The biggest hit was the Apple watch I got DH. He was surprised and immediately set it up. My parents loved the digital picture frame my brother and I gifted them.
The gift I most enjoyed giving and seeing the reaction was telling the grandkids we are all going on vacation next summer. We have rented a house on the lake my parents live on. Everyone loves going down there but it is rare that we all go at the same time. The 7 year old DGS must have told me ten times how he can't wait to go.

My husband built me a custom makeup vanity/organizer for our bathroom! It is amazing and stores all of my makeup perfectly. I was so surprised. 🤩 The mirror swings out and is lighted, and he installed a new multi-outlet, as well. It was a great gift! My youngest son gave me roses. The kids all loved their gifts and we didn’t have any real misses this year.

Hits for me: Le Creuset Everyday Pan, Staub wooden/silicon spoon and spatula, KC Chiefs tire valve covers. Misses for me: 72 count Prismacolor Colored Pencils. I was excited to try them with stamped images. I don't want to use Gamsol and was not happy with the way the colored/shaded/blended. So I gave them to DD who uses them to draw and color.

I hate to have to give a list, it ruins the anticipation and surprise. DH totally surprised me! I like to watch reels/shorts, especially if people making things. I showed DH one months ago of a guy making cutting boards with 3D optical illusions. I did not expect him to buy one for me, I love it.
I surprised DH with a new Arabic-English dictionary. His original one is falling apart and over 40 years old. He was so surprised and immediately looked up something that is new to Arabic and isn't in his old dictionary.
DS we gave F1 models cars that were only available from Costco. We told him they didn't have them at ours, they've been in my closet since summer. He was really surprised.

Dinner was a hit. I didn't make turkey since we were only three; but the chicken was DELICIOUS and so easy to carve. Prepping the bird the night before and leaving it in the fridge to dry out the skin really does make a difference. I won't be making turkey anymore! Sharing the duties with a friend and buying our desserts (which we always do) from a local French bakery made meal prep/serving/clean up so much easier.
We had agreed that there would be no gifts this year since we were traveling up until the 20th...however, hubby never listens and so I ended up with a book and a couple of shirts. I gifted my kids $$$ which we know is always a hit; hubby also sent them gift cards to restaurants they would NEVER afford on their current salaries.

I think we had a nice set of hits this year. We really just buy for our family of 4 + 1 set of cousins and all kids are 18 and older. I got suggestions for everyone and pretty much followed those, except my son and husband (who does not want any gifts). I was able to come up with some good stuff for my son - clothes, stuff for college next year and a few practical things for his room + GCs he seemed to like and went off the list for my daughter who was thrilled. Both kids loved getting some old school candy in their stockings and some nice bath/personal items. I made husband a scrapbook of his recent guys hiking trip and he seemed super content with it. He enlisted our kids and got me a number of thoughtful gifts. Our kids continued the tradition of making gifts/writing us notes which I 100% love since we don't need anything. Honestly, we are at the point that what I want most is for everyone to be together and be mentally and physically present which we got .

I griped about the huge miss from my husband, but I had some hits. My college aged daughter got a pair of Salmon Sister Xtratuf clogs and she is currently wearing them as she runs errands. I thought there was an equal chance that she would like them/hate them and on this rainy day in Minnesota she loves them. I have a pair and think they are so useful. That one surprised me.
I got my older daughter a Dutch oven and she used it to make soup already. She loves it. My son-in-law liked the gray Sperry sneakers I got him. I have been helping him a build a versatile casual sneaker collection and he was glad to add another color to collection. When he opened it he told me all the other colors that he has and said that he loved them. I believe him.
We gave a Folkmanis ground hog puppet to my 8 month old grandson. We had to do a FaceTime gift opening with them since they live in CA. He was giggling every time his mom made it talk to him. My other daughter and I have talked about getting him good puppets rather than stuffed animals and this showed that it is a good idea.

At work for some reason one of the nurses got all the staff (there are 6 of us) in our area a stuffed gnome. Except for me. And she didn't forget to give it to me as I was there when she was giving them to the others. I was telling DD the story while we were out shopping. So what did I unwrap on Christmas day? DD got me a stuffed gnome! And it's way cuter.

The gifts for the boys were mostly hits. DS15's Santa gift was almost a miss because it took forever to ship (a robot coming from China), but I decided to print a picture of it and put it in a box with a 3lb bag of Lifesaver mints so he had something to open. DS18 was happy to get his own XBox to take back to college with him, and was happy to get a cooler and a fishing tackle bag.
The weather and my inlaws were big misses--we ended up having to come home early to avoid getting snowed-in in Nebraska and MIL kept asking when we were planning leave and did we want breakfast or lunch before leaving, when we hadn't even decided if we were leaving early...I started getting snippy with her.

lisae that is stunning and I bet your friend was thrilled! I would have been too. ellen NOT ok and I would have been pissed right there with you. I too have a DH who is not a gifter, took me a lot of years to get him to understand you need to but some thought into this or you're going to wind up with a ticked off wife.

I bought him a floor lamp with a remote and app that he can change the colors on and he loved it! Can you post a link? This sounds like something my DS might like and I've now got to swing into birthday mode for him.

My daughter ordered a lamp for me and her fiancé printed up a picture of it that says "Coupon for one fancy lamp you want from a fancy store that you like. It's out of stock so maybe try mid-february."

One of the biggest hits was a last-minute gift for the 3-1/2 year old grandson. A (former?) pea recommended the magnetic building tiles in a Facebook post. I ordered a set she endorsed from Amazon, and they were a wow for the child and for many of us adults, too! We took turns sitting on the floor with him building for long periods of time.
Side note, her IRL name is April. Four kids. Texas. And I can't for the dang life of me remember what her peaname was/is. She's not active here anymore to the best of my knowledge.

The biggest hit was a record player for my mother. The backstory is that we moved her in with me and DH earlier this year because she could no longer care for her home and herself. She had to purge a lot of her things because space is tight in my home. I convinced her to keep all of her vinyl albums because record players are "back in style". We hadn't had not made time to get her one, so my oldest DD got one for her. She was brought to tears and had us all blubbering with her because now she can listen to all of her old records.

craftedbys said DS bought me the Lego Up house . I can't wait to put it together and put it in my new craft room. ❤️❤️❤️ Ditto. That was another gift from my DS I got too. I love it! The mcnugget was just more unexpected and well, I didn't know it existed. lisae that quilt is GORGEOUS regardless of season or reason for gift giving. "Just because" is one of my favorite reasons. lisacharlotte I too, in my own perfect world, would like gifts to be a surprise (sans actual wish lists). I love the giving and getting that way but understand that some have a hard time without a actual list. I been told I'm a good gift giver but probably only because I remember when some mentions a like and when I see something applicable, it reminds me of a person. I may or may not buy Christmas gifts all year round when the thing shows itself.

It was a good season but not the best day.
My gifts were near-hits (hit-adjacent?) but not quite misses, either, I guess. I could see the reasoning behind them, anyways. My son got me a Tervis with my alma mater on it which was nice but I already have several other cups like that & I'm not someone who has or wears things with my alma mater. My enby got me several large hair clips but with my hair thinning and falling out, they are all too big and unusable. My husband did purchase the two things I asked for but also got me two very similar rings to a ring I already have & wear every day, a lot of candy which is delicious but I can't eat much of anymore due to the medications I'm on, four pastel-colored bowls (?), and a jewelry organizer insert that is too wide for any of the drawers or cabinets in our bathroom or bedroom.
My immediate family insists that all the adults/family groups have to buy gifts for all of the other adults so that's just a grin-and-bear-it experience for me. My family bought me clothes that are either not my style and/or the wrong size, a blank scrapbook that I had to give back to my mother so she can scrapbook my wedding despite telling her that I didn't need one, a gift card to a store that I don't go to, a generic ornament, and a purse that's nice enough but not something that I would necessarily use.
There is also not one single photo of me at either our house or during my family's Christmas gathering besides the selfie that I took of the four of us. I am the official photographer for the four of us and the unofficial photographer for my immediate family so there are several photos (or more) of everyone else from yesterday.
My husband is usually a good gift giver and pretty conscientious about taking photos of me so I was doubly disappointed in yesterday.

My DH tried but….
I am a hard size and really have trouble buying clothes.
I have RA and it is really difficult to walk through a store like Macys trying stuff on in every dept( cause you can’t just to to the black pant dept lol)
I had been complaining about not having anything nice to wear so he went to Macys and get help from a personal shopper
The White (!!!) pants are 2 sizes too small . The blouse is a beautiful color but too large and definitely not my style
I think it is a plus because he tried

A couple of months ago, DSO suggested that we both get watches for Christmas (Apple for me and Samsung for him). Then he changed his mind about wanting a watch, because it would just get damaged at work. Then I said that I didn't want one either, because it was too expensive and we had just spent a shit-ton of money on new lounge room furniture. I opened my present from him on Christmas morning, and he bought me an Apple Watch anyway. I am very happy with it.

DH smashed it out of the park. DS shook with delight as he got an original nintendo64, and dd got everything she wanted including a sweater that sold out that we kept teasing we’d missed out on. Misses: - work secret Santa I got a box of fruit loops (cereal) and a poo emoji pillow. Apparently I’m a crazy shit. Trying not to find it incredibly insulting and so happy I wasn’t working the day everyone opened the gifts as I can’t fake happiness for that one. - sister one got me an origami desk calendar. Combined with not even sending me a text for my 40th birthday this year and I’m done. Desk calendars with no thought it is from now on. It was that good as I was opening it my daughter said “that’s a crap present.” Yes, yes it is. - sister two got me a piece of paper with a picture on it and a typed message that my gift was at the post office which is shut so she’ll get it to me later. She asked me what I wanted in September and had four months to get it delivered to have it for Christmas. Insult to injury, everyone else in the family got gushing notes about how amazing and appreciated they are, mine was a gripe about the postal service. Oh yeah, and she had time to organise a friends trip and spend two hours in line for groceries for said trip on Christmas Eve. Because that’s a higher priority.
Bah humbug, petty me next year is going to get crap they’ll hate and definitely no gift cards or anything that they like 😇 Or maybe I’ll just let them know I won’t be buying them anything and expect the same (ie nothing) from them. I’d rather nothing than that pile of ^£#*#¥

I’m pretty pissed about what my husband got me for Christmas - a very generic type of lavender scented bath products. Just some crap he ordered from Amazon. I have been struggling with my hands and feet since this summer. Earlier this month I saw a dermatologist and am being treated for a specific type of psoriasis that is difficult to treat. I am currently trying to accept that I am going to need to take a medication that is likely to help, but it is a pretty strong med that will likely have some strong side effects. My husband knows that I have a collection of products that are recommended by my dermatologist. He’s annoyed that I’m pissed, but I said he is going to fix this. I refuse to accept such a thoughtless gift. We’re not poor and this was the best he could do. He just doesn’t care if I get a nice gift or not. He just wants me to have something to open so that he can say he did his job. Now and then he does a good job. I have hobbies. I have favorite stores. I like clothes. I like makeup. I like a new pair of pajamas, slippers, or a hoodie like everyone else. He gave me something I should not use because he can’t be bothered to leave the house or spend more than 10 minutes of shopping online for me. I got him something he needs but wouldn’t buy for himself - a reflector jacket and a tv antenna so that he can watch the local news. We cut our cable and that is the only thing he misses. He’s out in the living room watching the news right now and I am in bed bitching about him on the internet. Vent away. That is really hurtful when someone puts no thought into It. I try to be very thoughtful and literally spend so much time Throughout the year thinking of what to get people. My DH not so much, this year I gave him an Amazon wish list and although I knew most of what I would get I didn’t feel disappointed in the day. There is a couple years he had built me furniture and knocked it out of the park but most of the time he struggles on what to get people. Biggest two hits for me were getting DH a wood fired pizza oven, we ended up having pizza for Christmas dinner. So good. I also sourced out his favorite Scottish scotch that you can’t buy in Canada but I contacted a whiskey specialty shop in another province and they hooked me up. Cost me a lot in shipping but he loved it and couldn’t believe I was able to get it. 2nd was my 20 yr old DD. She has recently been getting into sewing and wants to start quilting. My granny was a huge quilter, sadly she passed away about 7 years ago. My granny’s sewing machine was left with one of my aunts but she hadn’t been using it so she let me have it to gift to my DD. We had it serviced and bought a new case for it. She was ecstatic.

I was married to a jeweler for many years. You can’t believe how many men would show up at our home on Dec 23 or 24 to pick up literally anything he might have available to buy for the women in their lives. Such a lack of consideration.
