I did something yesterday that I haven't done in over 35 years. I watched tv for free! Bought an antenna for my tv downstairs, hooked it up and turned on tv. Had wonderful reception and was able to watch. Already ordered two more antennas for the other two tv. Feels so good to be doing this. Now for my questions.
1. We have Xfinity. If you cut the cord and had Xfinity, did you stay with them or go to another company. If you switched, who did you go to?
2. What service did you also get (if any) that lets you watch other tv channels like History Channel, Nat Geo, cooking shows, etc?

YAY! We did the same. Our xfinity bill was over $200. That is ridiculous. We kept them for internet only but I want to switch to google fiber so I can be done with xfinity once and for all. Can you post a link to the antenna that you bought? I have one but need a couple more for other tvs. So far we haven't bought any subscriptions to streaming services. We just watch what's free or read a book. Our daughter has all the subscriptions (Netflix, Peacock, Disney, etc.) & she has occasionally signed in on our tv when she is over. She said we can use it anytime but it's not on the tv I use & I haven't had any desire to figure it out.

You get Food Network, Cooking Channel, Discovery, Magnolia Network, etc.

1. We have Xfinity. If you cut the cord and had Xfinity, did you stay with them or go to another company. If you switched, who did you go to? We have AT&T Fiber and stayed with them as they are the best option in our neighborhood. It helps that our rate is grandfathered in at $80/mo as long as we continue to use them. 2. What service did you also get (if any) that lets you watch other tv channels like History Channel, Nat Geo, cooking shows, etc? We have YouTube TV that covers pretty much everything we had on cable. Streaming services we use are AppleTv+, Discovery+, as well as ESPN+ when DH wants to watch something. We cut the cord about 8 years ago and have never looked back. Enjoy your freedom!

We use Roku for streaming. We can get lots of free viewing on Hulu or Tubi channels. Roku device cost about $40 when we got it several years ago.

We have YouTube TV. We like the DVR with it and the channel selection is good for us.

We have Dish Network streaming. It has the local channel that carries almost all the Astros games, as well as all the local and basic cable channels.

We use Xfinity for our internet because they have the best service For Live TV, we went with Hulu Live. Dh printed out all of the channels we had on cable and we ranked them as Must Have Nice to Have and dont care. Then we looked at the offerings from Hulu Live, YouTube TV, Direct TVNow, and SlingTV and figured out which one suited our needs best. The lousy thing is that Bally Sports (live local sports) is no longer on Hulu so we are able to see fewer baseball and hockey games. Hulu Live also comes with Hulu Streaming and you can get a bundle with Disney plus and espn plus

I have YouTube TV and also have AppleTV+, Max and Peacock. I use DS's Netflix account.
It's funny how the cost of streaming has gone way up. I was looking at a past budget from 2018 and YouTube TV was $54 and now it's pushing $80. I share my account with my sister's house and it's a good savings for both of us.

I am curious how much people are spending on all these streaming services vs what they paid for cable/satellite.
We pay $30 a month for top tier package of cable with Frontier. Our big cost is the high speed internet.
Then we have Prime and I added PBS kids for DS and Discovery + so $28 total for that.
Then we pay Disney + for the year at once. So if split, about $12 a month.

Another YouTube TV user here. I have Hulu, Max, Netflix and Prime. Oh and Peacock. I sign up for Hulu and Peacock during the Black Friday sales. A tv in one of my bedrooms just has over the air antenna. I get a ton of channels on it, alot that I can’t get otherwise. They come in crystal clear. For free. 😊

The very cheapest cable we can get is supposedly 39.95 but that doesn't include a DVR and it is pretty basic channels. And of course there are fees they add that increase the cost. I think 20 years ago we paid 35.00 for one of the Dish services.

I don't watch a ton of tv and about 70% of what I watch could be watched for free. It's the husband who loves tv and I can't imagine he'd ever go for free tv. We pay over $200 for it all.

If you dont need locals and dont need sports, Philo is a good service.
A lot of people rotate some of the other services. I am not the greatest at that although it would be a good money saver.
Look into all the free stuff available. You will have more to watch than you will have time for lol.

It’s worth 185 to not troubleshoot for DH’s tv watching. If he is home it’s on. His bil and sil dropped cable and saving $150 a month. They have streaming service, but Bil says he can’t find anything to watch 😂😂. That would be my DH.

We have DirecTV streaming. It was the only streaming service that had Bally so we could watch the Rangers.

We switched to YouTube TV years ago. The hardest part was canceling Xfinity. I was on hold forever. While I was on hold, DH and I drove to the office and took a number. When they started all their BS trying to get us to keep cabel I told them, "I'm sitting in the office with my equipment in my lap. Either you cancel it or I'll sit here until my number is called and they'll cancel it." When my number got called I was still on the phone with the agent and I told the in-person guy the same thing. What an ordeal!
