First, is anyone else on "9 month world cruise" TikTok? The "drama" has been pretty limited to missed port days due to weather and one influencer that boarded for 18 days (the cruise is made up of a variety of "mini" cruises and some people only stay for parts.). I enjoyed his content. I am pretty sure he won't be back on (he hated most of it), but I do hope a few others join in to make content (to a point....it could get really annoying/jump the shark easily) Second, whether you are or are not on "world cruise TikTok", could you handle or enjoy being on a nine month world cruise? How long could you "live" on a cruise ship? (Of course assuming you would ever cruise--I know some of you "couldn't be paid" to cruise at all). ALSO, assume that the cruise would be paid for...obviously a lot of us could not afford...inside rooms start around 65K if I remember correctly.

I think I would love a 9-month cruise or living on a cruise ship IF I didn't have to pay for it BUT DH would absolutely hate it

I am going to say no. The max trip I would do is 3 weeks. I wouldn’t want to be away from my dog for 9 months, and I would eventually get bored/tired of traveling for 9 months. Not having to cook or clean would be nice. But, I would want my stuff. I would want my craft/art stuff. I would want my home cooked meals. Etc.

In general cruises don't interest me because there's not enough time at the various ports of call to actually see anything beyond the most touristy things. A nine month world cruise sounds more interesting to me than other cruises. Putting the financial aspect aside, a few things that would be HUGE issues for me would be 1. how good/reliable the internet access is, because I'd need it for work, 2. food - I could not do 9 months of restaurant food; if there weren't healthy, fresh, simple options, that would be a dealbreaker, 3. are there quiet, work-friendly areas, either in the stateroom or in some kind of business center on the ship. Being able to travel the world (without having to do the work of an itinerary) and still being able to work seems like the dream of flexible remote work

Hell no. Hell. To. The. No.
9 months, heck even a week in a tiny room limited to what is aboard and weather issues...
Nope.

A lot of the TikTokkers are working remotely and posting daily. They also stream, but sometimes there is lag/glitches, but that can be anywhere. I think cruise food would get old, but from what I see on this cruise and know from cruising, I think you can find simple and healthy options---they are pretty good at making what you want within reason...one person gets grilled chicken and veggies almost every night...just orders it. People also pick up food and dine off ship at ports too. Some of the people on the ship have complained about how loud the music is. The staterooms are usually pretty quiet though.

Who are the others who voted for this? I have found my people!!! DH and I have tried and tried to convince ourselves that we should take a cruise. We have researched so many different lines ($$ to $$$$$), talked to many people and finally decided it just isn't for us. I want more control over my time and itinerary when vacationing. Add in the chance of getting Covid and being quarantined to your stateroom until you test negative. Spend all that money and then be stuck in a tiny stateroom, unable to get any use of the facilities you paid for - no thanks!

If someone paid, I would do it after my kids left home and if I didn't have a dog. I think I could do a 90 day cruise with my kids or after they leave...I think I could leave my dog for three months....although it would be hard...but not 9 months.
I would need a balcony. I do think you have to go in with a "long haul" outlook. You are going to miss some ports, you are going to have some long sea day stretches---so you have to be someone who can entertain yourself--you have to realize that you will get tired of things, and that is OK. I guess, being able to pace yourself and be an "ambivert"(not fully interoverted or extroverted---have to be comfortable with people and interacting but also be able to entertain yourself) would be useful skills.
I would probably be doing something on social media...maybe just small for people I know...it would be a good way for me to interact with people outside the ship and be creative/share my photography.

i could probably do it if i ramped up to it. first a 1 month cruise, then 3, then 6, and finally 9.
i've been watching the tiktok videos from people on the cruise. some cruise line glitches already. some high-schoolesque drama with the passengers. 9 months will be a loooooong time for some people.

The *only* cruise we plan to go on is an Alaska cruise and that's because it's just a lot more practical and efficient to see a lot of things up there. Traveling via land there takes a long time and a lot of things are difficult to access. But a monster cruise like the 9 month one is actually more appealing to me. I just know that we'd never go to all the places on that cruise in our lifetime otherwise and it would be kind of fun to go to so many different destinations and then decide which ones we'd like to return to on our own in the future. Of course, this is all conceptual. Reality could be very different lol

I am dreaming!!!! I would love love love it!!! My conditions are a balcony... which i could never afford.... and only with DH or solo.... there is no way I could share that small space with anyone else!!!
Im not following on tiktok but I am following several on IG and several on youtube....
I would pack a small duffle bag with just my diamond dots and cross stitch... i would take my tablets and my laptop...
They have an on board challenge where you walk a mile a day... either around the deck or on a treadmill... i would rise to that challenge...
I think it would be an amazing way to see all the places they are going...
I mightve died a little going thru drakes passage but overall i love following along for the ride!!!

I’ve never been on a cruise because they don’t appeal to me, so I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to do a long one. Now give me the chance to live somewhere in Europe for nine months—sign me up!

I have never been on a cruise and do not ever want to go on a large cruise. I do want to do a smaller Alaskan cruise at one point and dh is really intrigued by river cruises. But 9 months on a large boat. NO. First of all large boats in the middle of the ocean just freak me out for no good reason. And large ships also give me thoughts of Norovirus and that's my idea of hell. I'm not a people person either and would not want to be stuck on a boat for that long with people.

This is me, generally. The *only* cruise we plan to go on is an Alaska cruise and that's because it's just a lot more practical and efficient to see a lot of things up there. Traveling via land there takes a long time and a lot of things are difficult to access. The Alaskan cruise was one we were looking at but have ultimately decided that we think a land vacation is more our style. Like anything else, it really depends on personal style and where you currently are in life. We've spent the past 40 years living all over the world and traveling extensively so I think we are a bit jaded having seen and experienced so much. We are approaching 70 (ack!) and in good health currently, but as much as we try to deny it we are slowing down a bit. While land travel does take more time, we have more time and no longer have the need to see every little thing like we have in the past. Never say never, but I think it's highly unlikely that we ever choose to take a cruise. Me, for one. No way, no how. We need a secret handshake for the “Oh hell no” club. ☺️ We should!

We went on a 3 week Panama Canal cruise from Seattle to Miami in November. It was wonderful! It was a big ship so there were a lot of people and a lot to do. I think I could do a three month cruise but definitely not a nine month one. Having a balcony is a must. We ordered room service several times for breakfast. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the view.
There are plenty of healthy eating options. Some days we would enjoy a great breakfast, skip lunch then have early dining at 5:00. The buffet had a really great salad bar so we enjoyed that a lot. For me it was the desserts, way too many choices available. 😁😬

I don't mind them for a week. Way too people-y for longer. Would I mind the lack food prep? I would not.

The thought of being in a tiny room on a ship, seasick, with cruise food is just a nightmare for me and the main reason why we don't cruise. The only thing appealing about it is that someone else does the planning and "driving". There are a few exceptions--we've looked into the Antarctic and Arctic Circle cruises as well as an Alaskan cruise because it's really the only way to see those parts of the world conveniently. But they would need to be spaced years apart!

We lived just outside of Brussels for 3 years. Barring all the Covid complications, it was just as good as you would think it would be. But I'd honestly say that it took almost 9 months to get used to it all. Covid hit about 5 months after we got there, so acclimating was definitely slowed down. But we were traveling so much prior to Covid, I had to plan in times to stay home and just do laundry. (It takes about 4 hours to do a load of laundry in a European washer/dryer.)

Heck yeah.. when do I pack?? Sounds like a dream to me. No cooking, no cleaning. Seeing the world. Days on the ocean. I don't think I could do it for years at a time.. but for a 9 month stint. Absolutely. I love traveling!

Ugh, no way. Even a 1 week cruise is too much for me. Eating the same crappy food and the same drunk people all the time would be too much for me. While I know that the "drunk" people wouldn't happen on that length, the food would get REALLY old, REALLY fast.

Hell. I took one cruise and was seasick. I still get seasick on ferries. I don't do boats of any kind. And even if I did, why do you want to spend all your time getting somewhere only to spend a few hours in a port. Tiny cabin, a floating petri dish. I do not understand the attraction to cruising at all.

I am thinking I probably could not. Just for the simple fact that I like to do a lot of errand runs to shop for groceries etc. Would I be able to have my 2 dogs? Probably not. This would be my big nope!
However, we were on a cruise several years ago. One couple, our tablemates, were basically doing this. One had just retired from IBM and the DH was another big company contender but could work wherever he wanted. So they sold their apt in Chicago and cruised. She said the cruise costs were comparable to rent/groceries/parking etc. They would time their travels with ports and boat switches in mind. It sounded great at the time but I do think I would get tired of it after a while.

My cousin wants to cruise all the time when she retires. She would probably do this. Funny thing is that she is a germaphobe, yet still loves cruising.
