What is happening with medication? I've read those of you need (to keep homeostasis for your life) medications declined/changed/not available. Why? I have taken generic Ambien for 10 years of my life to sleep, paid $26.00 for 90 days, prescribed by my physician. My health insurance is with great University benefits but went to CVS, but several months ago, won't cover it, only 25 pills for .28 cents and can't get 90 days refill. Now today, $5.60 for 15 pills. This is really making people go to extremes to get medication. I am not a drug addict and would llike to sleep with one ambien pill per night. fuck you crap people insurance.
Another weird thing is this pill was round and i've never had a pill that's round for ambien, it's always been oblong. Is this weird?

Sorry you're having a difficult time getting your medication. It is shameful.
I may be off base here, but the Federal Government is allowing Medicare to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. I believe the pharmaceutical companies have chosens some drugs to reduce costs. Epi pens, insulin. But in "retaliation" they are denying other drugs. Maybe retaliations is a harsh word, but that's what I call it. Looky what we did, we worked with the government and lwoered buts, but hell now we are not loosing money so we will just deny other drugs. Grrrr! Your drugs amy not be from a Medicare coverage, but they use the same pharmaceutical companies Medicare use, so the same guidelines are used across the board for most all prescription coverage.

Thanks Snyder... it's minor to what other folks have life threatening medications. But just made me aware of the what's going on. I think we should make people more aware of it. My sleeplessness minor of those who need medication for survival.

Can you get the prescription filled at the hospital pharmacy? No, they changed it to CVS. Doing a why?. of why to CVS? Been here since 2000... probably money. That's what my question is. Why is there this change is everyone's health care? I'd like to discuss and bring it up.

Go to the Good Rx website and type in your Rx Name and dosage. It will give you a list of what pharmacies charge for it in your area I have had several times when the Goodrx price is much better than the insurance price.

I haven’t had an issue recently of my insurance suddenly not covering medications, knock on wood. My only issue has been getting Ozempic, my blood sugars were in the 400s before that so it’s pretty necessary. I second GoodRx. Does your insurance company have a mail order pharmacy?

I thought Ambien was one of the meds pulled from being allowed a 90 day supply?
Have you asked your prescribing doctor or the pharmacist why you can no longer get 90 days?
There was a law change that any controlled substance can only be given in certain doses.

We can go to whatever pharmacy we want. Only med we had back ordered was an antibiotic I take as a pre med for procedures.
Dd's compound med L-Carnitor was low stock for a but early 2023 and that happened 1 other time.
Majority of our meds are $2-5. That is for Class 1. Class 3 are $35 (albuterol inhaler as an example). Class 2 are $10. Epi Pens are $0. Dd's BCP are $0.
Dd's IgG 4 week supply is about $10,000 but 100% covered.

Did you ask CVS if it can be switched to another pharmacy?

So where can I get 1 ambien for night legally? If you have the Rx from your doctor, you can get it 30 days at a time (depending on your state's controlled substance laws) with 2 refills. I have to go in person to get it, every month. You pay for it yourself out of pocket to avoid the insurance rigamarole. Use GoodRx. That's what I do. I get it filled at Walgreens and don't have to use CVS that way (Aetna demands I use CVS Caremark, which is BS because they own it). I hate CVS pharmacy. I have many issues with Caremark but I do comply with it for my other meds that can come via mail order. Yes it's annoying, but there are rules about what dosage WOMEN can take and it's 5mg (don't get me started on that, you can Google it if you want to know more). I have taken 10mg for years. When Aetna started that shit with my meds (only approving 15 10mg tabs per month) I just told Walgreens I'll pay myself. It's either that or go through the prior auth BS and having it denied and appealed and on and on every single time. No thanks, i like being able to sleep. Sure it's not life-saving, but it is life-changing. I won't die without it but I also won't sleep without it. ETA your dr can send it to any pharmacy "legally". It's not a question of legality, it's your insurance only approving the 5mg dose. It's a controlled substance and for me that means I have to go every month and pick it up in person. My Dr sends it in as 30 days, 2 refills. She requires that I come see her every 3 months for med refills. That is the policy at that office, not necessarily everywhere.

I suspect you're getting a generic version of Ambien not the name brand - and different manufacturers pills will look different. They should all have the same active ingredients so imo, no big deal.
If your insurance won't cover it, then your option is to appeal that decision or pay cash. Since a generic is available, it should be relatively reasonably priced. You can have your doctor send the prescription to whatever pharmacy you prefer.

Dd's med can only come every 4 weeks but that is because she is on 200ml and she gets 50ml per infusion. It is a blood product and has limitations so while she gets x month coverage with a specific unit coverage per Auth, she only gets 200ml.

My Lyrica scrip, well generic now, changes colors frequently. Depends on the manufacturer.
Insurance is a PITA. They think they know how to better treat patients than doctors. They’ve gotten away with this for so long they are getting bolder. Screw the patients needs. They need to curb spending so the higher ups can be compensated better.
DH went to a new job in 2022. Oct 23, the insurance company decided I need to take a lesser med replacing the Lyrica. The generic, which I was changed to, is still costly. I have been taking that med for 11 years. Between DH and the Neurologist’s office fighting the change, I was able to continue taking the Lyrica. They fought the insurance company for 2 weeks.
Maybe reach out to the prescribing provider to see if they can get the proper prescription.

Our old insurance was annoying as they really wanted you to use their affiliated mail order service for maintenance meds. Even birth control pills would only be authorized on a monthly basis if you went to a retail pharmacy. I'm sure it was just to encourage people to switch to mail order.
