Disclaimer (this is not my first rodeo with peas ): I *know* this group likes celebrations like this at work. We have an all company in-person meeting each month. It's always at 8 AM and I always bring in breakfast for everyone. In addition to the business side of things, we acknowledge birthdays and work anniversaries at the meetings. Usually it's just a card, a small (personal) gift, and for work anniversaries, a few people sharing comments/stories about the person's history with the company. But this month, we have someone who has his 20 year work anniversary AND his birthday on the same day. We have not had any other milestone anniversaries since I've been here, but we have two 25 year anniversaries coming up soon. I would like to do something a little more for these kinds of milestone anniversaries. They will get a small tangible gift as well as a financial "bonus." But I'm a little stuck what to do at the meetings for them. Important note: we've got a few people - including the 20 year anniversary person - who have type 2 diabetes, so something like a cake or fancy pastries doesn't seem right. Ideas???

I would do something like an engraved pen or something tangible like that. No food or flowers.

We have monthly meetings where we celebrate milestones and new hires etc. For the significant ones we do a slide celebrating them and sometimes have a manager speak about them.

We're good on gifts (He's getting a nice new grill from the company - he's been saving up for one for a while and just asked me to order it to arrive next month, which I did. But surprise, he's not paying for it.) Where I'm stuck is what to do at the meetings that's more than what we do for the non-milestone anniversaries.

Quick slide show - pictures?
Quick video combining recorded congrats from coworkers into a little presentation
Catered breakfast or crepes, or something a little out of the box.
Good luck with suggestions. It is a difficult one.

Have a manager give a small speech about him, acknowledging his contribution and commitment to the company, his work ethic, his being a team player, etc....then present him with bonus envelope or the grill that you said he wants.
Being acknowledged for a job well done in front of one colleagues, is the best way to let a staff member know they are valued.

For awards or big milestones my DH's office would contact the SO/partner and ask them if they'd like to attend. They would either be sneaked in (easy to hide someone at the back in a big group), or they would get the awardee to bring them with a ruse. The person being honored was always thrilled that their SO was there to be a part of it.
