the rest of the year, so they are a 'special treat'!), bath stuff, usually some little ridiculous gadget that I've found in the check out line at either Homesense or Chapters, some socks or slippers, and maybe a book. I also often buy myself a tea advent calendar, so I get one little surprise every morning from that.

Lottery tickets. I enjoy scratching them off, but I hate buying them because I'm not a gambler at heart. So I always want lottery scratchers in my stocking.

My puppy is on stocking and gift duty so she's taking notes I like the idea of some nice chocolates. A Rifle Paper Co desk calendar I get each year and another small calendar I use on my bulletin board at work.

Ever since I was a kid we always got a big bag of the holiday M&Ms (they used to be a full pound!) and a box of animal crackers. This is my first Christmas without any parents so I bought those two things for my own stocking this year.
We always did little thing stockings so stuff like lips balms, hair ties, book of stamps, batteries, little kitchen gadgets, etc.

Magazines. I love looking at cooking and decorating magazines, but I almost never buy them as I hate paying the prices. I know it's all online, but sometimes it's fun to hold in your hands.
Otherwise, a beautiful Christmas ornament, a fancy and yummy smelling hand lotion, good chocolate truffles/See's Candy chocolates, a book or two.

I bought myself this journal a couple of months ago, and it would be a nice thing to get yourself. 99 Things That Bring Me Joy
Last Christmas I got this for myself, and bought a few as small gifts for others too. Affirmators
And while I was looking for the link to these, I came across these ones, which also look fun! Sweary affirmationsI would also add some of my favourite chocolates, and a bottle of Disaronno Amaretto Velvet. And get quietly sozzled on Christmas night. 😄

I didn't do it this year, but in the past, I've bought miniatures, lip balms, fuzzy socks, and mini makeup items from the checkout line at Sephora and Ulta. I always forget about them after putting them in DH closet, so they're usually a fresh surprise!
He adds favorite candies and other little items.

a magazine or two (because they are so stupidly expensive now that I refuse to buy them the rest of the year, so they are a 'special treat'!), What in the world has happened to magazines??? Good grief. I remember when they were 2.99 or maybe 4.99. I picked up one in the grocery store the other day, and it was 14.99. NOPE. My puppy is on stocking and gift duty so she's taking notes Haha love it! I doubt my bratty cat is taking notes. She is probably just expecting her own stocking, full of treats that she will turn her nose up at. LOL " So many great ideas here! I may need more than one stocking to fill.

IF i helped fill my own stocking? Ha! I always add to it. DH is fabulous with this task (and I always have an orange box in there), but I like to add a few things as well. - Movie
- Makeup
- skincare
- hair stuff
- nail stuff
- Fun bath products
- Small craft items
- Purple pens (restock my and my mom’s supplies each year)
- Helpful items (command hooks, scraper, bracelet helper, special clippers)
- Eta: pantsonfire reminded me kitchen tools
- Ornaments
Something my family does now that we’re all grown is bring something for everybody’s stocking. We set them up somewhere people can discretely add to them and give everyone a chance to fill them. I usually wrap those from me & DH though, it’s easier. There’s supposed to be a $10 limit. Yeah, doesn’t usually work out that way. I remember one year we ended up having to substitute paper bags, mom may have gone a little crazy. When I was younger and had my first job I noticed how mom always got screwed in the stocking category so started adding to hers. I’ve done it for a friend a couple times as well. It’s hard when you’re the one that always does for others because often you’re left out and most people don’t notice. I’m sorry. I do love that you decided to treat yourself! Not for nothing, jewelry would easily fit! So would a spa gift certificate, nice leather gloves, a new wallet. eta: Something you could start at the beginning of each year is buying stocking items and wrapping them. That way your stocking truly does have some surprises!

What do you like about the Energel better than the RSVP?

You’ve received some great ideas here, and I have nothing to add to them.
You mentioned you hadn’t decided on what charm to get for your bracelet - might I suggest something that reminds you what a strong, badass woman you have shown yourself to be! The year I quit drinking I got myself a ”new beginnings” charm and I still look at that mfer with so much pride.

Wait, someone else is supposed to fill my stocking?! I don't want to even think how poorly this would turn out if left to dh or ds. I have filled my own stocking since I left home at 17. I'm very generous with myself. 😁 I get yummy chocolates, a piece of jewelry, craft supplies, a mazagine or two, many times a new scarf, fancy hand lotion, make-up samples, plus the usual candy filler like Christmas tree Reese, Hershey kisses, pillow mints, as well as a new lip balm, a toothbrush, and a pair of underwear. the bolded items are the things we got in our stockings as kids.
