I have and I only used them once. It's not worth the hassle. I use packing cubes now. There are many threads on that. Click search on the top menu and type in keywords "packing cubes". (Don't use the little search box on the upper right)

There are some here on the board who swear by the Eagle Creek Compression Packing Cubes so you might try to do a search on that, either here or online.

I use packing cubes sometimes, but never compression because it increases the risk that I could go over the weight limit when flying.

You can compress stuff in packing cubes, but compression bags are as dense as a black hole and don’t bend easily. I wouldn’t be without packing cubes.

These are the cubes I use and absolutely love them. I only travel with a carry on so weight is never an issue. Honestly I pack much more efficiently now that I don't check a suitcase.

I do not recommend the type of compression bags that you linked. I have some packing cubes that can compress and they work great! You will find a lot of options on Amazon. I have this one and it currently has a $10 off coupon. www.amazon.com/dp/B07FMPRT72?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsI like to pack, then reevaluate each item to decide if I really need it. I don't like over-packing. It just makes travel less pleasant when you have to lug around things that you will end up not using.

I hate packing cubes. We had compression ones but found the packing cube idea was not for us. I would only get the compression ones if I were going to use them

I have something similar (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XLFXJ7D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and love them. I use them when I travel with disparate types of clothes, especially workout gear. I will put workout gear in one, tees and casual clothes in another, etc.
That said I don't usually put work clothes in them as things tend to get wrinkled when they are compressed. So I use a combo of these and packing cubes

For those of you who haven't liked compression bags, what are your thoughts on using them for just underwear and socks? DH's seem to take up a lot of room.

We use packing cubes. When we took road trips we would pack a weeks worth of socks that we were ready to toss out. After we wore a pair each day we threw them out.

I felt like the compression bags made my clothes wrinkled.; And maybe it's just me but if you put sweaty/dirty or damp clothes (think work out gear or bathing suit) back in them everything gets musty.
We use packing cubes.

That's what I use to compress our underwear/socks before a long trip. I do them in 3 or more groups depending on the length of the trip.

Thanks for your thoughts, all. We typically can pack light (on our 42 day European vacation we only used carry-ons that weighed 24 lbs each), but I think our Alaska trip will warrant a checked bag due to lots of layers and some heavier clothing. We are going to borrow a large bag from my DIL and do a practice pack or 2 to see how all works out.

There is no way i could ever do 42 days in a carry on... woah that is crazy impressive!!!!
