I have thought about the food. I have been on three ONE WEEK cruises, and I do remember even in that short time being a little "sick" of the food, but I do follow one person on TT who features the food every day, and so far, they do repeat things, but they also seem to always have one or two new things each night.
Also, I think if I was on that kind of cruise, I would "pace myself" more and not feel like I have to do all the things and eat all the food right away---plus I am assuming money would not be an issue, so I could eat at will at the paid dining options and eat locally while in port, so I do think I would be OK.

I love to travel yet cruising is not my favorite way to travel because you only see the ports you dock in. However, if I’m not paying I would be all in. Give me internet, some daily @ctivitiea, sightseeing and I would be very happy. I am retired so I wouldn’t have to work on board. One concern might be virus outbreaks on board.

I am not a great cook nor do I love to cook so I can’t see how the ships food would be more repetitious than my own! Like you said I would not be attempting to try everything in one week and I think that e would make a difference.

I love that I'm seeing this discussed here. I followed the 9-month cruise story when Royal Caribbean first announced it. We aren't really cruisers, but we went on an extended family cruise on the ship that is now doing the 9-month cruise around the same time that it was announced. It piqued my interest and at the time, I thought it might be a good trip for retirees or remote workers - a way to get a taste of everything and then you'd know where to come back and spend your time.
Now I'm following the Tiktok and message board drama to see how it all plays out. (A guy I used to work with is posting.) I'm still fascinated by the concept, but in reality, I know now I could never do it. The long sea days would drive me crazy. The missed ports would drive me crazy. My current retirement plan is to spend several months of the year in long-term rentals - a month in an apartment in Buenos Ares, a month in Bangkok, etc. - I'd feel like I was wasting time on the cruise. And the ship's excursions look a little bit dull and a whole lot pricey. ($5000pp for a 2-night trip to Machu Picchu? We did 2 full weeks in Peru for a fraction of that.)
I think most of the drama between the 9-month cruisers and the segment cruisers is funny, to be honest, but I'll be curious to see how they deal with the Suez Canal challenge. It's currently closed to commercial traffic and the ship is supposed to transit it. If they have to detour around Africa, that will have massive implications for the rest of the itinerary.
I do think this will be 1 and done - the ship is nowhere near capacity and RC is probably losing money on it. So it's kind of an interesting social experiment but will probably not have a lasting legacy.

I'll join your club. The thought of being in a tiny room on a ship, seasick, with cruise food is just a nightmare for me and the main reason why we don't cruise. The only thing appealing about it is that someone else does the planning and "driving". There are a few exceptions--we've looked into the Antarctic and Arctic Circle cruises as well as an Alaskan cruise because it's really the only way to see those parts of the world conveniently. But they would need to be spaced years apart! The tiny cabin would be a bit too much togetherness for me. While I sleep really well on cruises from the gentle rocking, the thought of having to wear the patch behind my ear and having cotton mouth all the time would be a hard hell no. I got terrible Mal de Debarquement both times I have cruised. I can only imagine what it would be like after 9 months!

Who are the others who voted for this? I have found my people!!! DH and I have tried and tried to convince ourselves that we should take a cruise. We have researched so many different lines ($$ to $$$$$), talked to many people and finally decided it just isn't for us. I want more control over my time and itinerary when vacationing. Add in the chance of getting Covid and being quarantined to your stateroom until you test negative. Spend all that money and then be stuck in a tiny stateroom, unable to get any use of the facilities you paid for - no thanks! All this. No way in hell am I taking a cruise. Like GypsyGirl, I’ve lived all over the world. I want to see what *I* want to see. That pretty much involves driving and stopping at every brown sign I see 😂.

Pre-COVID, I always thought I would like to take a Cruise. But now, the thought of being quarantined with a bunch of other sick strangers has eliminated any desire I might have. Also, I would be fearful of seasickness, especially on an ocean cruise.
The only way I would consider it would be on a very limited occupancy Viking River Cruise. But it’s a moot point. Dh’s 4 years in the US Coast Guard nixed any chance of him accompanying me on any kind of cruise!

I have been on a five week cruise, and enjoyed the experience. Not sure about as many sea days as you would need to circumnavigate the world, but some people we met on cruises tended to routinely book the ocean crossings b/c they were cheaper. The ship entertainment might get a bit old after awhile, but I also enjoyed just hanging out on deck, reading.
Sounds like this one would allow you to maybe get off and explore some locations and then fly to pick it up at a different port? That would break up the trip and let you focus on one part of the world if you so wanted.
If someone were paying for it, I would go at the drop of a hat! Unfortunately, like some others have said, I would need to go without my dh who doesn't like to leave home and does not sail well.

I am not going to yuck anyone’s yum by listing all the reasons but I am on team “cruises sound like hell.” Make some space on the bench please!

I love the idea of not having to figure out an itinerary and to be able to get around the world and see so many things. However, I have to admit that Covid pretty much killed any desire in me to cruise ever again, though I have enjoyed them before.

I’ve never cruised, I don’t like the sun or heat and a good Alaskan Cruise just isn’t in our budget. And I’m assuming a cruise that long would include a lot of sunny locals. So, no. But, if I could afford a really good sized room with a balcony, and most of what it visited was farther north I’d consider a shorter cruise, maybe 90-days. (After a first short cruise to make sure I didn’t absolutely hate it). Also, it would need to have some good places to hang out inside and relax as well. I’m a homebody and wouldn’t mind at all being in my well-appointed room quite a bit. But I would need excellent food provided to be gone that long.

My father in law and his girlfriend did a 9 month cruise in 2023, they absolutely love cruising and are retired so they just had to do it. I was surprised they ever got back on a boat, they were on a cruise, obviously not a 9 month long one, when Covid started and had to quarantine in their room nearly the entire time and then had to quarantine again when they got home.
I get seasick so I wouldn’t do it.

I say no. Only because of my dog. I could not possibly leave her for that long.

One seven day cruise was enough for DH and I. Even with a balcony, it just wasn’t what we expected.

I am dreaming!!!! I would love love love it!!! My conditions are a balcony... which i could never afford.... and only with DH or solo.... there is no way I could share that small space with anyone else!!! Im not following on tiktok but I am following several on IG and several on youtube.... I would pack a small duffle bag with just my diamond dots and cross stitch... i would take my tablets and my laptop... They have an on board challenge where you walk a mile a day... either around the deck or on a treadmill... i would rise to that challenge... I think it would be an amazing way to see all the places they are going... I mightve died a little going thru drakes passage but overall i love following along for the ride!!! I'll book the balcony room next to you! What you describes sounds exactly what I would bring. I was also going to bring some books but most ships have a plentiful library. The last cruise we were on had a 5K so we participated in that. It was fun and we met a lot of people, including the social director.

Food is a non issue for me really. I'm super picky so anything pretty basic is fine. Since there is so much to choose from I know it wouldn't be an issue. For sure have a balcony! Give me some books to read. A small crafting project or two for something to do if bored. Even bring a bunch of downloaded movies/shows to watch. The cruise I went on had terrible choices for TV/movie watching. Although of course we are not on there to watch shows but it was nice to unwind and find something to watch. I love the idea of doing the walking challenge.. views forever. I tend not to worry about stuff like sickness or the like. I just worry about it if it happens. I didn't get any sea sickness on the one time I did go. So I would assume that is not a huge issue for me. I would probably bring a First Aid kit stocked with meds (I actually have one that DH bought me that was specific for cruises) I would miss my big old huge dog though...

Nope. The Jane McDonald style entertainment is enough for me to stay on dry land.

Heck yeah.. when do I pack?? Sounds like a dream to me. No cooking, no cleaning. Seeing the world. Days on the ocean. I don't think I could do it for years at a time.. but for a 9 month stint. Absolutely. I love traveling! us too we love crusing. I am the "planner" for all trips and i like cruises because i can pre-plan but then once i am there i don't have to make a dang decsion except for what drink to order and which lounge chair i want. We make friends fast with the bar staff and we love going to different ports everyday so we can so many different things. We almost always do our own thing vs a "cruise" excursion.

Next year we are cruising from Sydney Australia to Vancouver Canada. It will be 26 days, alot of sea days. We got off a cruise on Saturday and back on another one Wednesday, I love cruising but after falling down the Tik Tok 9 month cruise drama I’m not sure I could do that long.

I've only been on one Caribbean cruise years ago and it was fun, but not something I've ever felt the need to repeat.
I'd never go for 9 months, that's just too much of too many people for me. A fully staffed private yacht, where I get to stay in whatever port as long as I want, maybe.
I do think we'll do an Alaska cruise one day but there are so many other places I want to see before that, I'll probably be 70+ by the time we get to it.

My parents have gone on many longer cruises including going on back-to-back cruises. They are generally gone from 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 weeks at a time.
I would like to go on a cruise to say that I have -- maybe one of those short 4-5 day ones in the Caribbean? -- but I wouldn't enjoy a longer one. I love my husband more than words but being stuck in a tiny cruise ship room with him for more than a few days would not be ideal for either of us. I would also miss having my "stuff" and seeing my friends. I don't want to have to rush or keep an eye on the clock when I'm visiting somewhere, either, or be limited to what they allow you to see.
It works really well for my parents but it would not be ideal for me.
