For those of you who are youngsters en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POW_braceletI had one briefly in 1972. The man I was dating wanted one, so he took mine. If you had one, you were supposed to wear it until the person came home, or the body was found. I saw an interview with Lee Greenwood tonight. Lee is wearing one that he has had since 1980, so his person's body is still missing.

I had one. I just came across it and contacted the person. I really had no use for it so I sent it to him so that at least he or someone in his family could have it. He was very appreciative. We have emailed back and forth several times.

I had an MIA bracelet. It was a girl I went to school with father. He never came home. I don't know what happened to my bracelet.

My dad had a couple when I was a teen. I would wear one on Cera in days.
I had an operation desert storm and shield one. I think they were both yellow.

I would have liked to have had one, but my mother didn't think they were "proper" or something like that....Don't remember exactly at this time....

Yes, mine survived and I mailed it to an address that forwarded the bracelets to the individuals.

Very interesting. I had never heard of these. Seems like a mix on some came home, some never did. Very sad for those who never came home.

I had one, he came home, and retired a Brigadier General. He was a POW from 1967 to 1973.
Interesting fact: Norman Carl Gaddis (born September 30, 1923), along with John McCain, were the two senior United States prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. General Gaddis opted out of a political life to spend time with his family in North Carolina after retiring from the US Air Force.

I still have mine in my jewelry box. Maj. David Duart. He spent six years (I think six) in captivity and then came home during Operation Homecoming in 1973. I remember watching on the news and actually hearing his name read as he came off the plane.

I've never heard of these. Were these family members or loved ones you wore them for, or did people just buy them pre-made with a POW/MIA's info already etched on them?

I still have mine too...it's in the 'memory box' in the closet. I will have to dig it out some day.
I know my guy came home and we had to write letters to our POW's in school but I don't ever remember getting a letter back.

I had one too. Charles Shelton from Louisiana. He never came home. My Dad served with Charles Plumb. He came home when I was about 11 or 12 and attended our annual reunion of all the guys my Dad flew with in Vietnam. That was the only year he attended but it made quite an impression on me. He wrote the book "I'm no Hero" and is now a motivational speaker.

My POW is Albro Lundy Jr, Date of Loss 12-24-70, shot down over Laos, KIA body not recovered.

I remember them, but I didn't have one. My father was a Navy photo recon pilot who had friends who'd been shot down. He was actually listening to his best bud (and father of my best friend at the time) when his plane was shot down and then when he was on the ground surrounded by Vietcong. Because we already had specific people tombs thinking of, and perhaps because of my dad's trauma with the loss of his friends, Dad didn't want us to get a bracelet.
His friends did make it back years later.

As I recall my Dad bought them pre-made. We came home from Japan in 1969 (I think). My Dad would speak in the local schools and various clubs and hand them out. I still have mine. I chose mine because of the last name -- it was the same as my Grandma's maiden name. The premise was you would wear it until they came home and then you would send it to them. Mine never came home and is still listed as MIA.

I was wondering the same thing. There was a place inside the Base Exchange where you could order them with the name of your loved one or friend that was MIA/POW. I always wanted one but Mom had one made for her that she wore. They were Mom and Dad's friends that were MIA/POWs. Dad had several friends that were shot down beside him as he flew missions during Vietnam. I am blessed my dad came home but so sad for those that didn't have their daddies return.

Some organization made them. I don't remember how I got mine, but I know I did not pay for it. My sister wore the name/bracelet of the husband of a college friend. He did eventually make it home.
I never heard this until Lee Greenwood said it, but the design was supposed to remind one of the shackles the POW had to wear. Lee also said, if your person came home, you were supposed to cut it in half (releasing the shackle symbolically) and mail it back to the person.

I had one I wore in during Viet Nam. my guy came home. I saw him on Phil Donahue show one day. He was talking about how many soldiers were lost & how we could help all of the missing. I do not remember how many years it was that I saw him. He is a high rank. He is on these sites that is for people to help the people buy buying bracelets & helping soldiers now. I think his name was Eugene Mc Danial ( if I remember right)

I still have one also - does anyone have a link to where to send them? Where they forward them to the person or the family?
