My mall was shut down on Friday night after a massive brawl, organized on social media. Apparently this happened at three other malls this weekend (maybe more? I've only read about three.) Someone or something has to be behind it, it's really unlikely there was sudden and spontaneous mall fighting like this all over the country. The mall where it happened by me is not the ritziest mall in the Pittsburgh area but it's nice enough and not the sort of place that fights routinely break out, esp. in recent years. It's also the mall where Night of the Living Dead was filmed.

I was wondering the same thing. They have to be linked IMO. My mom is familiar with your mall and was surprised to hear about the fighting too. I hope it settles down since having that many trouble makers at once somewhere like a mall can be dangerous. I think they were smart to shut it down for awhile.

The mall just a few miles from our house had a brawl too. My first thought was that they were all organized.

I don't know what is going on in the malls with all the brawls but after a bunch of kids started a fight in our local mall a few years back the mall instituted a rule that requires everyone under the age of 18 to be with an adult after a certain time. Also kids cannot be in groups of more than 4 during all other hours. They make them leave the mall if they abuse the rules.

More ridiculous antics by ignorant people. I was at Walmart (I know, I know...) and two adults waiting in the customer service line started having (what my Middle School students call) Crack Wars where they go back and forth cracking on each other. It's bad enough when Middle Schoolers try and do it, but to see two ADULTS go back and forth. Ugh!!

Crazy What kind of person 'organizes' such a thing? And Why do people participate? I mean if they are all connected and instigated then the participants really have no beef with each other they are just fighting/brawling to cause a disturbance? WTH? Who does that?

I am truly sick of the idiots of the world that participate in this crap, teens and adults.

There were reports of organized groups who see it their duty to create mob scenes that overwhelm the police and law enforcement services to prove some sort of point. It is a spin off of the Ferguson mess.

I was just reading about this on an online news source here in Australia. A mall in Pennyslvania, Monroeville Mall near Pittsburgh and it said about 1000 people, mainly girls were involved in brawls all over the mall. It also said that hundreds had started gathering about 5pm so definitely a social media link. Some shops shut their gates, giving customers the option to stay inside or go. However, the article says only TWO girls were arrested and doesn't really give any information on why or how it all started. Very strange to hear it was happening at several malls.
