I have a planned shrine to St Gertrude in my backyard here in MX! There is a niche where I feed street cats where it will be.

I have a planned shrine to St Gertrude in my backyard here in MX! There is a niche where I feed street cats where it will be. I am so happy to read that you plan to feed street cats. There was a very rural community near my sister’s house that we were visiting for breakfast early one morning. When parking, I saw a woman opening multiple cans of cat food and placing them in the bushes. There were at least a dozen cats weaving around her ankles. I commented on the number of cats and she said she just cannot let them go hungry, so she started bringing food. She said her husband agreed to finance her catching them and having them neutered so that they would stop multiplying. I was so touched by her efforts that I gave her the cash in my wallet to help feed the cats. My sister, not a cat person at all, rolled her eyes as I caught up to them in the restaurant. It makes my heart happy to see that you are another cat lover that cares for these strays. In the community I just moved into, we are not allowed to let our cats go outside. I didn’t plan to as I prefer mine to be house cats, but I was happy to see the community mandating that all cat owners were to keep them inside. Then my very first day here, I saw three different cats making their way along the fence in my backyard. I also noticed two of the homes had pet doors that would allow their cats to come and go as they pleased. So much for the community rules. Then after I finally got all of my outdoor cameras installed, I started getting video alerts of these cats walking past my cameras. It didn’t bother me until that first snow. I guess I am a softie, but how can you let your cats outside, at night, when it is snowing outside? I then wondered if perhaps at least a few might be strays. The first night after my video alerted me to the cat on the night it was snowing, I put a handful of cat treats on my back porch. They were gone by morning. I have done this a couple of times, just to feel better about the possible strays. The camera lets me know that it is indeed cats eating the treats and that I am not attracting mice, rats, or possums or something.
