The elves and the shoemaker story was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the story yesterday. So very cute.

I thought of the mice that help Cinderella. I probably wouldn't mind mice in my house if they were the type that tidy up each night.

The elves and the shoemaker story was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the story yesterday. So very cute. It reminded me of Beatrix Potter's The Taylor of Gloucester.

So super cool.
When I was about 10 years old, my dad worked Civil Service at the time they were transfering ENT Air Force Base out to Peterson Air Force Base. Lots of construction activity. A chipmunk's den was disturbed. My dad was afraid they were so young that they would not survive the construction war zone, so he gathered them up and brought them home. That weekend he built a nice size cage for them that was screened in. He figured once they matured more he would go set them loose in the foothills. There were about 10 of them and so cute to watch. I would go out early morning to feed them and there would be 1 individual up and cleaning the cage. It would sit at the water dish and clean its tail and hands. Then it went to work. It would put any corn kernels that were on the floor back in the feeding dish. It would push/drag any bedding material to the outer edges of the cage. After a bit the others would venture out of ther bedding to join in and eat breakfast.

I grew up with mice. They are really the sweetest little creatures. In seventh grade, I also got a guinea pig. When my female mouse died, I decided to put my male mouse in with my guinea pig to live so they'd have company. At night, the mouse would sleep on the guinea pig's back and in the morning, the mouse would clean out the pig's eyes of crusties. I am not surprised this mouse is cleaning up. They are busy little creatures.
