my DD and I are supposed to go to Copenhagen this summer (she is studying abroad, and I am tagging along for a week before she goes) and I saw that the Stock Exchange bldg is on fire. It makes me so sad to see the spire up in flames, gives me memories of Notre Dame... www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68824189

This is so sad. I was able to see it in the 80s. What a tremendous loss.

We'll be in Copenhagen next month so this really made me sad. I sent my DD the article and she was sad too. She said that she's trying to tell herself it would have been surrounded by scaffolding and she wouldn't have really seen it, but she loves old buildings like that... I told her we are going to see many wonderful things, but I grieve for the city who lost that bldg...

I was in Copenhagen a few years ago and that spire/building was both really distinctive and right there in the middle of the city. That is incredibly depressing.

I hope your daughter has a great semester abroad! My daughter tried to make Copenhagen work, but just couldn't get enough credits for her two majors - several of her friends went and had a wonderful experience!

I wish it was a whole semester, but she couldn't make it work with credits either (she is getting dual degrees in Chinese and International Relations), so she is doing a 3 week program for her Global Terroism Studies minor. One week in Copenhagen, one in Munich, and then one week back in Copenhagen. I'm excited for her!

I've been jealous of friend's who could make it work for their majors, but neither of mine could fit it in and graduate on time.

LOL mine too. Her roommate is currently in Rome and she would have loved to do that. Her majors are International RElations and Chinese, so they are always trying to get her to go to Taiwan and she is always like, hell no. LOL.

I was just there and it is a wonderful country and I don't speak Mandarin although I understand a little.

That is sad. My sister and I will be in Copenhagen in July. We are half Danish but never been. We are staying an 8 minute walk away from the Stock Exchange building, on the Havnepromenade. I am interested in seeing the places my grandfather's family lived. My grandmother was from the Danish island of Bornholm, so we are going there for a few days as well. The farm has been in our direct family since 1711 when it was bought from an uncle ancestor. We are in Iceland for 2 weeks first. We are very excited for our trip.

She currently has a govt job and a security clearance, and has been told that going to Taiwan could jeapordize them. While it would make a ton of sense for her to go there to study, with relations with China it is just too risky.

I love to read how many of you there already have visited my city or plan to do in the future. 🥰
We are very sad to loose this iconic building, they have saved 40% and plan to rebuild it as soon as possibly, but it is a proces that will take minimum 5 years.
A lot of the art were savede by civilian in the area, people working in the building, and 90 soldiers (they normally take care of the security of the royal family)
Luckily we still have a lot of Old charming buildings in the inner city, so there will be a lot to visit
