Shoot, I got my A&O package this afternoon and I forgot to open it and look at the pen. In the morning first thing.

Pilot Vanishing Point is my favorite but I have a couple TWSBI and those are great too. I haven't figured out my ideal tip yet.

Well, this is a rabbit hole I didn't need!! I opened my box just now and got the pen and inks out. I have nothing in my memory to compare but this pen has a nice weight. The nib is .38. Which, I think, is a more fine nib? I am a fine point pen person and want the fountain pen to also be fine. The inks that came with it are blue, green and a blue green. The color in the sample is the blue green. And, of course, I have ink all over my fingers! A question I have is I have Dr Ph. Bombay India inks. Can I use those with a fountain pen? I assume so? I can see where this could lead to another and another. 🥴,

I'm a fountain pen user! I actually have the ink that was mentioned in the NYT (the original, not the new one), lol! I started using them back in 2010, and got really into collecting them for a while, but then lost interest and let a lot of them go over the years. Now I have around 15 pens and a small collection of inks that I really enjoy.
I never had any of the REALLY expensive pens, though I have had friends that did. I'm in a local fountain pen meetup group, and boy does that sound nerdy when I type it out! The Lamy Safari was my "starter" pen, but honestly it's the one I have the most of, in an array of colors, and I appreciate that it's affordable to add to my collection or buy replacement parts for it. I also like the TWSBI Eco, but I tend to use my Lamys more.

I feel like I’m watching a real housewives reunion about ink.

The new version looks just as pretty to me.

I'm actually playing with my fountain pens for my 100 Day Challenge. I hadn't used them in a good while, and decided it'd be fun to write a song lyric every day, to get back into playing with my pens. I pick a pen and ink and use them for 5 days, and then switch out. I'll have to post a pic when I use the Dark Lilac ink!

my favorite ink is Noodler's Lexington Gray. That color is in my cart at Goulet. Along with Walnut. I finally had a moment to try out a fountain pen in my planner and since there is no shadowing I am sold. The ink I tried doesn't bleed through my planner or my journal. My enabler homie (we literally shop for everything. books, makeup. yarn. now pens) told me about an ink store not far from one of the bookstores we visit so we are planning to go in the next few days. This may not be important to you so feel free to ignore, but you might want to dig into the stances Noodler’s (and their owner) have on some hot button issues. I didn’t realize this and it changed my decision to purchase their inks.

It’s a personal choice of course but for me as soon as I read about the controversy I decided not to buy their inks.

scrappyesq You can't just drop that in and not explain! So ink is now controversial?!
I've never used a fountain pen but I'm at work for a few minutes and bored and opened the thread. I've learned so much from the peas, I thought it couldn't hurt to read a thread about fountain pens.

She sent me this thread and said buyer beware. Neither one of us are big cancellers by any means but this was too much. If this link doesn’t work I’ll post when I’m home.

I am trying to think of how much I actually write. I could write with it in my LV Agenda right? Keep my journal running and plan maybe? I saw a nice one someone on here recommended and it was pink and pretty. It’s very nice.

No discussion of fountain pens is complete without also reviewing the best papers/notebooks to pair them with. I recently returned to my old favorite Clairfontaine notebooks after many years of using various Moleskine options-- the difference in the feel of writing on premium paper is noticable! I ordered a simple stable bound notebook on Amazon--just one notebook for $8, and there was that notation that there were only 2 left in stock. My package arrived and it's 6 notebooks in a shrinkwrap package. I'm pretty sure it was a mistake, but Amazon isn't taking them back, so I was the winner on that purchase. I don't use a planner anymore, but I do keep a "daybook" which combines functions of diary, schedule planner, and random records and planning functions, so these new notebooks will probably last me well over a year-- plus they are lovely with fountain pens and specialty inks-- no bleeding or feathering.

I found a pen I am going to get. It’s by Pilot and pink and gorgeous. I have started journaling and it’s going well. I ordered more inserts today. I am pretty happy.

I love fountain pens. I haven’t used or even thought about them in years.
I used fountain pens when I was in high school, many moons ago. I switched to the cartridge style, purely for convenience. I only had inexpensive pens, probably Pilot. I vaguely remembering one that could be used with bottle ink or cartridges, a sort of hybrid pen. About the only local place I could find pens, ink and ink cartridges was the local Hallmark card store. They carried a lot of stationary items, back in the dark ages when people mailed cards and sent letters. Ha.
I don’t do traditional journaling, but I do like to make junk journals. I recently have been researching commonplace journals. I found several simple commonplace journals my mother made in her belongings after she died. I would like to start one and go back to using fountain pens. I’ve read various places that the Leuchtturm 1917 Classic Notebooks are nice for journals because they lay flat and are 100 gsm, plus they come in plain, ruled, dotted or square grid. But they’re kind of pricey.
This thread has me wanting to see if I can locate any of my fountain pens and if I can’t, I’ll be going down a rabbit hole and investing something new!

You can buy a converter for many brands of fountain pens. It will allow you to fill from a bottle. And then if you remove the converter, you can use cartridges again. I love to use bottled ink because there are so many colors available. That is another rabbit hole, all the different inks! But, using cartridges is convenient, especially if you use your pen outside of the home.

Slight update: I cancelled my pen shipment because all they had were fine nibs. I need a medium one.
