My kids are 15 and 19 and when they were tiny I remember some Peas talking about how they let their kids have free reign to open their stockings on Christmas morning to give mom and dad a little extra sleep.
Then a few years later other Peas talked about how they wrap everything in the stocking. I did it one year and my boys loved it.
Anyway even though my boys are older, those two traditions live on. In fact I’ve been asked by both kids separately if I’m wrapping all the stocking stuffers!
Anyone else have any traditions from the Peas?

My only pea related holiday tradition, is to re-read the infamous threads from years past. "The turkey pick up place was closed on Thanksgiving" (as well as other threads).......is a pea classic.

I had not heard about wrapping stocking gifts until 2peas but I have not implemented that. Our stocking gifts are usually really small, like lip gloss or chocolates, so it doesn’t make sense to wrap those but I’ll bet the kids would enjoy unwrapping them.
I’ve picked up a lot of things from the peas over the years but not necessarily holiday traditions

Haven’t added any new traditions but I do always like to see what gifts everyone is giving or getting for themselves including stocking stuffers. I have bought based on the peas.

I have always wrapped everything in the stockings and so did my mom. It wouldn’t occur to me not to do it and I didn’t realize some people don’t wrap stocking gifts. The only thing I didn’t wrap was the money in the toe. That was just folded like a fan with a ribbon around it. We had several traditions but not that I got from here. Gift ideas, yes, but not traditions.

Not sure if it was on here or Facebook but on Christmas Eve everyone gets a book, and I try to make everyone sit down for an hour to read, and there is chocolate. It's an Iceland tradition, but I'm not from Iceland, just like books...
This year everyone is getting a personalized (homemade) coffee mug, and the chocolate will include cocoa.
I don't wrap all the stocking gifts... when the kids were little DH insisted all the gifts except one were from Santa, and he uses different wrapping paper than I do, so that is enough wrapping for me!

Some things we’ve been doing so long- but I’ve also been a pea so long (24 years!) I kind of forget but these are ones I can think of:
Pickle ornament - I bought one after reading it here and every Christmas Eve the girls are timed to see who can find it first and they open the first gift
Appetizers for Christmas Eve dinner
And now doing a December daily scrapbook last year and this year
Will come back to add as reading others will probably jog my memory!

Oh appetizers for us on Christmas Eve too. I’m fairly certain that one came from the Peas for me. I’ve also been a Pea for about 24 years before I was married or had kids, so it’s hard to pin point for sure.

We open stockings first, then presents. When my kids were younger (and believed in S.) I wrapped DS's stocking and presents in 1 paper and DD's in a different one. They knew which was their stocking and saw the paper and were able to match it to their presents. We did stockings from Santa when they were younger. Since then, I still wrap them, but usually use the left over pieces from wrapping everything else so that I can save paper. This year, for the first time in years, I wrapped all DD's in 1 paper, DS's in another, DH's in a third and DS's gf in a 4th.

I’ve done the appetizers for Christmas Eve dinner a few times and that was a big hit!
I’ve never wrapped the stocking gifts though. I think I’m so burnt out on wrapping by the time I get to the stockings that I just throw everything in unwrapped and call it good!

I've never seen anyone get money in their stocking, but that's such a fun way to give it. I guess my grandmother put a dollar in the toe of Mom’s stocking and Mom just carried it on with us. Something about buying anything she missed in filling the stocking maybe? I don’t know how far back it goes or how widespread the tradition is or even how it was ever started. I started out with the dollar and graduated to higher increments as my son got older. I think a large part of the excitement for him was in seeing if he got a raise. Surely we weren’t the only family doing this?

I twisted the stocking free for all and book gift. All our bedrooms are on the second floor. I have a small table top tree and Santa always leaves a couple of presents under it. They are usually books and art supplies. The kids can open them when they get up but can't go downstairs until we say. Kids are teens now and still enjoy their books.

My family is all about Squillens Sugar Cookies. Every year we make the dough and wait til the next day to roll it out and then bake it. The decorating of the cookies has gotten competitive (and that is very loosely stated). We pick the favorite cookie that we designed and then have it voted on (usually my son throws it out to his friends on Instagram) and one of us gets bragging rights.
The first year I complained nonstop about how messy the job was with rolling it out and getting out the icings. Little did I know that we would have the best time, and the most laughs. It is always a highlight!
