So, what is the pronunciation issue with “Buena Vista”? I am afraid to ask. 😂 Byoo-na and not Bway-na Ah. Now. There is a candy called Kinder Bueno here and it's pronounced Bway-no so I would, indeed, pronounce Buena Bway-na. In fact, this YouTube also sounds like Bway-na to me. Yet Mr. Google says "Buena Vista is properly pronounced “BEW-na Vista”. The town's name has been pronounced “BEW-na Vista” instead of the Spanish “BWAY-na Vista” ever since it was founded."

I lived for a time in Beaufort NC, pronounced BO-furt. However, Beaufort SC is pronounced BYOU-furt.
I can sympathize with Bexar County TX. When we lived in Texas and I always pronounced it BAY-har. My maiden name is similar to Bexar, but pronounced with both syllables. I grew up in Los Angeles with a Spanish last name and it was still butchered by everyone.
Locally we have the Loess Hills that run along the Missouri River. Loess is pronounced "less".

Wait. Is it Two-sawn or Two-sahn? I say the latter - yikes.

I'm not from the US and even I know that you don't pronounce the C. Maybe because I have been a Beatles fan all my life.... Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona For some California grassWhen I was a kid, I thought that Arkansas was pronounced ar-KAN-zus, and Yosemite was pronounced YOZE-might. My kid was reading the names on license plates on a trip when he was 10ish. “Ar-Kan-Zus” was one of them. 😂

We have many things named Buena Vista in So Cal. We pronounce it the Spanish way (or as closely as we can 😜).

I do not pronounce the C.
Maybe it is a person unfamiliar with names of another culture. In Colorado, we have a lot of streets with names of hispanic origins.
It’s fun to hear people butcher their pronunicaitons. When we moved to San Antonio, we lived in Bexar County. For months upon months I pronounced it Bex-ARE. Yeah, it’s ‘bear’. I asked why no one corrected me, they thought I was saying it ironically. We did the same thing when we moved to the area last year, except we pronounced it "Bex-r." Then we decided the x must be silent so my family started saying something more like "Beh-har." But no, it's "Bear." Oops!

That would have been a difficult one to figure out. Guess they were just being polite by not correcting you, but I bet a lot of people figured you were a newby to the area. lol I might have figured that one out. She is marred to a French guy and they have and X in their last name and I learned that X's are silent in the French language. Like hocky player Mario Lemieux, sillent x. Well, I knew that for French as I took it in school 😂 Why I took French while living in Austin instead of Spanish? I blame my mom she lived in Paris while Grandad served. I just never took to heart that the languages were so similar. Lesson learned, for sure! I did the same thing. I took 3 years of French which I have never used although I can still understand it and can still speak a little. They offered German, Spanish and French in high school. I live in So Cal and married a Mexican who spoke only Spanish as a small child and can still speak and understand it and when I got into genealogy I had to teach myself German and to read old script German. Either of those two languages I would have used. French has been useless to me.

I live in So.Cal., and I can only understand basic words/sentences even after 4 years of high school Spanish. But I still know how to conjugate "to go". It is like a song in my head - voy vas va vamos vais van
