Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I don't really celebrate this "holiday" ... what about you? I did put a related meme on my FB page today though ... it's cute! I will be putting up my small Spring display on my hallway table today ... I didn't wash the Jeep yesterday so I might do it today ... it is DIRTY! My mum and I are going to the local pub for dinner tonight ... I'm not sure what I will have ... What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a relaxing Sunday everyone! Unless you are partying with green beer!

My brother died on St. Patrick's Day 11 years ago. My family usually tries to make the best of it and throw a party. But it's hard. And really I realized (it was the Biden interview) that my life would be much better off if I could forget the day Esther died. So I'm choosing not to focus on my brother's death either. My mom went with her new boyfriend to Chicago for the weekend. They were at the parade and stuff yesterday. So she said she didn't feel like hosting anything this year. Understandable. I'm cooking corned beef and cabbage. My corned beef is already in the crockpot. I'm just going to get some crocheting done today and I'm thick into Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I should finish today. Marina asked the other night if I have read them before and I had already gone to bed and didn't answer. But I read the first two books out loud to Esther when she was 4 or 5. She went through a very strong Harry Potter phase. She got good enough at reading to take on the next two books on her own. And we did watch the first four movies. But then her Harry Potter phase was over so that was it for us. I just started with the 100 books you should read before you die. Harry Potter is on the list. So I thought it would be fun to read all 7 of them. My crochet I need to work on is just my monthly shawl club. Before my next installment comes.

Hello from the home of the largest St Patrick’s Day parade on continental Europe! Both DH and I have Irish heritage, but don’t really ‘celebrate’ the day. I used to do something ‘Irish’ for dinner, like corned beef and cabbage or Guinness stew/pie, but I can’t get corned beef here and we didn’t think to buy what we need for the stew yesterday. Both my DSs in Australia made an effort - I think it mainly included drinking Guinness instead of their regular weekend beer and finishing the evening with a Baileys! Easy Sunday here - church, with Sunday School class, then home. DH has gone into work for a couple of hours and I am knitting. Dinner will be chicken something. When I asked DH earlier what he was planning, he wasn’t sure. My fave St Patrick’s meme

I love both of the memes today! We’re having everyone’s favorite Irish meal today…spaghetti and meatballs!! I debated making a New England boiled dinner (we prefer smoked pork shoulder over corned beef) with cabbage, carrots and potatoes but decided to have ds make sauce instead. There will be a salad and bread served as well. For dessert I made a cheesecake with a chocolate cookie crust. I have sliced strawberries to go on it. I’m also making fudge sauce to drizzle (or pour, depending on preference!) over it. And there’s a can of whipped cream if anyone wants some! We’ll stick a candle in it so the kids can sing to me 😊 Here’s a picture of karenlou and me from last night ❤️

We don't really celebrate but I am wearing a green t-shirt and a fun Irish necklace on our walk. Today I will be working in my craft room! I HAVE to get it organized to continue prepping for my crop. Dinner will be the favorite Irish meal of pork chops and baked yams. These days kids probably don't play in the sprinklers because of recycled water!

My dad's heritage is Irish. We don't celebrate St Patrick's day much here as he never did. Hope those that do celebrate have a good day. We had roast pork dinner with Yorkshire pudding. I attempted Prue Leith's Normandy tart, some jam tarts out of the left over pastry and then made flapjacks. prue-leith.com/prues-normandy-tart/Sitting down for the rest of the day now

KelleeM and karenlou , that's a lovely photo. You look like you're having so much fun. Happy early Birthday! jeremysgirl , Honoring your wishes, but thinking of your brother and Esther, I want to tell you that the Harry Potter series is my favorite book series. I have a whole display of Harry potter things that people have brought me from Harry Potter World at Universal. I even have a sorting hat. The books are so much fun and children began to read. Have fun. We don't celebrate, but my mother always made corned beef. Since dh doesn't eat beef he's making a pizza. That's only several countries away from Ireland. I'm going to spend the day cooking a couple meals and baking cookie dough for dh. While I'm gone he'll have some meals and he can bake 3 cookies at a time when he wants a sweet snack. Tonight we're going to watch Wonka. It'll be a a busy, but nice Sunday. Cute memes today. cadoodlebug , you're referring to our barbaric childhoods where we had to, GULP, go outside and play, cause we didn't have video games. The horror! Then again, we rode dinosaurs to school. Happy St. Patricks Day!

St. Patrick’s Day is always hard for our family even though my mom is Irish. My 30 month old niece died 36 years ago on 3/16.
No idea what’s for dinner. My mom isn’t feeling well with indigestion and 💩. Not sure what she ate but she’s feeling yucky. I might order Panera

Well, my morning started out a bit scary. My mom hadn't answered texts and I happened to see on my app that she was having low blood sugar (she's diabetic) so I called and she didn't answer so I called again and she told me the fire department was there. I quickly ran to their place and there were two big trucks and about 8 firefighters in her apartment! She was eating cake and drinking juice and the numbers had started to go up. She gets very confused when she's low but I'm glad my dad thought to call the fire department. They've had to call them a few times and they are there within about 5 minutes. Scary.
Tonight will be Honeybaked Ham and scalloped potatoes and a salad. I picked it up yesterday but we had leftovers from our meal on Friday so that's what we had last night.
Hope you all have a great day!

christine58, ((((HUGS)))). littlemama, this is such a stressful time for your family. ((((HUGS)))). Tearisci, thank goodness the fire department responded so well. Does your mom keep hard candy and orange juice on hand? Does she have a glucagon shot for emergencies? These are things that I was made to do when I have severe hypoglycemia due to another temporary issue.

These are things that I was made to do when I have severe hypoglycemia due to another temporary issue. She does but she's not the best at monitoring where she's at so I have the app on my phone so I can call her when she's really high or low. I didn't see how low she had gotten but I think they just panicked and called the FD. She's back to normal now and coming over for dinner tonight. My sister and I live about 2 miles from them so it's easier to take care of them.

We'll have corned beef, potatoes, and carrots for dinner. And yes, we're all wearing green

Does she have a glucagon shot for emergencies? These are things that I was made to do when I have severe hypoglycemia due to another temporary issue. The problem we had with my mum was that she would either not recognise that she had gone Hypo, or she would, but would argue with us that she wasn't allowed to eat candy/drink juice. Even showing her how low her levels were didn't help - the only thing that stuck in her head was NO CANDY OR JUICE!

I love all of today's memes LOL. Happy St. Patrick's Day to those who celebrate. Years ago, a co-worker of mine who was full Irish would always reply to those who asked if she was going out to a pub to celebrate St. Patrick's Day: "No, I don't drink on amateur night!". Well, ahem, cough cough -- tonight we're actually making the chicken curry empanadas that we were supposed to make yesterday. (It got too late and my eating schedule was off kilter yesterday because I slept in quite late, which is unusual for me - guess I really needed it.)

Sending hugs to everyone! We had corned beef, swiss, and sauerkraut sandwiches on rye bread and some haluski. Neither of really celebrate our heritage, but I'll never pass on an opportunity to have haluski (cabbage and noodles, for those wondering what I'm referring to - www.allrecipes.com/recipe/220716/haluski-cabbage-and-noodles/). It's also tasty as a side dish with pierogi or steak.

Happy Sunday!
It's another work day for me. I have a lot to catch up on. The funeral for my employee was Friday. It was a beautiful service. I knew she was a very caring person but I was just made more aware of the type of person she was at her viewing and funeral.
It has turned cold here after a beautiful week. We had severe storms Thursday but it has been mostly warm and sunny. Today it is 40 and windy. Ugh...
DH and I went out to dinner with some friends last night. We went to a steak house that has been around forever. I remember going to it for dinner before my junior prom. DH ordered a medium well steak. I wasn't paying much attention as I was talking and he was sitting across the table from me. I looked over and he had eaten about half of it and it was almost raw. He didn't want to make a big deal out of it so he wouldn't say anything. The waitress didn't come by to see how everything was until we were finished. She looked at his steak and said that's not right. She made sure she wrote down that it was to be a medium well steak and then got the manager. They comped his steak but it was a disappointing meal.
Hugs to those of you that need them!
Dinner is going to be beef tips.

yesterday, we did not go out.. and I was feeling lazy so we ordered out a pizza and a salad.
today, we went out-- I took 4 quick runs on top (40 mins include chair lift rides) and then skied with dh on the lowest run.. which was quite good. 2 hours and I was done. my brother is coming over for dinner so we are having spaghetti and bison meatballs, salad and I am making more blueberry crisp. then i need to vacuum and tidy up some. my brother doesn't really care.
at the end of the ski day.. dh went to the bar and had a shot of jameson's whiskey--in honor of just getting his irish passport. we never celebrated st patricks day.. his family came from northern ireland south of belfast.. and his grandpa was always bitter about the conflicts there. the family with 6 sons left ireland in 1913. my own family celebrated st david's day (patron saint of the welsh).

DH and I took a little road trip today. We didn’t have a destination but we just drove. It was a gorgeous sunny day when we left and as we got about 45 mins north of us, it was a blizzard. Thankfully it didn’t last long or stay on the ground. We ended up by the water so we took a little walk but it was very cold. We stopped for lunch and I had a chicken, Brie, spinach and pecan flatbread. Delicious!
The kids are home from Florida and want to go back since it’s so cold here!
Supper will be grilled pork chops, grilled sliced potatoes and grilled asparagus.

Happy Sunday! We have never celebrated St Patrick's Day so it's just another day for us. As kids we'd try to remember to wear green so no one would pinch us, but that's about it. Last night the crawfish was so good! However, DD didn't come over and I had 3 lbs left so I decided to peel them to put in the freezer. Even though I usually eat a 3 lb bucket, I'd never peeled all of them at once. That was eye opening! From 3 lbs I got a total of 6.75 ounces meat. Shocking to see how little I ended up with - and to realize how full I am after eating that amount. One thing for sure, I will never ever complain about paying $18 for 12 ounces of crawfish tails (frozen) at the grocery store. It was a lot of work! Dinner tonight will be the shrimp/veggies I've been marinating since yesterday. Will also pop the pork tenderloin in the oven, along with some Okinawa sweet potatoes for DH. That will make a couple of meals this week as well.

There was an article in the NYT today about parents having so much anxiety kids don't even get to have sleepovers anymore. I find that sad. That is incredibly sad. Most of today's kids are locked into their phones and tablets and don't have the freedom and imaginations that previous generations had.

I'd never peeled all of them at once. That was eye opening! We went to a crawfish boil about 10 years ago in our former town. It was blazing hot so many people didn't show up. The business that was putting on the boil knew how much I love crawfish (I can easily eat over 5 lbs.) so he asked if I wanted a cooler full to take home. It was one of those industrial-size white coolers. We loaded up my car and DH & DS carried it to our backyard where I sat for many hours peeling crawfish. I froze batches and we enjoyed corn and crawfish chowder that winter.

jeremysgirl I much prefer remembering on birthdays instead. ((HUGS) to you though. Enjoy the HP books! We loved them. KelleeM and karenlou great picture! cadoodlebug and scrapmaven we used to lead cub scouts and at a summer camp we had one den who at free time would just sit with their phones. I told them to go play instead. "We don't play" I found it sad! littlemama I'm so sorry, it is hard. ((HUGS)) We lost one last week and another is in hospice. Tearisci glad she got the care she needed. Doesn't the app have alerts she would see? Well now my dh wants corned beef so we may takeout a reuben.

jeremysgirl I told them to go play instead. "We don't play" I found it sad! DS grew up right before every kid had a cell phone (I think he got his first one when he started driving for safety reasons.) Anyway, I was one of his cub scout leaders and all they wanted to do was play! I tried to get them to do pack stuff but the other leader said just let them play. THAT was sad because DS got bored and didn't want to go further with scouts and preferred sports.
