Apparently the latest/current variant is pretty wicked virus.
My sister and a niece, both totally vaccinated, contracted covid and were very sick. Both are recovering. Niece said she can't imagine how sick she would have been if she didn't have a vaccine.
My sister has no idea where she contracted it. Niece performed in a play. After play, the cast mingled with audience members and 8 cast members became ill.
Beware, this virus is not done with us yet.

My DIL is a physician's assistant and has her own clients in a dr.'s office. She sees a good 15-20 patients a day. Said she has 4-5 Covid patients weekly. She reminded us in the fall to get our booster for the latest strain. I have never had a side effect from the shot, so I am always happy to be updated. They were here this weekend with family (including a six month old). She called Monday night. She has Covid. She said it isn't even recommended that she not see patients and just stay masked up. Thankfully none of us got it from her. At least not that we can tell. My husband took a test because he works with a large clientele of 80+ year olds. He was negative. So crazy how different it can be for everyone.

Ds and I have it. Ds tested positive Saturday. I tested positive on Tuesday.
Ds was at the ER twice. First due to high fevers and seizure.
Second due to GI stuff going on. We were there 12 hours.
Today he is doing a lot better.
Ds only had fevers, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, and post nasal cough. Very tired though.
I had high fevers yesterday (104) and have a moderate sinus infection (best way to describe it). I unfortunately reacted to Paxlovid. No fevers today, just tired. But up and doing some light chores.
I have definitely been sicker with upper respiratory infections, bronchitis and pneumonia.
Thankfully for us both, the vaccines have helped build immunity and proper battle to fight the virus.
Oh and neither of us lost smell or taste.

Sorry for her and for the patients potentially exposed because society has collectively decided potentially deadly viruses don’t matter. (I’m sure your dil will wear an n95 and is far less likely to infect anyone but it doesn’t take much to infect someone who is immunocompromised and it makes me heartsick we tell anyone not to stay home and rest when sick, but especially the people we know are around at risk populations).

She always wears an n95n mask when she isn't 100% or knows a patient is sick. She said that there are new guidelines and she is following them. She doesn't feel sick thankfully. I talked to her and she sounds good. I guess a lot has changed.

They are designed to get people back to work faster so corporations don’t have to pay sick time. I was hopeful that Covid might reach us that staying home when we are sick is good for everyone and that all employers should pay sick time and not penalize staff for using it. But nope. I hope it didn’t seem I was implying your dil is doing something wrong, I’m not at all. And if she feels well enough to work, and wants to, that’s totallly fine and god knows we’ve talked here before about how hard it is to reschedule doctor appts. I’m just bitchy about the whole mess and wish as a nation we took better care of our people.

She works with 6 or 7 providers in one practice and they are really good about helping each other out. She also has an amazing work ethic at her young age. I know if she felt poorly she wouldn't work/want to hurt any of her clients. You have seen this whole Covid thing from a different point of view and I understand and appreciate your viewpoint.

The brain fog was no joke. How long did LC last for you? I’ve been off work for 2 months. Only 2 weeks down with COVID. Also have Fibromyalgia. Supposed to return to work Monday. I couldn’t get out of bed this morning. How I am supposed to return to work, even PT, is beyond me. On good days, I have 5 hours without a shower, before I am back down.

Beware, this virus is not done with us yet. It's time to accept that it is the new normal. I do not think it will ever go away. And some of what we have may be virus that have always been around. Human Corona viruses were first identified over 60 years ago and they think they have probably existed for centuries. We have always vaccinated our livestock for them as long as I can remember. I know years before Covid-19 was introduced, people would get sick with a virus and it wasn't the "Flu" (the flu of that season) and it was "just a virus", sometimes more serious that other times. We are really hyper aware now. The world can't stop - but we can take precautions! I see a slide in the sanitation practices that I think really helped. Walmart is always out of the wipes for the carts, so I bring my own now. I saw a video of a guy that takes swabs and cultures them and he did shopping cards. Swab without being wiped, then same cart and wiped with a disinfecting wipe. I was BLOWN away. First swab culture was just blown up! Second cleaned before swab was nearly clear. Handwashing, sanitizing and wearing masks if you are sick or don't want to get sick work! But for the love of god - if you are hacking and sick - stay HOME! I thing employers that make their employees work when sick are harming everyone!
