Our stockings were 21 years old. I did them ds' 1st Christmas. They were red satin. I got them at Michael's. At that time, I got some Christmas sequined appliques. Loved them. Our names were green felt I cut out, hot glued and outlined in gold glitter. Well over the years, the appliques started falling off. I lost a few and still have some that are loose. I can't find the same ones or similar to replace them. So I started looking for new stockings a couple of years ago. I am super picky. I never could find exactly what I wanted. This year, I found some plain red linen ones. I got some small white letters to hang around the loop for our initials. After Christmas, I will get our names embroidered on them. But that leaves the body of them. I would love to see some of what you have. What is on your stockings?

Our families original 4 stockings were felt pattern kits from Bucilla. When we got a dog I made my own from felt. And since then I just make them from felt.

I crossed-stitched stockings for DH & my two boys. They are all different, but all have Santa. Mine is a Boyds Bear stocking that DH bought for me. I recently thought about making myself a stocking just for something different. I love how theirs all turned out, despite the fact that they are really small because I picked a fabric I liked without considering the overall size.
My mom still has our stockings that she made for us as babies. All of the grandkids also have one. She made them all out of felt & sequins using kits.

My dd's have huge stockings ... what were we thinking? They are 24 and 20 now but still get filled to overflowing ... Emma's is velvet and Molly's is faux fur ... the name tags are from Etsy and were just added last year! Mine I have had all my life ... from a department store in the 60's. I added "Grandma" to a Michaels stocking years ago ...

I have several sets of stocking… I guess you could say I’m a collector of Christmas!! 😂
This year I am using cream colored knit ones. I have 7 hanging on my mantle.

In our house- my stocking is from the 70’s, and I display my brother and sisters (78 and 80… 1978 and 1980! Lol) they were made by a friend of my grandmother when we were each born. For years, she had them, then she passed them to us, individually. My “Christmas storage” situation is more secure, so they made their way back to me. I guard them with my life.
My son’s stocking is a “beautiful” ( to me) appliqué, beadwork, embroidery, felting disaster that I slaved over for the months leading up to Christmas. He has had it every year since he was born.
I have many many other stockings. Decorative. For pets, pets we have and love, and, pets we loved and miss dearly. For people that were here for a season, and people that are gone for a reason lol I don’t put up stockings for people that have passed or won’t be visiting on Christmas or the days leading up to New Year. But I have their stockings. Just for them.
I think a stocking at a relatives house is a lot like a name. We don’t get to choose it, but it feels personal and very sentimental. None of our stockings match except mine and my bother and sisters. They haven’t been up, together, since 2013.

My mom made ours back in the 70s out of red, green and white felt with pinked edges with her special pinking shears that I was not allowed to use. Names were written with glue and then loads of glitter dumped on top. As my siblings and I married and grandchildren came along she created new stockings. I still have all those but since stockings became the highlight of our Christmas and we tended to overfill those ones we moved to a much larger store bought version a few years ago and I used my silhouette to add names. They are not great quality and have started to fray from us jamming them full so I think next year I will make new, larger felt versions.
The original felt versions that my mom made had thin felt images that had been removed from our store bought stockings, mine was an angel and my brothers had an elf and I believe a snowman. When she made the additional stockings as the family grew there weren’t any images added, just plain.

I started ours when we were first married - I was heavy into cross stitch then. I had visions of making them for each child and then spouses and grandchildren. DS was 2 before his was done 😂😂 Middle DD has a fella that will be a permanent fixture soon (he’s told us but is asking on their trip in March) so I figured he needed one. I have the kit, it is started, but it may be a while it is slow going! But here are ours:

cakediva I'm impressed with your collection! I made the same ones you have on the far right and far left for my niece and nephew. That was before my kids came along (who have store bought stockings 'cause cross stitch takes forever!).

Found a lovely Ugg stocking at Kohl’s. Didn’t buy it, because there are enough stockings for all of us. It was dumb.
Anyway, most of our stockings are velvetish. If I remember correctly, we had purchased the first 3 for our first Christmas. One for the dog, you know. When Jay was born, he was given a more plush stocking. I think Griff (dog) was given a red “quilted” one.
The cats ended up with a kitty related stocking and an initialed, knit stocking. The new puppy inherited Girlie’s stocking.
All but Puppy has an initial ornament to designate whose stocking it is. I can’t find an initial for puppy. Etsy is the plan. Unless I try salt dough.

Dh and I bought stockings at target our first Christmas together. Basic blue thick felt with a white cuff and our first initial.
When we had DD, I made deep red wide wale corduroy lined with green fabric ones for us with a cream polar fleece cuff a deep green hang loop and a deep green initial. I knew we would have a 2nd kid so I cut out a 4th stocking and did all but the initial on it. DS came along and I finished his. We have 4 matching stockings hanging. That is literally ALL that matches in our house 😂
This past summer my mom started cleaning out stuff to move and I got all of my ornaments and my stocking that my nana made me. Felt, name embroidered, sequins broken and falling off. I treasure it and it will be neatly stored with my special things.

Dh and I use these quilted ones I made when we got married. Our names are written with paint. Ds picked up a needlepoint type stocking at Tuesday Morning a few weeks before his first Christmas. First we nearly walked out of the store with it, and then when I tried to take if from he wouldn't let go. So I bought it for him. 😂
I still have my Santa Mouse stocking from when I was a kid. It has my name embroidered on it.
My mom has a felt stocking with appliques and sequins on it that her mom made for her when my mom was a kid. When my mom married my stepdad - best dad ever - I made him a stocking to match my mom's.

Growing up, my aunt made all of our stockings as each of us were born. Only the kids had them and they were all different. My older siblings took theirs as they moved out but me and my two brothers were still living at home when my mom had the roof redone, rain got into the attic, stuff got wet and the bag they were in was likely thrown away. Mine was white felt with red candy cane trim and beaded felt appliqués of a little girl with blonde hair and I think a dog.
When DH and I bought our first house, I made us each a red plush stocking with a longer white fur cuff. I made mine normal sized and his was huge, LOL. It was kind of a joke but we’ve used them ever since. When DD was born, I made her a beautiful pink plush stocking with a white fur cuff, with all custom designed, hand beaded felt appliqués of snowflakes, a cute snowman, decorated Christmas trees, etc. and with her name in script cut from felt, beaded and sewn to the cuff. The first year we lived in this house she was two. We had the stockings hanging from the gas fireplace mantel. It’s on a thermostat so when the room gets cold it turns itself up if it’s left on. It got cold that night, DH didn’t turn it off so it turned on when the room got cold. DD’s stocking got horribly scorched from the heat. 😭 While I was really sad that it was completely destroyed, I was glad that it didn’t start the house on fire. 😧 DH’s and mine were further away from the middle of the fireplace so they survived, but the polyester thread they were sewed with kind of melted and shrunk around the toes.
After that happened, I planned to remake it but in the meantime I took her to the store to pick out another one. She chose a cheap pink satin Hello Kitty stocking from Hobby Lobby and that’s what she’s been using ever since.
