I was walking into the grocery store. A family was walking in front of me. Mom, dad, little girl and boy about 10/12. As they walked in, dad is teasing son and pulls the son's hoodie onto his head and said " Do the Treyvon Martin".
They were black. I am not but I was pretty shocked. It seemed so disrespectful of Treyvon Martin's death.
I don't care if you are purple that remark made me sad.

Ignore them. Perhaps looking for attention. Obviously do not have good manners.

I would have rolled my eyes and moved on.

I think that sometimes people joke about things that make them anxious or are too awful to think about. Gallows humor and all.
I work in the medical field and the things we joke about among ourselves would make anyone think we're extremely insensitive. In most cases, it's just a way to cope with seeing or hearing things that are so disturbing that we can't process them.

The "Treyvon Martin" is, essentially, wearing a hoodie while carrying Skittles. For a white person, which in think you might be, this wouldn't need a name. For a young, black man growing up in this climate? It's totally different. His father is telling him, perhaps through gallows humour, about the kind of world we live in. And if this boy is 10-12, he is probably already acutely aware.
I don't see this as this father making fun of Treyvon or disrespecting his memory. ( unless there was innuendo that I 'very missed?)

If you don't like it, just ignore it and move on, which it sounds like the op did.

I wouldn't even acknowledge I heard it. I don't know in what spirit it was intended. Was it aimed at you? Was it a private joke between them? Does dad just think he's an entertainer? Did he mean to make you feel uncomfortable? None of that is territory I want to get into. I'd keep moving, doing my own thing. No time for that.
