I can never ever buy bedding that fits my bed. No matter what. I have a king bed. And I don't think once in my life I have ever had anything fit it the way I want it to. 99% of the time my comforter/quilt, whatever you call it, is never wide enough. By the time I make my bed, the side that is 'seen' from the door I have pulled over so it looks nice. Walk to the other side of the bed and it is barely over the mattress. My newest one I have is way long and while that doesn't bother me (I can pull it up and turn it down), it is still not wide enough.
Maybe because I don't spend a ton of money on bedding. With having dogs, especially the one I have right now (St. Bernard), I am not spending a ton of money when I have dogs all over the bed.
That is my 1st world complaint this morning.
I really do love the look of my new bedding though.. from Target (and on clearance to boot).. it's like a quilt, old fashion white/blue stripes (I think they call if ticking or ticking material???) I really love it except not wide enough.

That's why when I moved, I downsized to a queen bed so all of my king size stuff would actually fit. Sheets I can buy in a queen and no problems, anything else and I have to buy king so it looks right and gives me the coverage I want.
It's so frustrating!!

I know there is a California King style, which isn't always available, but I read that it's longer not really wider in size. Sheets aren't a problem fitting. If they can make sheets fit, why not the rest of it? blah. If I didn't have DH I would definitely change to a Queen sized bed.

Scoot down a bit so I can join you on this bench! I've been complaining about this for several years. We have always had a king sized bed (almost 47 years) and until the past 10 years I never had sizing issues with sheets, blankets or bedspreads/duvets. Now nothing is not wide enough so I have the same issue as you. By the time I cover the mattress on the 'door' side the other side is too short. A few years ago we switched to a split king (two XL twins) that is only 13" deep (Tempurpedic) and now it seems all the XL twin sheets are made for 18" deep mattresses! So I end up tucking in like crazy every single morning because there is so much extra fabric. By morning you feel like you are swimming in a sea of cotton fabric. And a hint to the designers that think putting the elastic band around the entire sheet will magically make it fit - that doesn't help a bit. Too much fabric is too much fabric. Maybe because I don't spend a ton of money on bedding. Has absolutely nothing to do with what you are spending. I do spend more money on bedding and they still aren't sized right. I'm not sure how the entire industry could have gotten this so messed up. While we are at it, why on earth have they shrunk the sizes of hand towels so much? They used to be long/wide enough that I could use one to wrap my wet hair easily. You can barely dry your hands on some of them.

sheets are made for 18" deep mattresses! Could it be that the comforters are made for the thinner mattresses, and they haven't accounted for the thicker mattresses that dominate the market? I will say that 25 years ago, my mother sent me to college with a queen size comforter for my twin XL dorm bed. Since my bed was on risers, the comforter came in handy! 🤣

This bed scrunchie is ridiculous and also works great. amzn.to/3x5tAxq Totally recommend if your fitted sheet doesn’t fit properly.

I looked at those but that is more work (lifting the mattresses) than I am able, or even willing, to do. Could it be that the comforters are made for the thinner mattresses, and they haven't accounted for the thicker mattresses that dominate the market? I thought that during the years we had a thick mattress. Then we switched to a thinner mattress and bought new comforters and bedspreads. Nope, still too narrow.

You just kind of pull it around the mattress and slide it in between it and the box spring or frame. It took me a minute to figure it out, but it's quite easy.

FYI California Kings are actually narrower and longer than a standard King. It works out well for us as I buy a standard King duvet/comforter and the extra width helps. We have a sleigh bed so the fact that it's too short for the CA King doesn't matter to us.

Then when you see a picture of it, it always looks perfect... or watching a stupid home interior type show or video.. everything is always just perfect. stupid I swear they pull the top quilt/comforter over to the sides you see, to make it look like it drapes that far down. DH & I sleep in a double bed. I hate big beds. But I actually have a king size quilt on my double bed, so that it hangs way down and I can fold it neatly over my double sets of pillows. I have an antique sleigh bed. I have a box spring, mattress, and a 4" topper -so it is HIGH! But the king spread will drape down far enough that it covers the bottom of the area where the box spring sets. I use a king size blanket too, so that it hangs down the sides long enough to accommodate two adults under it. I love it. I rescued that bed from someone's burn pile. GASP. I knew them and stopped to ask if they were going to burn it. Yep. I have them $100, which they took reluctantly. I used denatured alcohol to remove all the stickers their kids had on it and that also refinished the shellac finish. DH re-did the side rails, which were split pretty bad. Oh my god it is a beautiful bed! It was the second sleigh bed I rescued from becoming ashes. My daughter has the other one at her house as a guest bed.

I buy standard pillow cases, queen fitted sheets, king flat sheets and king blankets/comforter.
Gives me the length I like for both the flat sheet and blanket/comforter.

I finally found sheets that stay on my mattress at Costco. I didn't buy my current comforter (DH did) or I would have gotten a size up so when DH rolls over, my butt is still under the blanket...

When I was looking for duvet covers for my kids a lot of them were polyester. We have a cal king bed and would really like a new duvet cover. The current one we have doesn't fit the duvet very well and there's just a lot of extra space with no fluff. When I did a general search it was really hard to find California King options. To make it even harder, I'm looking for something in a gray toned lavender which is not trendy right now apparently.

All of my King stuff fits, but the fitted sheet is too big, so it’s a little saggy on the sides. My goal is just to have a fitted sheet that doesn’t pop off the corners.

When I was looking for duvet covers for my kids a lot of them were polyester. We have a cow king bed and would really like a new duvet cover. To make it even harder, I'm looking for something in a gray toned lavender which is not trendy right now apparently. If you are looking for cotton, then check out The Company Store. Great quality and I find the King size duvet to be generously sized (bought a new one this winter). They have both down and down alternative. We have been ordering pillows and duvets/comforters (inserts) from them for over 30 years and their products hold up.

I have a king, and have the right fitting sheets. My mattress has a topper and is quite thick. It sits on a platform instead of box springs. I have a spread on it that is really thin and fits just right on it. Maybe platform beds just fit the spreads differently?

We’ve always had that problem too. I usually get very generic looking solid colored comforters and just put it on the bed sideways so it hangs down further on the sides which is critical when one of your bed buddies is an 80# Labrador.

We have queen beds in our house so all the sheets are queens and they fit well, except my complaint is that they do have a certain way they have to go on... I thought a queen was square but apparently not. But, I buy only king blankets and quilts for exactly the reason you said. They hang properly ("properly" as defined by me, lol) and there's enough of them that my dh doesn't steal too much of it and leave me cold. haha

My buddy is a 150 pound St. Bernard.. who slobbers a lot. lol When I bought this quilt, I bought a cheap blanket that coordinates with the bedding to protect the quilt. Now of course he thinks that blanket is his and tries to wad it up and stick in his mouth to suck on.

Back toward the end of my Jack Russell’s life we resorted to putting a big piece of PUL (polyurethane lined fabric) over the top of all the bedding. Once he got old he started having more accidents and couldn’t see well enough to jump off the bed. It worked great for protecting the bed, but it was definitely hotter to sleep under. 🥵 The longer I think about this question, the more I think that back in the day more people used a larger bed spread over the top of whatever quilts or blankets, etc. they had on their bed. A bed spread would hang down farther and cover more of the box spring or bed frame, whatever you’ve got supporting the mattress. These days a lot of people just have a comforter as the top layer on the bed and they just don’t cover as much of the bed.

A real bedspread just solves all the problems.
