Yes. I don't really go to spas but I do see the ads. I go to a clinic that offers many services, including compounded weight loss meds. My aesthetician (she is an MD) is going to start offering those as well.

Ugggg, is that taking away from people who need it for diabetes situations? I swear every month it is pulling hair trying to get my meds. Of all the meds I have taken this is the one that works. I understand it is a good weight loss tool.. I have lost a lot of weight, but I know I wouldn't take it if I didn't need it for the blood sugar issue.

No, as these drugs are not the branded Ozempic medicines. The Wegovy people aren't taking your medicines either, as that uses a different type of injector pen (single use per dose) and the Wegovy shortages are mainly due to issues with pen supply. The shortages are going to get worse, as I believe the FDA has now approved the medication for cardiovascular use and I believe the company can now sell in China as well.

Sucks about the shortages though.. The pharmacist seemed to think (a few weeks ago) it was getting better.

I don’t understand enough about the compounded meds to get it I guess.

Interesting; I haven’t seen any ads for the service, at least not before today. I’m thinking this is new(ish) for my salon/spa since this is the first time I’ve seen them promote it on the ad board by the doors.

There are loads of Medspas in my area offering semaglutide. One friend says she's able to pay via her FSA, but it's running her about $500 a month.
I've not seen ads for online services.

They will be working under an MD or DO, just like if you go to a CVS Minute Clinic for antibiotics for a simple infection. They're not legally allowed to just hand it out. Compounded means a pharmacy is mixing the drug and it's not coming straight from Nordisk or Lilly. I was very skeptical about what I might be getting at first, but the wellness clinic I go to was recommended by a nurse friend and her friend. I saw the results first hand. The NP I saw explained things very well and told me all my choices. When I need a refill I call the clinic and they put in my order and it's sent from a compounding pharmacy, an actual pharmacy. Everything has been very professional in my opinion.

Tirzepatide costs me $540 every 2 months if I buy 2 vials at a time. At my dose, each vial lasts one month. I can use my HSA card. Usually semaglutide is slightly cheaper but tirzepatide is supposed to generally be tolerated better and maybe more effective. I would agree with that.

Yes, my niece is a former ER nurse and now she works in a medspa doing cosmetic injections and administering weight loss drugs. SHE LOVES IT! She doesn't have to deal with sick people, no one is pooping the bed or puking & everyone is calm & happy. I think it's available everywhere because she lives in the middle of nowhere in the midwest. ETA: There is an MD on staff auditing her files that she reports to.

Yes Spas are offering it here. Even my dermatologist's office is advertising that they offer it.
You probably know that Weight Watchers bought a company last year that offers prescriptions online. The other day I got an email from Noom that they will be offering it.

I had no idea med spas were offering it. I live in Atlanta and I haven't seen anyone offering it. I must be living under a rock. I'm going to keep my eyes open. It's good to know that a NP is in the spa

My friend whose lost a lot of weight the past year with it wants to switch to a more inexpensive provider if possible. Currently, she's goes in each week for an appointment and once a month she gets a B-complex shot too.

Just something to be aware of with compounded versions of these medications. www.fda.gov/drugs/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers/medications-containing-semaglutide-marketed-type-2-diabetes-or-weight-loss#:~:text=Are%20there%20concerns%20with%20compounded,available%20to%20treat%20a%20patient. “FDA has received adverse event reports after patients used compounded semaglutide. Patients should not use a compounded drug if an approved drug is available to treat a patient. Patients and health care professionals should understand that the agency does not review compounded versions of these drugs for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Additionally, FDA has received reports that in some cases, compounders may be using salt forms of semaglutide, including semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate. The salt forms are different active ingredients than is used the approved drugs, which contain the base form of semaglutide. The agency is not aware of any basis for compounding using the salt forms that would meet the FD&C requirements for types of active ingredients that can be compounded.”

It's good to know that a NP is in the spa Really? i see it on those little cardboard signs stuck in the ground with a 1-800 number to call all over metro Atlanta (not that I would ever actually do that, and would hope other don't either!!) I started out a year ago getting semaglutide at a med spa type place north of Atlanta. I researched the pharmacy it was coming from and was comfortable it was 'legit' and all above board. Then I asked my PCP about it at a physical and turns out my insurance covers it, so I get the name brand through a regular pharmacy now. But I didn't notice a difference in effectiveness between the semaglutide and Wegovy, when I was taking that. (I've since switched to Zepbound after stalling for 4 months).

I don’t go to any spas, but I have noticed many online ads for weight loss meds. I don’t follow Trim Healthy Mama anymore really but do use some of their products. I was on the website the other day and noticed that they have glp-1 peptides now as well. Seems that every weight loss program is getting on board with adding them.
ETA that I also listened to a podcast with Sanjay Gupta and he said to be careful where you are getting the meds because there are reports of the dosages being off and other concerns.
