I don't mean the actual losing your taste and smell, but tastes afterwards for foods that you previously liked?
Several weeks ago I came down with some awful cold/respiratory/flu/whatever thing. I never did a covid test because I didn't have any at home and I felt too awful to go out searching for one. My dh was out of the country so I didn't have to worry about exposing anyone else, I just stayed home.
I have been a coffee drinker all my adult life and my morning CANNOT start without coffee. When I get sick with anything I always lost my taste for coffee for a few days, but it would always come back. That's how I knew I was getting better, I'd wake up craving that coffee.
Well, as I recovered from whatever plague I had I realized that my morning coffee (I was forcing myself to drink a cup just to avoid the caffeine withdrawal) didn't taste good. I though maybe I was just overdosed on my peppermint creamer so I switch to dh's Sweet Cream kind. Nope.
So one morning I drank tea instead, my lovely cinnamon tea that someone here recommended. It tasted SO good, and now I'm drinking tea every morning. No coffee now for about two weeks.
My dh said he thinks I had covid because he's heard that it can affect tastebuds long-term. Could be although we'll never prove anything now.
Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else? It's just so odd, especially considering how devoted I was to my two cups of coffee in the morning.

Yes! My taste and smell was off for 599 days. Finally it was just normal one day. Coffee and onions smelled like rotting flesh. Tasted horrible too. I love onions and use them in most things I cook. Eggs, bacon, tomatoes, peanuts, and greasy foods were off too but not as bad. Unless I ate a couple of those together, like bacon, eggs and hash browns for breakfast. Then they tasted worse. It was horrible. I could walk by a coffee shop and throw up. If something stunk to me it was fifty times worse than normal, it was like the smell was gonna consume me.
I did research and found there is a shot they can give in your throat that helps but I never got around to getting it since I hate needles. Stellate ganglion block if you decide to go that route.

Yes. Same as you I can no longer stand the taste of coffee, I make a cup occasionally to see if it's returned to it's delicious glory, but no, I end up pouring it away.

I used to drink coffee (not every day but at least a few times a week) but now that I am thinking about it, I lost my desire to drink it probably around the time I had Covid in 2022. I actually crave really cold drinks (which I NEVER did before) now. When I have coffee now, I get really sick and don't like the taste so I figure I don't really need it. If I am really cold and need to warm up, I am drinking tea (which is good because I have sooooo much of it).

I had covid in Oct 2022 and lost my sense of taste and smell. It returned but I've often thought that there's some residual loss as certain foods just don't taste the same.

I had covid 2 years ago and lost some taste and smell for a good 7-8 months. I still have some issues with coffee. I have changed brands many a time and can't find one that tastes really good like it use to taste to me. I was beginning to wonder if all coffee brands started using inferior beans.
Other foods just don't tast the same either and I wonder if some manufactures changed ingredients and manufacturing processes to cause the food to taste different. I think it may be a combination of post covid affects on those senses and a change in ingredients in our foods. We all know the shrinkage deal with our products getting smaller so the makers can make a buck, so I'm sure they change the reciped to trim costs as well resulting in change of taste.

When DH had Covid, he didn't like coffee for a few days (and this is the guy who was drinking coffee by 8 years old, and would regularly stroll into class in high school with a cup from the teachers' lounge [he justified that by saying he added more money to the coffee fund than the teachers did]). Although I think that's an every time he's sick sort of thing, coffee just doesn't appeal to him (that's how I know he's not feeling well). He didn't like "cheap" coffee for a while after he had it, so we got some ~nicer~ stuff than just Costco brand, but now we're back to basics (Peet's was on sale at Costco last time I went, and it's pretty good).

I too have the taste problems.
Things taste like meat that has gone bad. I can still do sweet , though not the same taste as before . At least it is not repugnant.
Add that to Sjogrens where I have no spit to help swallow anything , even with meds, I am down to a few things I can ear.
They say maybe long covid also( although sjogrens can cause taste disturbance it is not this much) but canāt really say for sure

My sense of taste seems to just have diminished. Nothing tastes good, but nothing tastes bad either. It's just that nothing tastes as GOOD as it USED to. Could that be just aging? Or is from Covid? I had dry mouth after Covid, and I think that is what really changed my tastes. The dry mouth has been dealt with, but I swear my tastes buds never came back.

Yes, my last bout of Covid last month and lost my sense of taste and smell. Couple of weeks later, we bought a new car as DH was rear ended and the car was totaled. I didn't smell the new car smell until last week.

After several bouts of Covid since Nov 2020, I can no longer drink Coca-Cola products.
I used to love real Coke as a special treat and usually drank Diet Coke, but ever since my first round of Covid and being unable to taste right for several months, Coca-Cola products now have a horrible, chemical-y aftertaste.
I have tried different kinds (fountain, bottle, cans) over the years, and it is just blech to me now.
So now I'm a Pepper full time.

Thanks for all your replies, and for letting me know that it's not just me! lol. It's interesting that so many people mentioned coffee. It was very surprising to me given how much of a coffee addict I am. Was. Thanks again to whoever it was here who told me about the Harney & Sons cinnamon tea. So good.

Yes, that happened to me but I had problems with random things like ketchup, cakes, certain, types of bread or rolls and beer. There was absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, esp ketchup. I could eat tomato sauce and BBQ sauce but not ketchup š¤·āāļø It took a while but I can eat most of those foods without issues although Iām not sure if I just got used to things tasting differently. I still donāt really use ketchup thoughā¦just on burgers which I donāt have all too frequently anymore.

Yes! My taste/smell has never returned fully from Covid 1.0 March 2020.
In my quest for things to actually taste/taste good, umm now all about the spicier the better, the stronger citrus etc, pickles, olivesā¦
And ridiculous flaming hot Cheetos/Doritos etc.
On the other hand Iām the best person you know to clean out the chicken coop cuz I smell nothing!! Only a little bit of gas leak worries! š¬š¤·āāļø

I don't drink beer very often, but when I do it has to be dark beer. A week or so ago my dh went to the store to buy something and came back with some Guinness for me. At the first sip I thought it tasted different, not as good as the last time I had one. I wondered if they'd changed their brewing or something. I didn't even think of changed tastes from covid, even though at that point I had already gone off coffee.

Hmmm, I had covid in January and coffee seems so bitter now. DH was thinking it was the new brand of beans he bought, but even the McD Keurig coffee tastes off.
The only other thing I've noticed is cottage cheese tasting more sour than normal. I'm avoiding it for now.

That's why I was so surprised when my coffee love did not return! But reading this thread it seems that it's pretty common. I'm still drinking tea in the morning and loving it. It's just so odd because I was one of those who absolutely had to have my coffee in the morning. One of my best purchases ever was when I upgraded our old really basic coffee maker to one that had a timer, so the coffee would be waiting for me when I got out of bed. haha

I did, but it only lasted a few months. I pretty much only ate nuts and olives, occasionally other strongly vinegar tasting foods.

Yes. Weirdly, the biggest taste difference was with bojangles chicken tenders. They tasted so spicy to me I couldnāt eat them! Iām not a spicy food lover but Iāve never had an issue with those. My daughter said they tasted the same to her. I finally ate them again last month and could manage it still tastes extra spicy to me. Other foods taste different but not inedible. Iāve been able to manage. Itās been two years. Iām assuming it will always be like this now.
