Quick, without thinking about it, say “Tucson”.
Did you say the “c”?
I heard two people this weekend pronounce the “C”. One was originally from NYC, the other from Michigan.

lol! I commented to DSO on a presenter at my photo club pronouncing the C… but he is from Eastern Europe so he gets a pass. Also he did say that he was unsure if the C was pronounced or not.
Here in New Brunswick we do not pronounce the C.

I do not pronounce the C.
Maybe it is a person unfamiliar with names of another culture. In Colorado, we have a lot of streets with names of hispanic origins.
Its fun to hear people butcher their pronunicaitons.

Some confuse it with the area of Italy--the Tuscan region, perhaps, and then pronounce it tus-can

It’s fun to hear people butcher their pronunicaitons. When we moved to San Antonio, we lived in Bexar County. For months upon months I pronounced it Bex-ARE. Yeah, it’s ‘bear’. I asked why no one corrected me, they thought I was saying it ironically.

Guess they were just being polite by not correcting you, but I bet a lot of people figured you were a newby to the area. lol I might have figured that one out. She is marred to a French guy and they have and X in their last name and I learned that X's are silent in the French language. Like hocky player Mario Lemieux, sillent x.

The French ones in the Midwest are just as good 🤣 And make no mistake, they are deliberately mispronounced. You just have to grow up there to know the difference between Des Moines and Des Plaines, etc etc etc. The last two times I moved to new areas I made it a point to listen to local news to learn how to say places without being embarrassed. Still had a few blush moments!

I'm not from the US and even I know that you don't pronounce the C. Maybe because I have been a Beatles fan all my life.... Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona For some California grassWhen I was a kid, I thought that Arkansas was pronounced ar-KAN-zus, and Yosemite was pronounced YOZE-might.

Don't feel bad about Yosemite. I heard a news broadcaster pronounce it YOZE-mite just a few years ago! And they were not from another country.

Well, I knew that for French as I took it in school 😂 Why I took French while living in Austin instead of Spanish? I blame my mom she lived in Paris while Grandad served. I just never took to heart that the languages were so similar. Lesson learned, for sure!

Let me first say that I grew up with Yosemite Sam, I know how to pronounce it. Except, I don’t watch so much TV or movies anymore, just read tons. (Never know how to pronounce politicians’ names). I was reading a story about rock climbing in Yosemite. But for some unknown reason in my head I automatically pronounced it YO-zuh-mite. So throughout this story that’s how it’s pronounced when I read. DH and I were in an office and I saw a book about Yosemite and I started sharing about this story I’m reading. Thought he would die

My great aunt used to tell this funny joke, about a couple bickering over how to pronounce “Buena Vista” while driving through. Finally exasperated, the woman stops the car, marches her partner into the nearest business and demands the clerk tell them where they are, loudly and slowly, to settle the debate. After a brief pause, the startled clerk stumbles out “DAIRY QUEEN” 😂🙄
