Looks like our family is relocating to Greenville, SC this summer. I’m familiar with the area in general, but I’m struggling to discern which school zones to house hunt in. We will have one high schooler. Any recommendations or warnings? Thanks!

Greenville County is huge! It literally takes a hour to go from the north to the south end. Can you narrow down the area a bit, tell me which parts of the county you are open to?

Greenville County schools are excellent, for the most part. Mauldin, JL Mann, and Wade Hampton are the best closest to the area you want. I don’t know anything about private schools.

I’m PM’ing you with a name and number for a realtor. She was the Greater Greenville Realtor of the Year last year and a long-time dear friend of mine. I don’t know if you’re house hunting too, but she’d be happy to answer your questions regardless.
My oldest son, his wife, and baby daughter are moving to Greenville this year as well. They will be renting for a year or so at least as they “try out” Greenville. She’s helping them identify the area they want to live in as well.

I had not looked at them as they were out of the area where we needed to be.

With the traffic on Pelham and I85, there is nothing only a 20 min commute! Hahahaha. I live about 45 min away from that area. Not ever heard much about Eastside, other than they always clobbered us in football, but Riverside is supposed to be a pretty good school.
You may want to drive around in rush hour in several different directions before you commit to an area. Seriously, this area has outgrown its roads and the traffic can be horrible.

That's what I was going to say about Pelham and I-85. Oh my, THE worst traffic.

We’re moving from a similarly congested area, and husband is already working in Greenville and knows his commute limits well. I feel prepared for all but school selection (and subsequent house buying headaches)

Do some research, but I *think* Greenville County is a school choice district. You can go outside of your zone if there is space. Not outside the county, but outside the zone as long as you have your own transportation. Check carefully, and google around, as my kids are grown and we homeschooled throughout so not entirely sure how it works. And some schools may be lottery for the slots. That would free you to buy in a more preferable area and still get the schools you want. Houses are going here in the boonies very quickly for asking and higher with cash buyers. Lots of new ppl moving in.

Sorry I can’t help with the housing areas. DH worked and lived south of Greenville for several months but he rented. The family contemplated moving there and toured Mauldin and Hillcrest but never got to look for houses, as DD decided she didn’t want to move there and DH decided he didn’t want to stay there.

I've only been there once for a weekend trip to see Chris Stapleton, but it was an adorable area, very vibrant. We rented a VRBO. I hope you love it there.
