I went to check out our newly renovated library and was pleasantly surprised for a new maker space. What a great energy! Included 3D printers, laser printers, sewing machines, a full Cricut setup, including the press for T-shirts (can't think of what it's called). I started to learn 3D printing and the filament is free to use. Many laptops and a huge Surface Pro is available to use with the software needed to run the machines. The folks that run the space are paid by the library and many have design backgrounds. Wouldn't that be a great job? It was so fun!

DH has used the library's 3d printer. It's a great resource.

I’ve used the library’s 3D printer, sometimes successfully and sometimes not. The only downside is that you have to wait a week to get your print. I think it’s a great community resource especially since they teach people how to use the equipment.

At ours, you sign up for the equipment (24 hour slots) and then pick it up when it's finished, usually next day. I'm working on printing miniature furniture.

Here they have certain days for adult makerspace and different days for teens. Or you can email your STL to the library and they will print it, but they have so many people having their stuff printed that it usually takes a week for the thing to get done. I love-love-LOVE having a 3D printer at home so I can print whatever I want whenever I want.

Our leadership feels libraries are outdated and that no one uses them anymore. There have been many, many arguments about this in various Facebook groups for the town. I sure wish they would put some money into a library with a cool maker space like this.

I'm getting a Cricut for Christmas. I only know this because Amazon delivered the package in a clearly marked box and I saw it as soon as it was delivered. I don't know if our library has a maker space, but if so, I would be interested in using a heat press since I don't have one of those. Could be very fun! Thanks for the insight.

Get a Cameo if you can exchange the Cricut. Cricut doesn’t allow you to export designs to be shared. Their customer support is sketchy as hell and they have shady business practices. I jumped the Cricut ship for Silhouette in 2017 and have never regretted it one moment.

What a great resource. I was just about to write that I didn't think we have the same set-up here in our libraries but what do you know we do! Nothing at my closest library but at the central library in the CBD there are 3d printers, sewing machines, computers with art and design software, music software, video editing software and more. No cricut or similar but I have my own Silhouette Cameo and craft set up at home.
