I thought this was interesting. Apparently the French Dip Sandwich, the hot fudge sundae, and the Cobb salad were all invented in Los Angeles. They also mention Chili Burgers. I’ve been many times to the place mentioned in the article, Tommy’s. They are well-known for their chili burgers. Some of the dishes mentioned I wonder about - Cheeseburger. No one else invented a cheeseburger?? ericbrightwell.com/2022/02/15/foods-invented-in-los-angeles/So, what dishes were invented in your city/state?

Right off the top of my head, New Haven style pizza and hot lobster rolls.
ETA: Duh, the hamburger was also invented in New Haven, at Louis' Lunch, which is still in business.

My state: Cosmic Crisp applies, Rainier cherries, Walla Walla onions, Applets and Cotlets, and the Frappuccino.

Google tells me that Virginia is responsible for bbq, mac and cheese, ice cream, and fried chicken. I guess I was destined to live here because mac and cheese, and ice cream are two of my favorite things. lol

I don’t know where it was invented, but it seems like a lot of folks in other parts of the country have not heard of wedding soup, which is a regional favorite here.
Johnny Marzetti is an Ohio dish, I think. At least, that’s what I have been told.
Ham loaf-sort of like meat loaf- is an Ohio/western Pa dish.
ETA: I forgot about buckeyes! Yum!

The Bobbie, a sub stuffed with slow-roasted turkey smothered in cranberry sauce and topped with handmade stuffing and mayo. The sandwich was invented by Capriotti's here in Delaware.
Scrapple, although we can’t lay claim to inventing it my little state is the largest producer of scrapple in the world.

From Alberta, I can think of the Ceasar drink, ginger beef, puffed wheat squares. Anything with saskatoons is popular in the prairie provinces, saskatoon pie, saskatoon jam.

The Juicy Lucy originated in Minnesota as well.
We have a lot of iconic Minnesota foods, but I don’t know how many of them actually originated here.

Minnesota - Milky Way bars, Spam, Honeycrisp apples, Bundt cake, corn dogs, pizza rolls Portland is very well known for food, but apparently corn dogs and tater tots were invented in Oregon lol A number of current corn dog vendors claim responsibility for the invention and/or popularization of the corn dog. Carl and Neil Fletcher lay such a claim, having introduced their "Corny Dogs" at the State Fair of Texas sometime between 1938 and 1942.[10] Pronto Pup of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, claims to have invented the corn dog in 1939. Cozy Dog Drive-in, in Springfield, Illinois, claims to have been the first to serve corn dogs on sticks, on June 16, 1946. Also in 1946, Dave Barham opened the first location of Hot Dog on a Stick at Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, California.
So, who was first?? I remember these! They were really popular for awhile. I googled, an supposedly teriyaki chicken originated here in Seattle. I heard it was Hawaii, but who knows. Fun thread to read! I forgot how American Chinese food pretty much came from San Francisco! I know the fortune cookie was invented in S.F.

The first ever Egg McMuffin was served at a McDonalds in Santa Barbara. There’s a plaque and everything. Bet that’s not what you expected from a hoity-toity place like Santa Barbara!

I don’t know where it was invented, but it seems like a lot of folks in other parts of the country have not heard of wedding soup, which is a regional favorite here. Did your area have a lot of German immigrants? Wedding soup is fairly well known in the part of Germany where I live - it even comes in cans! I live in Munich. Weißwurst - fresh, white veal sausages - were invented here, in a bierhall that still exists and still sells them, but only before midday, as that is the tradition (being a fresh product, before refrigeration, they would spoil by lunchtime, so are eaten for breakfast) There are a lot of other 'local' specialties, but whether they were invented here, or just became popular, is hard to know, given how old the history of some of these things are.
