I got my 11 year old grandson a Perplexus. It's a round shaped maze, gotta move the ball through it, lots of fun. There are several to choose from. Only thing he asked for for Christmas was an iPad. Parents got him a mini.

This is a difficult age for gifts isn't it? They aren't so little anymore but they're not really big boys either. For my ds10 he wants all the toys he sees in the catalogs but all he plays with is Legos and video games.
Trying to remember what we got ds:
Strawz Snow tube (everybody got one) Lego movie video game Action Bible - at his request. it's a bible storybook in comic book form. Headphones
ETA:
Big Lego sticker book
There are various books and magazines that have interesting information given in snippets. National Geographics for kids, Guinness book and others. Target has several in the $12-15 range.

Mine circled half the stuff in the Think Geek catalog that came in the mail so he's getting a lot of items from there. He wanted this Megaman blaster thing that fits over your arm and makes the shooting sounds like in the video game and a lamp that looks like tetris pieces.

My 10 year old nephew and his 12 year old sister asked for cash-money. Where have the years gone??!?! Last year we got elaborate LONG lists that were even organized by price! Some time between last year and this year, we lost them. Cash...UGH!!!! Goodbye, fun shopping years! I hope your son has a really Merry Christmas!!

My 11 year old only requested XBox games. We bought him a few of those, and also 2 book sets, a couple of sport team sweaters, sport team blanket and a new backpack

I don't have a boy but perhaps The Guiness Book of Records? This is a really good idea. Books like that are ones my ten year old boy always buys at book fair.

My 11 yo p only wanted a cell phone. He's getting one, plus a case. He's also getting grown up cologne, some jeans and shirts, and some books.

I also have a 10yo son and this year has been the hardest for buying him gifts. He finally did a list the other night, and ended up in tears when we said that Santa wasn't going to buy him another DS (he wants the 3D one because his best mate has one). He never uses the one he's already got!! He only uses his X Box and iPad.
What I've bought him so far (keep in mind it's summer here): Gun that shoot water balloons - he's going to love this because he is ALWAYS playing with water balloons. I also got one for his 2 11yo cousins. Some wrestling toys because he is WAY into WWE wrestling at the moment Melbourne Renegades tank top (cricket team) light up bails for his cricket stumps shirt from the surf shop all of his favorite chocolates and lollies Book 8 of the 39 Clues series Game of Life board game if I can find the darn thing - he and I have been asking for it for 2 years but no-one has ever bought it for us.
I really need to think of more stuff from Santa - probably an X Box game.
ETA: I will second or third the idea of Guiness Book of Records if your son doesn't already have it. My son got it for his 9th birthday and it was one of his favorite gifts.
