We host Christmas Day dinner. For dessert, I've done pies and Christmas tree themed cakes in the past. I'd like to do something different (for dessert), but special. However, my family is picky in that they don't like a lot of unusual ingredients and I don't want to spend a ton of time making desserts. So, what are you going to serve? Thanks for the ideas!

I’d do a nice chocolate mousse in fancy glasses, or maybe a Creme brûlée. I’m trying to think of what topping or fruit would be great to compliment the brûlée. Oranges, blackberries and strawberries are my favorite, but not very Christmassy.

Red velvet pound cake with cream cheese icing. Classic, basic ingredients, easy to make. Do a pourable cream cheese and make it even easier to add icing.

How about brownies with peppermint ice cream on top? You could add a mini candy cane as a garnish

A chocolate rolled cake and decorated like a yule log.
I use fruit roll-ups (red & green) to make a poinsettia flower on a yule log. Easy and cheap to do. Use orange/yellow for the flower centers.
Cream puffs can be made ahead.

I'm doing a dessert charcuterie board. The just look so festive and people can nibble as they like.

We are hosting Christmas lunch too. Normally I would do a lemon meringue pie, but they are a lot of work, especially making the pastry. This year I am thinking about making a wreath, and I have narrowed it down to these options: Lamington Wreath with Berry Cream - I have made this before and it is super easy and looks great. I doubt that you have lamingtons there though, do you? Easy Choc Ripple Wreath - You probably don't have Choc Ripple biscuits (cookies) there, but I'm sure you could find a different kind of cookie to use for this. The good thing about this one is that you make it a day ahead, so give time for the biscuits/cookies to soften to a cake-like texture. And you can decorate however you want. Berry Pavlova Wreath - I have made this one before, and added a few green things to it to make it look more Christmassy. It's a bit more fiddly, but you can make the pavlova the day before, and dress it on the day.

I'm doing a dessert charcuterie board. The just look so festive and people can nibble as they like. Last year at my work Christmas party, my coworker who is a fantastic cook/baker made a buttercream board. OMG. It was so good! She made a fancy design in the middle of the board using a Wilton fancy tip to pipe the buttercream, then she had all kinds of things to dip in it. It was the hit of our party. I am going to try to make a yule log this year. I've never done anything like that, so we shall see how it turns out.

My most favorite Christmas dessert is Red Velvet Cake made from scratch. Store bought just does not taste the same. Served with vanilla ice cream.
2nd is German Chocolate Cake also made from scratch. Next runner up is Pecan Pie.
I would be happy with just cookies and other goodies people make during the holiday; toffee, caramels, frosted sugar cookies, Russian Tea Cakes, Magic Bars, Almond Bark Bars/Cookies.

I typically make a chocolate eclair cake. My mom would make what we call Company Cake. It’s a yellow cake mix with manderine oranges. It’s a 3 layer cake. The frosting is cool whip, French vanilla pudding mix and crushed pineapples. For Christmas, she’d add red and green cherries on top.

We either order pies from an amazing local pie shop or some years, I serve Christmas cookies- the holiday has to fall just right for me to do that- I need a weekend fairly close to the holiday, but not to have the holiday be on the weekend. Next year, I think can be a cookie year

I use fruit roll ups to decorate things at Christmas. Red flavoured things become poinsettia leaves on a yule log and the green ones are leaves. Yellow /orange become some berries.

I love to make a peppermint ice cream dessert - Oreo crust in 9x13 pan, peppermint ice cream spread on top of Oreos, thin layer of chocolate syrup, freeze for a few hours, then top with Cool Whip and sprinkle crushed Oreos and/or crushed candy canes on top.

We do from scratch hamburgers, fries, and milkshakes for Christmas dinner. The milkshake is basically the dessert. But, in years past, we've also done ice cream sundaes.

Oranges, blackberries and strawberries are my favorite, but not very Christmassy. I think a sprig of red currants with some thinly sliced orange would be lovely! Crème brûlée is one of my favourite desserts.

I was thinking individual pavlovas with berries but a wreath would be super cute. Hmmm, a wreath made from individual / mini pavlovas..... good thinking 99! Very easy if you use store-bought pavlova cases.

Key Lime Pie with homemade graham cracker crust, with whipped cream available for those who like it. If I have time I make them in small individual size. Always a hit!

Last year, I bought a cheesecake from Costco. I then made a cherry compote to serve with it, flavored with amaretto. It was a huge hit and so easy for me. I don’t eat dairy, so I had some of the compote over DF ice cream.

DH is smoking a brisket for Christmas and we'll do mac and cheese and coleslaw with that, along with rolls. IDK for dessert that goes with that. Maybe banana pudding? DH also loves a cherry pie. Or I have these cute individual dessert ramekins that work great for individual apple crisps.

I love the brownies with peppermint ice cream idea! My other thought is to make my new favorite thing - this Crustless Cranberry Pie. A friend brought it to our house to share a month ago, and since that time, I've made it twice (one for us, one to share for Thanksgiving), and DS has made it twice (one to take to his friends Thanksgiving and one for his cousins) Everyone has loved it, including DH, who usually doesn't eat desserts or cranberries - so that's saying something. (We make it without the nuts because I would be the only one eating it if it had nuts, but YMMV.) Also, it's a simple one-bowl recipe!

I usually make a Christmas pudding, served with custard and/or ice cream. But we don't have it for dessert after our Christmas dinner. We do the full on roast bird (duck, goose or turkey, depending on numbers and availability) with all the trimmings for lunch, then we rest for the afternoon and the pudding is our dinner/dessert around 7pm. Last year, we were all at my sister's house, about 20 of us in total. We had a Christmas pudding, mini pavlova cases with whipped cream and various fruits and other topping for DIY pavlovas, and my DDiL made a wreath dessert, similar to those AussieMeg posted. And yes, we had FAR TOO MUCH food!
