My DH sent me this.. his latest kick is to move to Topeka, KS. (long story but when we were both kids, we both lived in Topeka and went to the same grade school, at the same time and lived a few blocks from each other).. We both have a huge history of moving a lot. Me around 30 times, him probably 1/2 that.) Anyways, for whatever reason I like this house. It needs work, and it's weird. But I'm drawn to it. haha.. Hate that weird looking fireplace. www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/M8011380992

It's a lot of brown, but I see potential if a person has the time, money and desire. Looks like a home that would be featured on Fixer Upper.

I don’t think I could handle all of those tall skinny windows. It has a real 1970’s vibe going on. And in spite of having all those windows, overall the interior of the house seems really dark. And what was up with the flooring in that sitting room / living room?

I see that exterior is a ton of maintenance that needs to happen.. wood doesn't hold up that well.. not too bad otherwise.

I like the Modern style. The decor that is left there and some of the finishes/paint seem to have a 90's vibe going, which really distracts from the Modern esthetic - but that could easily be fixed with some paint and simple changes. The kitchen looks recently re-done, and it really doesn't vibe with the Modern house - looks almost like they went Farmhouse on the cabinets with the 'raw' finish. But something as simple as new knobs and handles that have a more Modern feel, instead of Farmhouse, would fix that!
Which fireplace? The one with the copper cover/vent is AMAZING and that must be kept at all cost. Don't change the patina on the copper either. It would freak me out a bit, with no enclosure for the fire. Is that how it is supposed to be? I would want the logs in something that held them together. But that is gorgeous. I am not big into having fire - so that one I might just place a HUGE green fern in the fire pit area. Oh yummy!
But I think if you got rid of the 90's somewhat Tuscan decor/finishes and went hard on Modern/ Mid Century Modern- it would be a stunner!
The outdoors looks like the wood needs a wash. Soft wash, not power wash. Power wash can completely damage that wood, but a soft wash will brighten the wood back up. Some of the algae covered wood might need more work. I would have a BONDED INSURED professional do that. No just anyone with a power washer. If they mess it up - it would be tragic and expensive to fix.

I agree there is a lot of brown... the only brown that I like are the kitchen cabinets.. the rest needs work..
And the flooring.. not a fan.
So with changes..
The outside definitely needs sprucing up and some color other than BROWN.. I like the garage door though.
@gar I will do a pea invite for helpers on the renovations! haha

Ooh...that floor! Imagine tripping on one of the edges of the stone and falling! Huge safety hazard. Maybe just me. I can trip on air. I like the pool despite being an odd shape. Not sure if the photos do this house justice. They just show how weird the layout of the rooms are. The kitchen is bright though! Lot of windows to clean. I do love odd looking homes, and this fits the bill I guess.

With all the brown, it just looks so dirty to me. And that is the oddest shaped pool ever. What is that shape? An eye?

I'll totally validate you. I like it and see why you are drawn to it and the potential it has. The "sold as is" part would scare me, though, and the buyer will probably end up spending more on renovations than they realize.

I keep coming back and looking at the photos!
It was probably an absolute gem when it was built, but looks like it has not been kept up (at least the outdoors) The slate floors are amazing - and they carry out to the pool area. This was something done with MCM - the nature feel, coming indoors. A big fluffy white or light pelt rug (not real, but something that resembles a pelt with irregular edges, would go perfect. Some remodeling has really put the ick on it though. While the kitchen tile is nice, it is SO wrong for the house. As are the cabinets, but replacing all that would be a lot. They look really nice, but not in that house. The spindles and other woodwork that was added would have to go. The picture frame molding on a lot of the walls should be removed. It's just not in keeping with the house. I think that is what gets me. Such an awesome modern architecture, and so many things added later that just detract and don't match the house at all. The garage door is beautiful, but not on that house.
It would be so fun to bring it back to it's MCM deliciousness - but yikes, it would cost!

I like the price!
I feel like that is a house that could use a professional's touch. Like they had an idea, but didn't quite pull it off. I am a fan of natural wood and stone, so there is a lot I like, individually. But together... it fights with each other. And the inside doesn't match the outside. The toilet next to the row of windows, the patio type doors between the living room / kitchen area, and the pantry/storage with the hard wood floors and fancy walls... they obviously repurposed spaces. And then the one random room with carpet, that looks like what I would have expected the whole house interior to look like based on the outside. I would like to see a layout of that house.

I love a good neutral in a home. But thats a lot of brown. A LOT.
That said, with some $$ and work, it could be a great house!

Yeah I saw that 'as is' and wonder what was that all about... a little to scary for me to buy, not that I was buying haha... I guess if you were redoing the whole thing, maybe 'as is' doesn't mean that much, but if there is some underlying thing going on, do they have to tell you when selling 'as is'?

The price is great (per square foot). It just had too many things I'd want to change.

I like a wood house but, that siding is hammered.
The kitchen is nice.
I am not a fan of the hard stone flooring, and that one fireplace is weird!
It would be amazing with a lot of money and elbow grease.
Quick...get on the horn to Joanna Gaines!!

I live about 90 miles from Topeka. Have you followed the huge increase of violent crime there? Have a friend that grew up there also and she is amazed at how wide spread it is. I.like the house, though.

There is a MCM buried under all that tacky remodeling and addition. Lots of land that needs reclamation. Maybe you could find the original plans with building and permits dept. and find out if it’s even still under all that mess. I definitely would not touch that! And I am from the old south where he love of old historic homes runs deep in our souls nd we never think with our wallets!

There aren't words to describe how much I hate everything about this depressing dump. From the brown beams to the ugly stacked stone to the sheet of metal over more ugly stacked stones serving as fireplace to the grim pool to the repulsive brown floors, this catastrophe screams THE BRADY BUNCH'S NEIGHBORS who didn't even have the benefit of having architect Mr Brady do the additions. Instead, they added on bleak and featureless box-shaped rooms devoid of charm and interest. The result says to me: the Bradys' neighbors take on sister wives and they each got a box shaped drywall room tacked on at the back of the Main Compound. The last remaining, and youngest, wife won at the end and got to redocorate a little in her favorite "it's Tuscan!" style in 2001 after the husband died. Missing: bowl of grapes, fat chef wine bottle holder.
In a word, it sucks.
The only things I'd keep are the updated cabinets (nice wood, looks solidly built , like the style) and the rabbit wallpaper. I do dig that wallpaper for scent in a small space.

My ability to envision anyone living in this house is apparently broken. There are just too many odd things for me and I can’t see past them to picture this as a warm family home.
