It drives me crazy when people say this. Where did it come from? Is there a good reason that people are saying that instead of "killed" or "died"? Do you use or like this word?

You can’t say certain words on certain social media platforms. People say “unalived” because words like “suicide,” “killed,” or “dead” can get your videos banned or mess up your view algorithms.
It’s like saying “fudge” when you mean “fuck.”
It’s not because people like this word or this it’s cute. It’s a censor issue.

i notice it mostly used in social media videos. i think is so their videos won't get red flagged and deleted or they get banned. i think "rope" is another one of those words.

I see it in social media comments sections. Would a censor pick that up if it wasn't in an actual post? I feel like I do still see people write dead or killed as well.

It's ridiculous that we have to self-censor for fear of losing our platforms for speech. Absolutely absurd.

Tik Tok will take your video down for the word "suicide" typically. They are probably the biggest platform right now.
Typically people won't use the word gun/guns either.

I’m mostly on instagram and they don’t seem to be strict about those words but that is where I see the word “unalived” used. I don’t know why it bothers me so much but it drives me crazy. Also, when people say “YT” (for white) people but I think that bothers me because it is usually made in a comment that is disrespectful.

The yt is also because of censoring issues by social media platforms. People don’t make separate posts for different platforms. They make one post and it goes to all their platforms, so just because you’re seeing it on Instagram, doesn’t mean it wasn’t originally a TikTok or whatever.

It can get very annoying. The one that irritates me the most is when people insert "allegedly, for educational purposes only" every few sentences.

White has to be yt when talking about race. You can’t say suicide or murder or kill. Vaccine is written as cupcake or 🧁. Comment jail is a thing. If too many comments are reported or flagged in a group, the group gets in trouble.

“Unalived” has got to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. We can kiss the first amendment goodbye. It has nothing to do with the 1st amendment, which applies only to government actions. Social media are privately owned businesses and can set their own parameters, whether we approve or not. Our 1st amendment rights are not under threat. (Except by D. Trump, who proposes prosecuting his political opponents.) 🙄 None of this means I don’t think “unalived” is the dumbest thing ever.

Tell me you don't know what the first amendment means and you just regurgitate republican propaganda without telling me you don't know what the first amendment means. ETA: I see I wasn't the first person to post this. Guess I should have read further.

I started to hear that word among the community about 3 or 4 years ago.
Many do not like to say my friend or my siblings or my parent died of suicide or committed suicide.
They rather say they unalived themselves
Honestly, if a person chooses to use specific language to make themselves feel better or others feel better so be it.
While yes certain words can cause you to be booted, others are choosing various language as they see fit for their needs.

"Unalived" is an example of algospeak, which is a coded language used on social media to avoid platforms deleting videos or banning accounts. Other examples include "corn" to replace *orn and "seggs" to replace *ex. I'm not sure if typing out these words will cause this post/site to show up on Google searches, but what I just did with the * could be considered another example of algospeak as I'm trying to keep this post under the radar, so to speak. Now, people not privy to the reason why I included * in those words might think it looks really silly, of course, but there's a valid reason why I did so.
As someone who does enjoy social media content, I get why algospeak is used, although I don't know why platforms couldn't just adjust the algorithm to search for those terms as well. I'm sure they must know how people are working around those barriers.

I have never heard the word 'unalived' before, but then my social media activity is limited to Facebook and the occasional viewing of an instructional or music YouTube video.
I imagine that eventually, the censors will catch on and prohibit this word, too.

Not from this code word work around issue, but the Twitter Files have shown us that our 1st amendment rights ARE under threat from the Biden administration trying to control what can be said and what we can know through social media. Proposes to?! It IS being done to Biden's biggest political opponent, right now.

As opposed to his plans for punishing everyone who opposes him … media, politicians, protestors … for the mere fact of opposing him. As I’m sure you’re aware, that’s not how our system works. And please quit harping on that idiot Elon’s overblown “Twitter files.” There is no there there. The government asking social media to monitor/remove dangerous, misleading, false information during an out-of-control pandemic is hardly the same as running roughshod over the 1st amendment. and my usual disclaimer: I’m not going around in the usual circles with you. Have at it, but I’ve said my piece and I’m done here.

They did not remove false information, they removed/banned/suspended people from discussing things that actually turned out to be true but they didn't even want it to be discussed. That is outright 1st Ammendment trampling.
