Long time lurker - any experience would be appreciated.
My 24 year old son who is autistic has been burping non-stop if he is in an upright position for over two weeks now. He gets some relief from lying down but he has constant burps otherwise. He's handling it well but we really need to figure this out......
Chest x-ray shows nothing, no acid reflux medications or treatments seems to make a difference. We are waiting on an ultrasound and gastro referral.
The lorazepam for his anxiety seems to settle it a little bit - we are trying to figure out if it's a "tic" of some sort.........
I thought I would post here to see if anyone else had been through something like this. Our family doctor is stumped.

He needs a good GI and a workup. There are so many non-serious things that can cause this. I hope you get answers soon.

You/he may have to go through eliminate things one at a time, something he eats every day, a medication he takes everyday .. Something he may be exposed to.. who knows, but he surely needs it to be resolved and soon!

I was going to suggest GERD and possibly a case of gastritis but if the acid reflux meds didn’t make a difference, it doesn’t sound like that.
Hope you find a solution!

You've gotten good suggestions already. Mine was caused by an esophageal spasm. I am on a calcium blocker for it and unless I really lay overdo it eating or drinking it is much better.

Thanks everyone.
We seem to have found a medication that is slowing down the burping - it hasn't gone away entirely but has definitely provided some relief!
We have a gastro appointment in less than two weeks. A work colleague suggested asking the doctor to do a referral to a rural doctor instead of the city we just live outside of and we got in so much faster - the doctor is supposed to be really good.
Fingers crossed we get this figured out sooner rather than later!

H Pylori
Have him tested. When I had it I felt absolutely horrible. I seriously thought I was having heart issues, but it was really just my gut. I was burping on-stop and completely miserable.

An appointment in two weeks is wonderful.
