We don’t eat fast food very often, only when we take the grands on an outing. The older ones can go by themselves and they have been tell us about the prices. The Burger King here in our town has closed down. Part of what is making worse is here in California they pasted a law that fast food workers must be paid at least $20.00 an hour. Guess who that gets passed on to? I wished I had paid better attention to economic when I was in school, this won’t even help the fast food workers, all the costs will go up wherever they choose to eat. We haven’t been eating out at all because of the outrageous prices. I know there are a lot of things that go into the rising prices in restaurants, but we aren’t willing to absorb these costs especially in chain restaurants. We used to eat out 2 or 3 times per month, but lately we only go out maybe once a month. We have really cut down on take out, too, unless we have coupons. If I need take out now, I am much more likely to get it from the grocery store than a restaurant. Kroger or Walmart fried chicken with sides made at home is well under $15, but the same amount of food is about $30 (with coupon)at KFC. I’m also likely to just pick up rotisserie chicken at Sam’s for $5 and add a salad for a total cost under $12.

Ironically one of our mom and pop restaurant with two locations just announced that with the supply chain stabilizing or something like that that they would be lowering their prices. This is in Southern California. Unfortunately the one closest to us closed a year ago and became a Krispy cream. It kind of shocked people when they announced it. I don’t know how much but still everyone else keeps raising their prices.

That was crazy4scraps. I quoted her and said we only get the $5 biggie bags at Wendys, which for us would be $15+tax. To go anywhere else fast-food-y though is closer to $30. Wendy's prices for the regular combo meals are insane though I started a thread a month or so ago about this same thing. Before this surge pricing crap. We have cut down so much on eating out. I might go if I'm by myself, and I just order a sandwich, no fries. Maybe a drink depending what I have with me. And even then I order the cheapest one... or special. Kids and I will get a 5.00 pizza on Friday nights from Papa Murphys.. plain and simple. otherwise, I'm cooking or since the kids are old enough, we just make our own meals. We are hardly together at the same time. We have cut back to. I finally convinced my husband to split a meal the other day. We were still stuffed. It felt like a splurge and still wasn’t cheap but half what it would have cost normally. We get coupons from Burger King for 19.99 family meals. 3 whoppers, 3 burgers and three fries. More than enough for us. My husband pucks it up and we eat it at home. We occasionally go to the local Irish pub for their specials. $8 huge burgers with fries. You can customize them and upgrade a few toppings if you want. They have other specials daily and brunch in the weekends that are reasonable.

They raised the prices when supply costs went up and never lowered them when costs went down. I would like to stop having to pay $8 for a 12-pack of Coke Zero at some point, KWIM?

I just went to a brand-new sit-down restaurant, last weekend, in a different county than we live in, DH and I had lunch, with an appetizer and DH had iced tea, and the total was $34 (not counting the tip). I don't know if the prices were that low because it's a smaller city, the owner got some deal on the ingredients, or they will be going out of business in a month or what. I had anti-sticker shock. On the other hand DH and I went to a Mexican restaurant (for lunch) a few months ago, here, at didn't order anything special (tacos and burritos) and a soda, and it was almost $60 Washington State just passed some cage free egg law, and immediately eggs went up to $4.50 a dozen, at the discount grocery store. So, I don't think the prices are going to go down anytime soon, at least around here

So I hope your egg prices come back down.

I think Wendy's really hurt themselves with this move. I rarely get any fast food, but Wendy's would be last on my list now. Surge pricing I think only “works” when people don’t have ready alternatives, like with electricity. I spent a year once a week taking an Uber to the airport and didn’t really have another choice, since I didn’t live in an area where I could reliably hail a cab, and I hated it. I would end up logging in a half-hour before I really wanted to leave and checking the price every few minutes until it got to the lower end of the range I knew generally existed. I wouldn’t have dealt with it at all but/for my lack of options (Lyft was reliably more expensive at all times because they seemed to have fewer drivers). If I were dealing with a fast food restaurant and had a dozen alternatives, I wouldn’t be messing around with fluctuating prices. It’s annoying and stressful, and you feel like a rube if you have to pay the higher price.

I watched a TikTok this morning where a man said he and his wife went to Taco Bell and each had a normal sized meal and a drink; their bill was $32 dollars. $32. For Taco Bell. 100% accurate Taco Bell used to be our go to fast food bc it’s free of my kids’ food allergens, but it is $15/person to eat there. We can go to a counter service place like Jason’s or Rosa’s for that price.
Goodness. I remember when Taco Bell had "I found change at the bottom of my purse, so I can eat out" type prices.
We rarely eat out anyway, but it's so much less now.
