I was recently diagnosed with venous reflex in one leg . . . and it was recommended I wear compression socks.
I've tried a brand from Walmart, and Pacas. The Walmart brand are thin and OK in the comfort department. The Pacas were too large in the foot and ankle area (read no compression) and ended up being super uncomfortable in the calf. Supposed to be non-itchy . . . but not for me. I ordered the size that was supposed to accommodate my calf.
I wear a size 7 shoe and have always had wide calves, 14.25 inches.
Please give me recommendations for socks!

Dd wears them due to POTS for day to day wears Wellow, these are like traditional socks. She also has some more expensive thigh high that are more like tights, I can’t remember the brand off hand, but they are about $60-70. She went to a medical supply store for those and someone helped her get the right size and compression.

What strength compression does your doctor want you to wear? That will narrow down some of your options.
DH has to wear them due to a vein issue as well (they leak at the valves in his calves, I forget what that’s called, and he’s on blood thinners). His doctor wanted him wearing 20-30 mmhg. His favorite, by far, are the Bombas Performance Compression. They are so much softer and more comfortable than the thin ones. And due to the material, even though they’re thick he’s able to wear them any time of year.
Bombas also have a 15-20 mmhg range called Everyday Compression. Bo boas are comparatively expensive, but well worth it. You can get 20% off if you sign up for emails. (Use a junk email account to help with digital decluttering!)

I am a runner and wear ProCompression. Love them for recovery, and for wearing on flights. I find them comfortable, plus they come in fun colors and patterns. They are always having specials so don’t pay full price for them. They usually end up around $20 a pair.

Dh and dd wear Viasox and love them! Dh wears the diabetic ones (light compression) and dd wears the same. She has issues with higher compression and swelling. Why we had to ditch AFOs. Anyways the light compression helps with her Dysautonomia and POTS.

I knew Peas would be able to give me some good ideas of where to start. Off to do some shopping. Know that I live in more rural northern Minnesota I am becoming very practiced at shopping online and knowing how to return what doesn't work. Happy Returns is a wonderful concept BTW!

Did they give you a prescription that tells you the strength? Is there a drugstore in your area that specializes in diabetic supplies. If so, they may carry socks you could check out in person without having to order.

Also, just in case you didn't know, there are compression socks that only go from the ankle to the knee. I can't stand to have my feet in socks or toes covered so I wear those. LOVE them. Free feet!

Thanks again all! The doctor recommended the lighter compression level, and did not give me a prescription. The visit was part of an Urgent Care visit. He did check for a blood clot as that was the concern. The other concern was an ongoing infection in my great toe--not an ingrown toenail, but further up the toe along the nail bed. One of those "where did this come from" infections. I think that the infection was exacerbated by poor circulation. My left leg is the one that has over the years sustained more injuries--bunion surgery, three different knee injuries over my life time--non needing surgery. Patter thanks for the heads up as I was wondering what I will do in the summer! What brand do you suggest?

I have swelling from time to time and I used these on an overseas flight in the fall. They were not uncomfortable at all and I think they do help. I have very large calves, don't remember the circumference at the time but the XL worked fine for me without my legs feeling like they were in sausage casings. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZHJ5ZWT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Zensah Compression SleeveI also have these that I wear when I don't want anything showing or when I don't want as much compression. There are also MANY more now on Amazon since I have purchased mine. I got these when I had to have my knee replaced. Compression socksMy SIL who is on her feet for work, loves them and I could see the difference between wearing them and not. As the swelling went down in my knee I was able to move back to regular socks but will be busting these out for flights.

My daughter wears them for POTS. Amazon has a wide selection just make sure you’re cognizant of the compression level. My daughter actually prefers compression leggings - amazon again has a good selection at good prices just watch the compression level. Her cardiology clinic has recommended procompression, vim & vigr, and Amazon. Old navy actually has pretty good compression leggings if you can them in stock though they don’t tell you what level their compression is. It seems to be in the 15-20 range based on the cardiology clinic feedback and our experience with them.

My daughter has a couple of packages of these and she really likes them and they have held up well. Some brands seem to loose their compression ability pretty quickly and these have held up nicely.

We have tried various compression socks for long haul flights. I bought my husbands and sons Wellow compression socks as stocking stuffers for Christmas and they all said they like them better than the other brands we have tried. They tested them out for the day and said they were comfortable.

I'm on the tall side and have wide calves, so I buy men's compression socks. My favorites are Futuro, which I pick up at the local CVS.
