This morning my coffee maker peed an entire carafe of coffee all over my counter, down the cupboards and into a drawer. Then we went to IKEA, where for the 3rd time in a week, my back has decided it hates shopping. Their carts usually hurt my knees (they go sideways as well as forward and backward) so I made DH push the cart, so I'm not sure why my back decided to have issues... Then we bought to-go breakfast sandwiches, where I had three of the same sandwich in my order, and mine came without the cheese... We are having fondue for lunch (at home) so hopefully I don't pour scalding cheese sauce all over myself or something... How is your last day of the year going?

Still early-ish here. We had planned to take down the outside lights today but I don’t know if the weather is going to cooperate (rainy). Going out to lunch soon, and not much else planned. Want to clean out my craft room, slow going.
Happy New Year everyone!!

So far so good. Used my Christmas gift to me from me Roomba and that went well. For lunch had leftovers from yesterday — something I had been craving — fried potatoes, pinto beans and cowboy cornbread. Going to take a long pampering shower soon and then plan to resume reading Your Table is Ready. Doubtful I will be awake to welcome the new year but would enjoy kicking out 2023! Happy New Year to all!

It is 12:12 and I haven't gotten out of bed yet. I plan on working in my bedroom to clean, organize, and purge...
Or I may do absolutely nothing

I know I won’t be up for west coast new years.
Today I’m learning how to use my phone with laser software because when I go back to school in a week. I’m teaching a class where my kids will be using their phones with the laser. So far it’s proving to be difficult. Not impossible but a bit fiddly. I’m used to using the computer which is sooooo easy.

DH and I went out for lunch this afternoon. I wasn’t very hungry so I only ordered a plate of fries. The waitress brought out DH’s order but not mine. She came back a few minutes later and said the cook didn’t read the order correctly and didn’t put my fries in. She said the fries would be right out. A few minutes later she brought the fries out (DH was already done eating). I put one in my mouth and it was hard. I think the cook tried to get them out to me quickly but I would have preferred them to be cooked. I sent them back and said not to bother with the order.

I have "end of the year" things that I do every year. I like to go into the new year fresh and clean, and everything done and ready....... to start off the new year.
Yesterday: Filled gas tank. Got a fancy dessert(Marie Callender individual sized chocolate satin pie) for tonight. In the freezer section at grocery store. Got take out (Raising Cane's) for tonight (will re-heat it later). Paid the last of the January bills, so January is all paid. Freezer is full of "ready to be heated" food-prep meals, and cupboards and fridge stocked with groceries and supplies.
Today: Home is clean. Laundry is done. Will be changing bed linens in a little bit. About 8:00pm-9:00pm, will doing a facial hair removal, eyebrow maintenance, face mask .... then a shower with leg shaving, foot scrubbing.

I have had a TERRIBLE last few days—got my Covid booster, and per usual, was VERY sick. Chills, fever, headache, body ache, throwing up, stuff coming out the other end, too…. NOT FUN!
But I feel much better today. I’m going to watch the Chiefs game (not happy with them) with my brother. My sister in law was supposed to be home from New Zealand today, but her flight was cancelled. Snuggling with my dogs (it’s a little dreary).
Best thing…I still have one more week of vacation!

It's been a beautiful day here -- 50 degrees and sunny. No wind, either. I have been piddling around the house today. I touched up some paint in my foyer that got scratched, ran the robo vac, cleaned out the fridge. Nothing super hard but things that just needed to be done.
We are going to dinner tonight with friends and then having drinks at our man cave. Should be a nice evening.

We had planned to sleep in a bit but the dog at the door making urping noises got me out of bed super quick! We decided to just get up and have a lazy morning. I made breakfast sandwiches and then we all (me, husband, and 22 y/o) played cards at the breakfast table. Later my husband and I went to the grocery store. I did a few chores at home including polishing some silver while my husband vacuumed the house - he thinks he's much better at that that I am, so I encourage him to prove that superiority as often as he likes (ha!). We watched a couple episodes of "Reacher" then knocked out a few more chores. Now he's prepping dinner while I'm drinking wine and peaing. Can't complain about this day at all so far.

My Ravens demolished the Dolphins today to lockup the #1 seed and home field for the playoffs. I couldn’t ask for a better way to end 2023.

So my plans for the rest of the day got thrown off by getting home hours later than planned, but I got up early and we headed to the British store. DH got the idea for a caterpillar cake for me for my birthday at we saw it on the Baking Show. We'd never seen it heard of it but they referred to it as "iconic" and now I want one!
They didn't have one, but I got some Cadbury Swiss rolls and other things I've heard of but never seen. I now know what a Parma violet tastes like (not unpleasant, very perfumey, a bit like eating a sweet bath cube I guess) and what a Bakewell tart tastes like. Very sweet, not bad but more sugar than I should have at one time!
Our pork pies and apple tarts are in the oven and I'm going to try, and probably not like, the Heinz potato leek soup in a can.
We had lunch at a Cuban restaurant that has the best hand-made (with fresh squeezed lime) mojitos that I have ever had. I had pork and tamales. So so good.
Then we went to an antiques store and I got a majolica cat for the mantle, a creepy porcelain doll, and an antique fox fur collar for my jacket and my neck has never been so warm in my life. I wouldn't buy new fur but I will wear this.
Today I weighed myself and was down a pound without trying. I haven't had hot flashes since starting the Mounjaro. I'll be 52 after midnight. I'm leaving for Key West in a few days.
Life is still pretty grand!

Things are not looking good for the home team.
I have been feeling tired and run down since Wednesday and kind of achy. I kept taking my temperature, but it was always normal.
By Friday, I had a bit of congestion, and I spent yesterday sneezing. I have never sneezed so much in my life. I am talking 4 or 5 times in a row every few minutes. None of the medicines were helping, and my head felt like it was filled with concrete, but my nose was running like a faucet .
I made an offhand comment that I hadn't had this much sinus issues either time I had covid.
I decided to take a home test last night (was not expired) and it was negative.
This morning, I realized that I really couldn't taste anything and my thought was that 2023 wanted to give me one final kick in the ass on its way out.
So I am staying away from everyone and going to ring in the new year by playing Memphis's favorite game of Fireworks or Gunshots.

I dropped a lid on the floor, bent down to pick it up and stood up whacking my head on the granite overhang of my kitchen counter. I am better now, but it hurt.

amom23 - I am so sorry for your family's losses. That's a lot in such a short time. Sending hugs to you and wishing you a much happier New Year. Although we did have some happy times in 2023, we lost so many friends and acquaintances that this is one of those year ends where I just want to burn the calendar. Hoping everyone has a Happy and Healthy 2024!

I will mark 2023 as a crappy year. I had a brother, 3 cousins and my girlfriend of 58 years die. Additionally, our church minister revealed her true colors (after 3 years). I found her so repugnant that I no longer attend (I began attending there in 1981).

I had a fun December 31st with 15 Bantam hockey players and their families at a hockey tournament. They are a great group of boys.
