Hi everyone! I'm posting early because my mum and I are going to Denny's for breakfast of course! I think I will have either an omelette or a couple of poached eggs Then I need to get some groceries ... I'm going to the retirement residence for roast beef dinner with all the fixings including Yorkshire pudding! Yummmmy! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... it rings true for many things ... for me it was camping ... I did about 80% of the work! How is everyone feeling? Are you still just sucking it up? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a relaxing Sunday everybody!

Ok it was not fair you did 80% of the work camping. That's just not cool. Jeremy is not the most helpful man around the house. He keeps up with the outside work, mowing, landscaping, snowblowing. He can also fix almost anything that breaks including cars. But general housework? Well it's like pulling teeth. This is why I have a cleaning lady after years of resentment toward him who is in general a wonderful man. But camping? He more than pulls his weight. In fact he often does not want me to even get in his way. So when we pull in our lot, he just wants me to stay the hell out of the way while he gets everything ready. My responsibilities include laundry and meal planning and prep. He even does almost all the cooking over the fire, I just have to prep everything. And I do the dishes too. But the vast majority of my camping days are just a life of ease. You might be surprised how easy camping is for you now that your children are grown. I have never camped with kids and the thought makes me shudder.
I'm pissy this morning. (Not really) but I did part 2 of my monthly shawl club and I ran out of yarn. So I had to rip out the whole section so I can try to crochet tighter and use less yarn so I have enough. Anyway this pissed me off enough to walk away from it and pull out my scrapbook instead.
I am trying a new recipe tonight. It is BBQ bean burritos with Spanish rice and peach salsa. I'm going to make everything from scratch. It's from a new vegan cookbook I checked out of the library called "eat like you give a f$ck".

Getting ready to go for a walk with DH. It's in the high 30's. Brisk with the sun shining. We'll spend the day watching golf then the Super Bowl! Go 9ers! Dinner will be Chicken Noodle Soup.

Dh will not hire a housekeeper, because he doesn't want a stranger in the house and he would rather clean it himself. I can't do scrubbing, so he has to do more housework than he should. I do the basics, but he has to handle the heavier scrubbing in addition to his multiple projects that he always does. I married Bob the Builder and he loves home projects.
We've never camped, cause I'm a Hotel kinda' gal, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if it was mostly play and not a lot of effort.
I have to pick up a grocery order. Later it's the Super Bowl. I'm pretty much down for the count, still. Wed. can't come soon enough.
Have a great day, tribe.

We will have a selection of frozen appetizers during the SuperBowl. Normally, I would make buffalo chicken dip and other things, but with ds just getting over a stomach virus, easy is better (and he cant eat Buffalo chicken dip yet)
I wish they would either move the Super Bowl to Saturday night or, if they insist on keeping it on Sunday, have it start at 4pm EST. It would be 10am in Hawaii and I think that is a time that works for most people. Staying up late on a Sunday night is a recipe for a long week!

Us east coasters never have Superbowl parties because it's so late on a Sunday. Everyone always talks about their amazing Superbowl food and I'm just like, we will dinner before the game. There's no party.

DH left this morning just before 8am to get to the airport on time. He had to fly to Frankfurt first, then connect to his Philadelphia flight. He’ll arrive about 4:15pm local time, so I imagine he’ll end up seeing at least a part of Super Bowl. I will not be watching - on the rare occasions I have watched American football, I have had no clue what was happening, and (more importantly) it begins after midnight my time. This morning was church - I had to leave earlier to get there by regular Mass time than we usually leave when I have Communion class 45 minutes beforehand. I am dreading the weekend in March when I have to get there for class and DH will be away. Once I was home I made lunch from leftover roast chicken and since then have been knitting and watching TV. No football today because neither game was interesting.
Dinner tonight is going to be pasta of some sort with meat sauce. Nice and easy and I will probably creat more leftovers for lunch during the week. I am trying not to, as this week will have two non-meat days for me, but I always overdo it when cooking for one.

Happy Sunday! We camped A LOT when I was growing up. Looking back, it was my mom that did most of the work. At the time, I didn't enjoy camping but I have some great memories of the places we went and the people we camped with. We had a boat so there was lots of fishing and water skiing. jeremysgirl I have a picture around here somewhere of my mom washing my hair in Lake Michigan. Good times! Now, I am like scrapmaven, a hotel kind of girl. Today is my first day off work in 22 days. I am doing little to nothing! DH is off to the older grandsons basketball games. I had thought I would go but I just wanted to stay home. I just got back from a long walk. The sun is shining but it is only about 40 degrees. I say only but that is great for February. The kids and grandkids will come over for an early dinner. I think DH is hoping they will leave before the Super Bowl starts so he can watch it in peace. Dinner will be Italian Beef. I'm secretly hoping for an angel food cake. It is my favorite cake and my DDIL usually brings one for my birthday. I am hoping all of you have been well physically and mentally. I don't get on here much this time of the year and when I do it is late so I don't post much. Have a great day!

DH tweaked his back this morning bending down to give the dog a biscuit. His back is so fragile but weirdly he can lift heavy stuff with no issues. Last time he pulled it, he was putting on his socks. So he’s limping around the house and we cancelled our plans to go into the city this morning. He will be fine in a couple days. No Super Bowl for us as neither of us watches football. Just another normal day here. ODS landed safely in Winnipeg this morning. He is at a 2 week course for work. I’m sure there will be some childcare help that is needed over the next couple of weeks. lucyg: Walker is a German Shepherd/Bernese Mountain Dog mix. Supper is rechauffe chili for DH and I will make pulled pork poutine for myself.

I got to camp with the Girl Scouts when I lived in Hawaii. They had camps up in the mountains overlooking the Pacific. Some of my wonderful memories of growing up there.
Didn't camp again until I married DH. First time was when DS was 6 months old. I was hooked. We tent camped all over NorCal and on a trip up through Oregon and Washington state. DH did all the heavy lifting, I was mainly cooking and both of us cleaned up. Nothing but great memories. Once DS started high school we didn't really get to camp any longer. Our favorite sites in the greater Bay Area were Big Sur, Memorial Park in San Mateo (10 minute drive to the ocean), Big Trees National Park and Lake Alpine.

Prior to divorce I did a minimum of 80% of every task, so not much has changed. Today with be a smorgasbord of food like every Superbowl, but this year will also feature quite a bit of vegetables. Hoping that keeps the weight gain to a minimum

You might be surprised how easy camping is for you now that your children are grown. I have never camped with kids and the thought makes me shudder. I'm sure you are right about it being easier without kids ... but I would still have to be outside a lot of the time which equals bugs, etc. Oh, and I hate washing dishes by hand! We eventually sold our trailer and bought a boat ... began staying in a condo at the lake which was better but still a lot of work ... boats are fun but I don't miss it ... I got other better things in the divorce! I'm a hotel girl for sure! lucyg: Walker is a German Shepherd/Bernese Mountain Dog mix. And he wants to come and live with me!

I was thinking about pizza for tonight but it’s probably a dumb night to order pizza, right? Will it take hours to arrive? Maybe I should pick something up instead. taylortroop, oh, I thought he looked like a Bernese. He’s a beautiful boy! leannec, get in line, get a number. scrapmaven, another day of sending you feel-good thoughts. Wednesday will be here soon!

Happy Superbowl Sunday!
I'm watching the game at my sisters and we are having a potluck. I'm making rotel sausage balls and my BIL is smoking a steelhead trout. We've got clam chowder for the niners part and BBQ meatballs for KC. We do SuperBowl squares so that's always a lot of fun. I won big a couple of years ago and bought a grill that I never use haha.
Hope you all have a relaxing fun day!

I do 80% of the work to go camping/backpacking, but that's because I organized all the gear and know where it is. he is perfectly capable of doing it and will do it if it is not a trip I am going on.. like burning man. I grew up camping and hiking and backpacking a lot.. all of our travel cross country was camping.. and dh grew up camping and backpacking too. I still love camping. good equipment makes a difference. we even don't mind camping in the rain or a storm.
at our condo, dh does some cleaning.. but I am the most systematic about it. we have a cleaning lady in SF.. as it is easier for me to keep up between visits. she does a better job than I do.
reading today.. kind of grey and cool out. so not doing much but watching the super bowl later. we are having chicken and veg something.. maybe thai curry for dinner. my brother made spaghetti and apple crisp for dinner last night. lots of good hard family discussions.
update.. my brother went to the beginner hill next to us to try out a new pair of skis.. so I went over and did 4 runs with him.. I don't think we have skied together since the 80's... he is as smooth as ever.

leannec that meme is hilarious! DSO does heaps around the house, inside and out, so it’s not relevant for me, but still bloody funny! 😁 jeremysgirl I love the name of that cookbook! Your dinner sounds great. It was another hot day here on Sunday. (Summer has finally decided to show up, three weeks out from autumn haha!) We took the dog to the river for a swim. When we got home I made curried sausages with mashed potato. I also made a loaf of fresh bread. I really need to get my bread maker out more often, there’s nothing better than warm fresh bread with lashing of butter.

AussieMeg I agree about fresh bread. The only problem is I can't stop at one slice. Well we took advantage of it being Super Bowl Sunday and headed to half moon bay for the afternoon. We shopped, walked and ate at our favorite little fish place. It was high tide and it was drenching the street above the rocks. Hardly any beach to be seen. Lots of surfers out but it made me nervous as they approached the rocks. No traffic, no crowds, no lines at the restaurant. My way to spend Super Bowl Sunday.

AussieMeg the dinner was excellent. My burrito taste game is on point, but I lack presentation. The peach salsa is the bomb though.

That recipe sounds yummy jeremysgirlI have a love/hate with camping. For the same reasons leannec doesn’t enjoy it. It’s so much work for a family. I was a Girl Scout and loved camping with them. Got pizza to heat up for the game. Hang in there scrapmaven

I’m not feeling very well so I just made some rice for myself and DD and DH are on their own. We aren’t football watching folks so they are doing LEGO and I’m binge watching Criminal Minds.

I also camped w/the girl scouts. That was fun, but all we had to do was set up our tent and then rest was done by the leaders. We camped in a gorgeous place w/the most beautiful scenery. Thank you lucyg and teddyw. I'm so ready for this week. jeremysgirl, that salsa looks yummy all by itself.

I'm still eating junk food from the super bowl party. It's actually why I hate "appetizer" dinners - I never actually feel like I'm filled up so I'm having more veggies and dip before bed - and chips lol. I HATED camping and was ecstatic when I could get out of feeling obligated to do it. We had a few years when the the kids were into it. Didn't really matter how much my husband contributed it's just a ton of work. Give me a hotel and restaurants all daylong. I'll go out and hike and soak up nature! We're supposed to go skiing tomorrow so I'm very late in getting my beauty sleep! Have a good week all!!!
Oh and on cleaning services - one of our very first marriage fights was around hiring someone. I worked absolutely insane hours and traveled a ton and literally felt like in my tiny time off I was spending it scrubbing bathrooms. He hated the idea of a stranger in his house- he hated a pissed off wife more. We've used a service for 27 years now. Best money ever spent - and honestly what exactly is their hang up on a stranger?!?! Do they think these folks give a damn about anything but getting the job done? We go with reputable services who are insured so don't need to worry about theft, and what exactly are they worried about beyond that?
